Quicky entry for travel day 1.. Plane delayed leaving Heathrow with passenger escorted off plane. Would love to say why but we didnt get the benefit of seeing anything. Delay caused by the off loading of his sodding baggage... Long flight, good films, passable food, excellent service though then the joy of Los Angeles Immigration. After approximately 12 hours on the plane, the prospect of a 2 hour wait to be interrogated makes you wonder why the hell you would choose to come (back) to the US! A travel tip, give at least 4 hours for a connecting flight, better to do an overnight stay and travel the next day, so many of our fellow passengers got caught out like this. Luckily we had booked into the Airport Marriot with what appeared to be the entire ... read more

This weekend was relocation when our ship changed home ports from Fort Lauderdale to Tampa. We had 2 days at sea with no passengers - the ship all of the crew! Those couple days were packed with parties, drama and emotions. Thursday night (the 12th), I was DJing the last dance party of the cruise for my teens and I logged onto the internet to send/receive email. There was one from mom that said Grandpa Steinhoff had gone to the hospital with pain. They ran tests, then operated and now he was on life support. The doctors had told Grandma to notify the family because he was “serious”. I felt panicked. I just wanted to be home, to call home, to leave. My biggest fear about going far from home, especially for an extended period of ... read more

I spent three more days with Eileen and Steve not doing too much of anything. I would get up in the morning, sit by the pool and then hang out in the evenings with them. Eileen and I managed to do all of the things we used to do together back in the day - eat lobsters, play games at a bar, watch movies (actually, she would watch and I would fall asleep), gamble, get too much sun and hang out solving each other’s problems. It was a very nice time and a great break - very relaxing and just what this overworked person needed. Today, I moved on. In the early afternoon, I went to meet Colin at the airport. What luck! The weather up north was horrible, so many of the flights to and ... read more

14/04/07 - 15/04/07 Grand Canyon On all the lists you can find of the worlds 7 natural wonders, the Grand Canyon holds its place. Here’s the facts; it’s 217 Miles (349 km) long, between 4 and 18 miles (6-29 km) wide and a stunning 5000ft deep. The fast flowing turquoise Colorado river has been slicing its way through the Colorado plateau for 6 million years say the experts, accounting for it’s depth, but the canyon’s impressive width has been formed by erosion through weathering of wind and rain and most powerfully through ice. We drove Desert View stopping at the various view points, starting with the Watchtower. In the early evening light the Canyon looked slightly hazy and impossible to photograph. Although impressed by it’s majesty, we were tired from a long day’s drive so we ... read more

The thought of going to Vegas was a worrying prospect because me and casino's do not go well together because its so addictive! We left Mari's house late to drive to Barstow, Jun's family home, to drop of Mya which I hated because it meant spending less time with her, then drove to Vegas! I can't say much about the journey because I was a sleep! We arrived at Tiffany's house after midnight and after a little bit of catching up, fell asleep!!! Next day was a nice day in Vegas. We drove to a nearby Hawaiian BBQ and had lunch then drove down to the strip to check out the hotels! I was absolutely amazed by the hotels! How much work went into each design and how much there was to do in each ... read more

So I'm realizing how glad I am that I'm not going to be a student in NYC. You just hemorage money in this city. Knowing that I don't have another paycheck coming for another 2 years would make living in Manhattan kinda tough - not that LA is going to be that much different. That said, this place is ridiculously fun and i wish i spent my last two yuppie years here instead of Boston. Oh well. Can't wait to get to a place where the $150 I just spent costs $1.50 instead.... read more

I did it! I drove to Progreso yesterday! It's a straight shot there and back from Merida. The beach was great and really not crowded. People started coming around 11:00 but there's plenty of beach. I ate a fried fish and it was wonderful and huge! Hey, Debbie, head, eyes and all were on the platter! They fried it whole. Would feed two people. Then last night I found (kinda) downtown. Lots of people on the street but I didn't find any bands playing. It may have been too early. Anyway it was raining and thundering so I came home. So far, rain here has been just big fat drops, not like the downpours at home. My driving confidence is way up there now. I may even try to find Walmart's today. ... read more

So I've decided to start this travel blog thing to keep everyone posted on my stay in Spain and travels around Europe. I will be leaving 10 days after my 21st birthday (August 17) and I am so excited for a crazy/amazing/educating/once-in-a-life-time opportunity to study/live in Madrid, Spain. ... read more
