Happy Canada Day to everyone. Once again we were lucky enough to spend Canada with Sarah's family at the beautiful Casa Melville nestled in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. Now that Casa Melville is officially finished it was time for George and Sylvia to welcome the world in the warm and inviting way they do. Canada day began with a flurry of decoration and organization. In the afternoon people began to arrive on the beach to partake in hotdogs (served up by the iron chef Mark Melville -- YAY MAIRK!!!) and fun Canada Day games. The waterfront was a swarm of red and white with the pinnacle of the afternoon being a stirring rendition of 'Oh Canada' and the cutting of a LARGE Canada flag cake. As the evening started we all moved up the ... read more

Getting the coach packed. Tire pressure is at 80 lbs for all six tires, oil level right where it should be and engine coolant is OK. Topped off windshield washer reservoir. The plan is to leave home base late afternoon on 5 July, drive about 3 hours to Terre Haute to spend the night. We have an appointment for a recall on the mounting brackets for 0900 on the 6th in Richmond, IN. After the recall work is done, we plan to camp for three days w/ a grand-daughter and her aunt (our oldest). Then the grand-daughter will come & visit with us for a few weeks. So, that's the plan. Nothing fancy. We'll let you know how it turns out.... read more

Ironically, on this 4 July, my focus is on China rather than the US. I'm starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with all that needs to be accomplished and people I want to see before I venture to the other side of the world. Less than two weeks now;actually, closer to one. Enthusiasm still high with fearful anticipation and anxiety trying to work their way up to the same level. I have enough of an existentialist's outlook to feel "What will be will be" but I will be so ticked if the plane crashes or something, and I don't get to experience China. I realize that China is the "sleeping giant". So many have pointed that out to me. For me, all the more reason to go. Only person to person contact can relieve prejudice and ... read more

I have now completed my three weeks of staff training and am now a certified van driver! Since my last journal I have been climbing, mountain biking, country dancing, out for blueberry pancakes, shopping and spent my two days off in Vermont. It has been awesome! In Vermont I stayed in a house right by a lake and went swimming, kayaking and just chilled out. Just want I needed to recover from all my hard work! Now only a few hours left of freedom until the kids arrive. I have one group of 12 and am living with a group of 19. Oh forgot to say, yes I am still in the yurts! No nice cabin with electricity for me. Oh no! Will try and attach a photo next time and then you can all see ... read more

KATIE: Hi, everyone! Well I am going to be in Oregon today! We have been through Montana, Idaho, and we are in Washington right now. We will be in Oregon around 7-8 or in your case 8-9. I told you a lot yesterday. Well I guess I can tell about the hotel I went to last night. We went to Wingate Inn. The swimming pool needs a bigger place for the older kids to swim because the water slides end there then you shoot out. It goes to about 4 ft. But the slides were awesome . I’m going to give you an update of what my family is doing now. My 7-year old brother is spaced out in Game Boy Land (he’s playing game boy.) My 3-year old brother is taking a nap but just ... read more

A brand new journal. I am heading out west in 50 days exactly. I have been planning this move for just under 1 year and can not wait till it happens. I have been so excited about it and consistently talk about it. I never thought about what I will miss until the last month. There are so many things I miss, as much as I hate living in Brampton, I love Toronto though. *Hanging out with Elaine, smoking, drinking tea and watching movies including Sex and the City *Partying with Carmen, drinking alot and just having fun downtown *Patio season in Toronto *Surprisingly some of my customers at work, there are alot of sweet ones *Smoking a pinner while sitting in traffic on the Gardner *In lining by the lake *Relaxing in the hot tub, ... read more

Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico 22:00 I decided to write an autobiography of my life. I want to find all the most important events in this life and past lives. BTW - I question the existence of past lives. I am longing to experience it, since I cannot believe things that I don't experience myself. I hope to meet someone on the road who will take me on this journey…

Canada Day, take 2 It’s been overcast much of today, and at 5:00 pm it seems to be turning cold. We are parked again at Long Beach, amongst the surfers, who are here in force. When we first got here, around 8:30, all the best view spots were already taken. We settled for one of the lesser view spots, made and ate our breakfast of oatmeal, Buck grapefruit, and mocha, and then headed for Tofino, where we aspired to use the Internet and take showers. We succeeded at the first, but failed at the second, so I think tonight it’s going to be sponge bath in the camper time. Or maybe we should fill the black plastic shower bag and put it on the roof for a few hours to see if it works in this ... read more

Today was the best day ever. We had nothing planned and it was wonderful. We pulled into a park in Minnesota to chill out for the day. The park had a sand bottom swimming pool and showers!!! The pool water was a little cold but I didn't care. It was so nice to get wet and get get all the gunk off my skin from camping out for the last couple of days. Afterwards we hit the coldest showers I've ever been to. I got a head cold freeze just from the water running on my hair. I also managed to find a cheeseburger which I had been craving for days. It was tasty! ... read more

Today was day to drive to Volcano National park. The drive was nice, especially with our convertible. On the way we could already see lava from many years in layers. We wanted to camp there, so we thought we should first get a spot and then head into the park. It was a smart move given that we got really delayed at night. After setting camp, we went into the park and took the Crater rim drive. On the way we saw Lava tubes, devastation trail and numerous crater lookouts. Then we went on Chain of Craters drive which is again full of all craters. We also took a short Petroglyph trail which has some patroglyphs carved on the lava rocks. No one has been able to decipher those yet. On the way we saw some ... read more
