After the long walk yesterday we were very tired, so slept in most of the morning. By lunch time we fancied a little walk, so from Paul's we walked to Coogie beach to explore our local area. The beach was exactly what we had come to expect of the east coast, lovely golden soft sand, the sun shining- so Dan couldnt help but jump straight in. As well as the beach, there was a small enclosed area to one end made of concrete that was like a 'safe' area to swim is maybe the surf was too strong or there were sharks in the area- it does happen a lot! The Ocean Pool was also a good spot for Dan to hunt in the rocks for crabs! We headed back later in the afternoon as Paul ... read more

hey everybody... well it has been a crazy week...tuesday we got to the airport and actually ended up on an earlyer flight out of seattle, we were all searched at security (they say it was because we had one way tickets) but oh well it didn't take long and we pretty much just walked onto the plane; we didn't wait at all. The flight to san fran was really turbulent somewhat like a roller coaster. The next flight wasn't as turbulant but it was sooo long, i figured i would be able to sleep for at least 8 hours on the plane...but no such luck, i slept like 2 hours. We finally got to sydney and it was raining and we were all soo tired; we cought a free backpackers shuttle bus to the hostel we ... read more

yes, i know i have done a terrible job of keeping you all up-to-date via the blog...happily the guilt has finally become too overwhelming to bear. excuses are lame, but there tends to be so much i want to tell that the task of writing it all out seems very daunting, particularly now that i've waited until 6 weeks into the trip to begin. but i know that if i don't just sit down and write something then it will never happen, so i'm going to be disciplined and do my best to fill you in thoroughly. to start, japan was fantastic, although it feels like it was ages ago. through tom, who has built a really wonderful community for himself in his little town, i was able to get a very genuine and authentic japan ... read more

Today we returned from the Blue Mountains into Sydney. We have a new base for the next few days - in Edgecliff - the next village of Sydney! It is still close to the City Centre - but a much nicer area than King's Cross! In fact the view from the hotel room is out across the East of the Harbour - over an area called Double Bay - known to the locals as Double Pay due to the plethora of multi million dollar apartments and homes. After our train back into the city and some lunch, we relaxed a bit at the hotel before doing a few chores. Afterwards we gave my relative Paul a call and arranged to get together again for Dinner, and a chance for me to meet more of my relatives ... read more

I arrived in Sydney in the early afternoon on 20th December where the city looked huge! Skyscrapers everywhere. The city looked brilliant. Later that evening I met up with Andy my Canadian friend I had organised to meet up with again. We went for a drink at this bar called 'The Side Bar' which was a totally different night scene to anywhere in New Zealand, full of people all having a good time it was great! The next day I went to explore the city and visit the sites. I went to the botanic gardens, the harbour bridge and the Opera house which I thought was the best piece of architecture Id ever seen it looked amazing! In the evening I went and checked out some of the other clubs elsewhere to get a broad outlook ... read more

Thankfully the weather finally sorted itself out and we managed the obligatory English ex pat christmas down under. Christmas eve was spent wandering around the city centre, which was a bit on the quiet side with almost nothing happening bar a group of keen carol singers , singing their hearts out to a crowd of fifty. But its pretty nice to see the harbour lit up. Still not feeling very festive though. The big day was much better, we met up with three friends we met in the south pacific (Paul, Brendan and Vikky) and their friend Ang. They are renting an apartment near the beach so we hit their house and had a few wines and a slap up meal. Then we went to Coogee beach, fortunately the sun was out and the wind had ... read more

Hey everyone, Hope you are all well, i've had a very busy week so i'll try and pic up where i left off!!! The place I arrived is called Coogee Beach and its about 10 mins from Sydney City Centre and has quite possibly the best view going (for a hostel anyway - see pictures!!). Monday 11th Dec - The rest of my group arrived at about midday and we went into Sydney to the botanical gardens where there is an amazing view of Sydney Harbour then we walked down to the harbour and took a jet trip around the harbour which was great fun. Mitch (one of the ozinto guys) then took us on a tour of the city to get our bearings then we went back to the hostel and sampled some of the ... read more

Hi everyone, Well I got back to bangkok airport with slighty less hassle than on the way (although the Thai driver singing Delta Goodrem was a little alarming!!!!). Could've done with another day there really but never mind!! Arrived in Sydney this morning to beautiful blue skies!!! My hostel is literally across the road from the beach where I spent a couple of hours this afternoon and i'm already feeling the burn!!! Unfortunatly I cant get the USB hub on this computer so I will be going to an internet cafe up the road later this week to put some photos on for you. I have been put in the same room as all the people just finishing last weeks ozintro and they all seem to of had a good time (and are very brown!!!) I ... read more

My god have I arrived!! What an experience so far. I got in on Saturday night after a really long flight. Couldn't sleep on the plane as I was wedged in between two large blokes - Quantas don't have great leg room. However, you know me, I didn't want to go to bed and as soon as I arrived in the hostel I went and got some booze and joined the other girls in my dorm for a few. Later on I went out to the local boozer - Coogee Bay Hotel (cbh). So I arrived at 9pm and didn't get home until 3am! Don't do things by half me!! Firstly, I have to tell you its absolutely scorching and its only spring here - Summer officially begins at the start of December. The beach here ... read more

We have arrived in Oz, after a pretty uneventful flight, but didn't get any sleep, nothing new there. Going through customs on entry was fun, lots of questions and searches going on. One security guy approached me, and started asking where I got my swollen red eye, he seemed to assume that i had been hit, so i went along with that, as I didn't want them to turn me away thinking i had some weird infection. Arrived at danny and kates place, at a good 8 in the morning, don't think danny actually believed we were there, and he seemed a bit tired, maybe he should have gone to bed a little earlier. We have been staying with them for the past couple of nights, which has been cool and thank u, but have moved ... read more
