arrival at sydney airport
thomas the tank engine gets his much needed exercise in the airport after landing
well it has been a crazy week...tuesday we got to the airport and actually ended up on an earlyer flight out of seattle, we were all searched at security (they say it was because we had one way tickets) but oh well it didn't take long and we pretty much just walked onto the plane; we didn't wait at all. The flight to san fran was really turbulent somewhat like a roller coaster. The next flight wasn't as turbulant but it was sooo long, i figured i would be able to sleep for at least 8 hours on the plane...but no such luck, i slept like 2 hours. We finally got to sydney and it was raining and we were all soo tired; we cought a free backpackers shuttle bus to the hostel we booked. Our hostel was in a suburb called kings cross and it is litterally the worst place in sydney there were a lot of druggies around and we were right in the middle of a block full of strip clubs. At the hostel we were in a mixed guys and girls room we all got our own beds and a set of sheets...i didn't
first things first...go to the beach. it was about 30 degrees..how is it in vancouver?
put my sheets on my bed and just slept in my sheet sleeping bag (the rest of the guys had sheets and their sheet sleeping bags) this wasn't a good idea as i woke up the next day with a dozen mysterious bites on my body...and the rest of the guys had nothin! We were only booked 2 nights in the hostel and we soon learned that there wasn't much chance of getting more nights because everywhere is so busy. The day we arrived in sydney we didn't get to much done, we went to bondi beach for a bit (it got really sunny in the afternoon), bought a newspaper and looked for places to rent. We called a bunch of places however the phones ate a lot of our money we probably put about 15 bucks in for about 4 calls; this is partly because we were not used to the funny looking coins that they have here in australia, we soon got a cell phone set up for pretty cheap. Also we all were nearly hit by a car at least once. You wouldn't think its a big deal to look the other way when you cross the

road, but you just naturally look left first. After a few near misses and some honking horns you pick things up pretty fast. The second day (friday), we found a place at coogee beach (a few beaches south of bondi beach) the place we found is literally 30 seconds walk from the beach and right acoss the street from a nice cafe. We were the first of a few people to look through the place and the person renting it chose to let us have it! The thing was is we couldn't move in untill tuesday and we had to move out of our hostel on saturday morning. So as of saturday we were going to be homeless and everywhere seemed to be booked up. we were up late on friday calling everywhere and finally we were able to make reservations for sat, sun and monday night at some hostel that wasn't in the sydney red light district. Saturday was moving day (the first of a couple) this one was to our next hostel, and to our surprise this place happened to be about an hour and a half away with about 3 bus transfers, and alot of walking with

about 75 pounds each!! we landed up in a super nice family hostel 30 seconds from a real nice beach called collaroy beach. This place has a real nice communal kitchen, and real nice private rooms so we finally didn't have to worry about carrying everything with us..and it was the same price as hostels in kings cross. Over the next days at collaroy beach we relaxed on the beach...played poker with guys at the hostel...and hung out at a cafe with a lot of surf bums. The surfers we have met live the stereotypical lifestyle, they work just enough to get by and hang out with everybody near the beach trying to sell you surfing lessons. I personally havent hit the waves yet...but will soon. Went to chrch on sunday and it was pretty crazy...a lot different than willingdon thats for sure. Its a pentacostal i think, but everybody is real loud and crazy and the preacher was really enthusiastic...we all thought it was funny but we enjoyed it. We went to the welcome center after the sermon and talked to the c and c pastor, he is a real cool guy, we are planning to go to the

youth retreat at the end of this month and the youth gets together every friday; so this friday they are all going to the beach...we will be goin for sure. We moved into our apartment on tuesday (it is thursday here now) first stop was the grocery store which cost us $350...we are hoping that this will last us one week. I am really happy with our apartment; we have two really big bedrooms with 2 beds each and then another bedroom with one bed in it. We are all happy to be in a permanent place that we can call home. Our next step is finding jobs...yesterday i called a marketing agency and they gave me an interview, it sounded like a really good job and they liked me and wanted me to come back today to spend a day with one of the employees to find out what it was like. This seemed like a real high class place because you are required to wear a shirt and tie. Between the 4 of us guys we were able to put together a nice set of clothes for me to wear! I went in this morning at 9:00 and
a nice evening after a day of burning at collaroy beach
met with one of the guys. I only lasted untill about 12:30, it turns our that these guys are solicitors and go around the mall trying to sell credit cards to people. The actual product was alrite but i am not interested in doing that. Everybody hates solicitors, and i don't want to spend my day talking to people that already don't like you even before you meet them. I told the guy that was training me that i didn't think that this was going to be my thing, he tried to convince me to stay, but this just wasnt' for me. So i am back to square one. The other guys have not found anything either. We would all like to be working by monday. However with 30 degree weather and a beautiful beach 30 seconds away...its easy to loose focus. We went to the beach last night and played football for a while...went for a swim..and then walked to our home wich is 30 secons away...i could get used to this lifestyle!! Plus everybody likes watching us throw the football because they have nothing like that here. Dan seems to only catch the ball when he is in front of at least 4 girls.
Anyways i am having a super awesome time...keep us in your prayrs. Hopefully we can all find jobs soon.
