Comming to America.......well everybody had been talking about how strict it is when you enter the country, but it wasn't that bad. I guess compared to the other places we´ve been to it´s not so bad. In Singapore we were grilled far more thoroughly as well as in Australia. But in Fiji we hade to prove that we were actually gonna leave the US in the near future....so maybe that´s why they didnt care to much when we got to LA. But anyway..LA´s been funny. Haven´t seen mant silicon babes, but we didn´t go to the beach and that´s probably their main hangout ;) And not one celebrity has cought my eye:"where´s Lindsay and Paris. We went on this tourist bus and drove past celebrity houses. It felt really perverse, sort of like spying. Paparazzzi is ... read more

Sorry for the long delay in writing and this entry will not be very long as I leave tomorrow morning for Athens at 5 AM so I need to get bed, but I did want to let you know I had not fallen in someplace and with as much travel as I have done the past week, it is surprising. Just a quick travel schedule, I left on Friday right from work heading to Warsaw. I had a terrible B&B so moved to the Marriott for a well needed nights sleep before leaving the hotel for the airport at 4:30 AM to go to Paris via Milan Italy. I was only in the Malin airport long enough to run to my plane, but my bag did make it. And in Paris, I was only in the ... read more

Left Kingman early and headed towards Las Vegas .After two hours driving on cruise control I was in good time ,At this point I arrived at the Hoover dam Hoover Dam is a testimony to a country's ability to construct monolithic projects in the midst of adverse conditions. Built during the Depression; thousands of men and their families came to Black Canyon to tame the Colorado River. It took less than five years, in a harsh and barren land, to build the largest dam of its time. Now, years later, Hoover Dam still stands as a world-renowned structure. The Dam is a National Historic Landmark and has been rated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders It is a enormous structure ,when you first arrive it ... read more

9:30 p.m. We arrived at our KOA campsite in Wapakoneta at 7:30 p.m. It rained during our entire trip up here, as we travelled on State Route 33. It's a charming little camp, although a bit closer to the main highway than we'd hoped (This KOA is actually rated No. 5 of the 400+ in North America!). We have a small 2-room Kabin, with a mini-fridge, some outlets, beds in each room and that's about it. We have a fire pit outside that we'll look forward to using -- and we even have some damp firewood to use! The busy summer season has yet to arrive, so the site is very quiet. THE HIGHLIGHT of this evening was our trip into the Wapakoneta Wal-Mart ... yes, there is a Wal-Mart right down the street, so we ... read more

We took a picture of us this morning laying in the bed and emailed it to the girls. It is driving them nuts as to who was in our room taking pictures :-) We went over to breakfast and enjoyed the wonderful spread again today. Going to miss the wonderfful service immensly. We got up and we to the Craigdarroch Castle. THe hosue is wonderful. Its to bad the family sold off the surrounding lands. We would of loved to see gardens around it instead of house after house. We also went to the gov house and walked the grounds surrounding that. Dave jokingly asked where the mote was. That would of been way cool to see. The castle is currently undergoing renovations. Jenn wanted to touch the clothing in it but that was a ... read more

Trip to UVaLiz Toms Well, I'm on the road again. This time I'm driving to Charlottesville, Virginia, again. I had to make one last trip to one of my favorite places before everyone graduates from UVa in a few weeks. Keith and I set off Thursday night after watching The Office (which was insanely hilarious, by the way) and made our way through the night to Virginia. Usually, to cut down on the time and mileage it takes to travel from Champaign to C'ville, I go through Indiana to Dayton, Ohio, where I cut down 35 to Charleston, West Virginia, and then on to Charlottesville. Out of all the driving trips I've made to UVa I've taken this route the majority of the time. The other times I've gone through Kentucky on the route that Rand ... read more

OD's comments: Rain all night with medium winds. Our record still holds, no real rain while walking. To date we have only had sprinkles during the day while walking. We started at Lewis Mountain Camp around 8AM in very thick fog around 3,300' heading south. We went over Bald Face Mountain, around Dean Mountain, Saddleback Mountain thru Swift Run Gap and off another map sheet. Lastly we climbed Hightop Mountain, 2.2miles up hill over the 3,587' summit. The day ended up with nice sun that allowed us to dry the wet tent. I am doing this a day after the fact and can't remember all the finer points. My heel blisters are still there but not as bad. We did about 12 miles today. CC's comments: I can't remember yesterday other than the last hill took ... read more

This past weekend, I went farther south into the green world of Athens, Georgia. It was my first time out of North Carolina since I came down here on exchange, and it was such a fun experience. The UNCW softball girls rented a couple SUVs (2007s) and headed on the road on Friday. It took about 7 hours to get from Wilmington, NC to Athens, Georgia but the ride was a lot of fun. The first thing was saw was a place called 'South of the Border' that lies right across the North Carolina/South Carolina line. It's a cute little, Mexican world full of firework stands, some rides (twirling sombreros of all things), and lots of mexi-food. We didn't get to stop in, but it definately looks a fun tourist attraction if you have the ... read more
