Kindness is more important then wisdom, and the recognition of this is the beginning of wisdom. ----Theorode Isaac Rubin July 5, 2005, Tuesday. We traveled by train this morning on the White Pass and Yukon Route to the summit. Today is the sunniest, brightest day since we have been in Alaska. The scenery along the trip was spectacular. The climb was about 3,000 feet and of course, we started at sea level. I never tire of looking at the mountains, waterfalls, and pine trees. It is hard to imagine the prospectors slogging along this steep, narrow trail with horses and the hopes of becoming RICH! Back at the station, we had some lunch and began the second part of our day. With permit in hand and our backpacks ready, we drove to the trailhead for the ... read more

Well we went on the Gondala ride up to the top of Whistler Mountain and the view from up there was just beautiful!! can't wait to get the next CD burnt so that I can put the photos up for you all to see - there was snow everywhere up there so for the second time in my life I got to touch it and was pretty excited!! It was a bit chilly up there but not as cold as I thought it would be. We went for a bit of a walk and took a few pictures, made some snowballs and headed back down so that we could leave for Jasper. On the way we passed through some 'Indian' reservations, and our tour manager told us that they are not referred to as 'Indians' anymore, ... read more

You may have been wondering where the title for the previous update came from. As it happens I omitted the next couple of lines from the end of the journal. Hope all is clear now. After the pizza I again try to get some cash out for the bus tomorrow. Two ATMs not working properly. The third withholds my card. Aaaargh ! Give up for tonight. ... read more

Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico 23:30 Today around 11 pm, I arrived to the internet café "Conecta Te", hoping that I will find an owner, Nahum and we will finish the webpage. He was not there. I went on the street to search for a place to sleep. After a few minutes, I met a met in his mid-fifties that filled the tank with gas. I asked him if he can host me and he accepted it. Within the few minutes, we started talking about the death of Christ and the authentity of the Bible. "And which religion do you belong?" I asked him. "We are christians - followers of Christ." I liked his answer. Even if I do not pertein to no religion, I also consider myself a follower of Christ. He started with a story. "I ... read more

Well, we are here in Topeka, Kansas, 725 miles from home. It's been a long exhausting day of nothing but driving and many pit stops. We left Francis Ferry Road at about 6:30 this morning, and drove until about 10:00. The only thing of any real interest we did today was drive through St. Louis and go past the Arch. We'll probably go up in it on the loop back home, so hopefully there will be pictures later from that. Well, like I said, nothing really but driving today, so nothing interesting to talk about. We'll make it to Colorado Springs tomorrow afternoon, and hopefully get to go up Pike's Peak, so tomorrow night's post will be much more interesting than this. Bye for now!! ... read more

It all started out with lists and lists of things to do. - Find a job (there's enough involved just in that!) - Research! Research! Research! Once I dedided on China, there were more lists. - Appointments - Immunizations (Hep A, Oral Typhoid, etc.) - Get the anti-malarial drugs - Quit the bakery - Buy all of the shit I need (and that's a lot.) - Apply for Chinese Z Visa. - Book a ticket - Heath Insurance - Millions of other errands. For those of you who know me, you'll know how often I re-wrote and re-thought those lists. I still am. So, for the moment.. all of the appointments are taken care of, I have all of the meds I need (Aka Cloroquine), I've given my notice at work (last day is Saturday!), I've ... read more

When we last wrote, we were ahead of schedule and had only 600 miles to ride to the Virginia coastline. After the Appalachians were going to be home free. We had only one more state ahead of us and a reasonable riding schedule planned…Suddenly the Atlantic felt just too close for comfort- the reality of finishing the trip and acting like adults loomed. So, we balked. Instead, we blazed a quick trail south following the tracks of Daniel Boone through the Cumberland Gap and crossing Tennessee in one day. The Great Smoky Mountains After a 100-mile day of riding, we arrived in Gatlinburg, TN at 10pm on a Tuesday night, expecting a sleepy-town nestled at the foot of the mountains where we could lay our bikes and our heads. Instead, what we got was a theme ... read more

Texas. Generally the end of the line for us all, really. ...they have taken over.... just kidding. sort of. Had a great time with my best friend and her husband, Kit and Leslie Tomlinson. It was one of the times I felt most relaxed on the trip. Kit and Leslie have been one of the main reference points of existence at seminary the last two years. I'm very grateful for that, it would maybe have been a totally different experience without them--in fact, I might have left. They left to move to TX and help pastor a church (Les- associate, Kit- Youth Pastor) there now, very sad. It was great to see though that there really is life after seminary! They have a grown-up house, and grown-up offices and everything. Plus, the cool new cell phone ... read more
