Geo: -33.8671, 151.207We walked from the hotel through Tumbalong Park to Darling Harbour the kids loved the Darling Harbour Children's Playground but we had our first whale watching trip booked so we promised we'd stop on the way back so they'd have some playtime for themselves. Darling Harbour was the first pick up point for our trip and as we were there early we had the choice of position on board so opted for the best seats right up front, breezy but worth it for the views. At Circular Quay we picked up another 30 or so passengers which meant that overall there was plenty of room to move about and see the sights without blocking everyone else's view which was important for us because this is what we'd all come for to see, whales in ... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.207We'd decided to take the scenic route to Sydney via the Blue Mountains rather than the quicker direct route unfortunately the mountains weren't at their best being shrouded in mist most of the time. By the time we arrived at the Three Sisters which is a rock formation in the Blue Mountains they were nowhere to be seen like the mountains they were shrouded in mist, we tried to explain to the kids why we had brought them here when all of a sudden the mist started to clear and we were rewarded with fantastic views of the Three Sisters and Blue mountains. We pointed out to the kids and Michelle the cable car that's strung out across the valley which has a glass floor and stops mid-point across the valley so you can ... read more

It’s always exciting for us whenever we get a little break to travel into Australia to see his family and do a little bit of sightseeing. Although I had been into the country before with my husband I never really had a chance to take it in quite like I’d like to before so thankfully this vacation we had planned a Sydney to Brisbane road trip. This was a major bucket list item and I was ready to mark it off while taking in the coastal scenic route and enjoying an authentic Australian experience. We ventured out onto the legendary Pacific Coast highways and began our journey. Our first stop on the journey was at Lake Macquarie. We had not driven far at this point but we desperately needed something to eat, my husband had ... read more

St... read more

Its time to say goodbye to Koalas, Kangaroos and meat pies (Dillon will be sad...) and hello to adventure, excitement, no work (yay), uncomfortable beds, fermented horse milk and grumpy Russians amongst many other things. Dillon was quite sick last week but luckily he is now back to normal and ready to go and head back into summer. From today onwards we will follow the warm weather and the next time we have to deal with cold weather will be in May, June next year. We are currently at the airport with our 40+kg worth of luggage and ready to board our flight to Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia via Kulala Lumpur and Beijing including a nerve wrecking 8 hour stopover at Beijing airport... starting at 1am... with a 4 year old. What could go wrong.... In Beijing ... read more

Four weeks ago I put in my resignation and officially sealed the deal on an open-ended backpacking trip in Europe. While travel is an exciting time, there is (as I've found out) many things that can and will go pear shaped even leading up to a trip. As I write this I have my ankle elevated and am following the 'RICER' method, after a freak tennis ball in dark garage incident. This is 3 days before I leave for Kathmandu to do a 10 day tour which includes 4-5 days mainly consisting of hours trekking. Clearly, I'm worried this may alter the first part of the trip, fingers crossed it isn't as bad as first thought. This is only the tip of the iceberg, the first issue arose only a few days after my resignation. It ... read more

Moving Countries... Going on holiday is one thing - packing your bags, having an adventure and returning home to the people you love and the life that you know. Going travelling is another - perhaps quitting your job and packing your life into a backpack for a wonderful adrenaline-fuelled trip around the world, before winding up back with those home comforts again. Moving countries is little different. There is a bigger gamble, a bigger uncertainty and a bigger risk. That said, there could also be a bigger gain! Moving countries - Yes you still have to pack your life into a bag, but this time you can’t leave any of it behind for safekeeping. Yes you have to quit your job, but then you have to find another one, in another country. Ultimately, you don’t know ... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.207On touching down in Sydney we walk a short distance to our connecting flight and decide to recharge our electronic devices. Guess what Deb has left the charger in the socket at home (whoops). I buy a new one at the airport store and we get some juice into the ipad while we have a morning beer at the James Squire bar.On boarding for Ayers Rock the plane is half empty so we stretch out and relax. Deb watches a couple of in flight movies on her ipad, while I sit my iphone on Deb's shoe to watch my own selection. The food on board is sparse but the beer is cold as we settle into our three hour twenty minute flight.... read more

SYDNEY 1st March - 9th March Arriving early morning into Circular Quay, always a special sight, the sun over the Opera House and the first view of the Harbour Bridge. Disembarkation was easy, however waiting for the transfer was not. No transport waiting for us, bookings all messed up and eventually tracked down the company responsible. It was only about 800 yards to the Mantra where we were staying so no big deal but it was hot waiting and seeing everybody else disappearing was a bit traumatic. This is our fifth visit, so what to do. The answer is loads, from museums to beaches to gardens. The apartment was ready early so off shopping only for essentials. Who do we bump into in George Street but friends we have made on Arcadia, Hilary and Phil. They ... read more
