G'day We've done quite a lot since the last blog entry. On Tuesday, (yes I know we've told you about stuff since then) we visited a contact who was recommended to me in Melbourne. Brian Studwell is the USA representative for Henselite - lawn bowls manuafacturer. They are probably the top of the market worldwide, and make all their bowls in Melbourne. Just before he played in a social game. Geoff got and gave information about bowls in both countries. Yesterday (Thursday) we attended our second TV recording. Yes, we were at the actual recording of the Jimmy Kimmel's show followed by a very loud, short concert by ancient rocker Ziggy Pop. Yesterday we went, with Andy to a rehearsal of the Bill Maher show "Real Time With Bill Maher" Maher is an ireverant left ... read more

04-27-07 Talk about last minute plans! We have been talking about going to Zacatecas for several weeks. We were attracted to this city for many reasons. Zacatecas ("Z") is 8,000 feet above sea level on Mexico’s high-desert plain. It was the first of Mexico’s great colonial-era silver mining cities. The cathedral in Z is considered one of Mexico’s most magnificent. Because of its location, Z has very few American visitors (yippee!) but it is loved by Mexicans. The city has a swiss cable-car that transports passengers to the top of the rocky peak Cerro del Bufo. We were also attracted by the former silver mine, Mina Eden, which offers a train tour into the heart of the mountain through narrow, dark tunnels. Originally we thought this weekend would be great. But then we realized Monday is ... read more

One of the wonders of the world. Headed out from Vegas towards Grand Canyon West. On the way we tried to find the new Skywalk and explore that. After hours of driving on dirt roads, we ended up at a site close to the sky walk. what we forgot to consider was the time difference between Nevada and Arizona, and hence, missed the closing time by one hour. they were charging $75 for walking on a glass bridge over the canyon. After that we headed further south towards Peach Springs in the Indian Resevations areas. Dodgy Motel, not so good food, and no bar or other restaurants within miles. (Middle of no where). Luckily there was 6 of us, and we managed to buy some alcohol and party in our rooms. Fantastic evening! :) Saturday ... read more

Monument Valley is a Navajo Nation tribal park, straddling the border of northeastern Arizona and southeastern Utah of the Colorado Plateau. It preserves the Navajo way of life and some of the most striking and recognizable landscapes of sandstone buttes, mesas and spires in the entire Southwest. The area is entirely within the Navajo Indian Reservation near the small Indian town of Goulding, established in 1923 as a trading post, and now has a comprehensive range of visitor services. There is new hotel in the park called The View, there are also lodging available at the Goulding's Lodge and Trading Post. Lodging is available just outside the park at Kayenta, AZ, 22 miles south Monument Valley is administered by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department, an agency of the Navajo Nation. The end of our do-a-whole-lot-of-nada week is tomorrow morning, so we'll be heading toward Arizona next. While we were here we got to hang out with a lot of friends, sit around our campfire, barbeque a lot, and we even went up to Universal Studios. Echo had a day at the dog beach, and Rummy had fun trying to sit on top of any games we tried to play on the kitchen table. Overall, it was a nice week, but we're both ready for our vacation from our vacation to end. Hopefully now the weather will start to get better, and once we get back up into higher elevations in a week or two we'll have a much better time. Fingers crossed that we won't find any more snow, or threats of freezing pipes! ... read more

Michelle and I went on a road trip to Jasper and to check out the local canyon and waterfalls along the way. First up was Mistaya Canyon. These falls had formed a deep canyon over the past 10,000 years and the erosion had left these cool boulders behind with freezing water plowing through. All the waterfalls and rivers are glacier fed so there is definetely no popping in for a quick dip. We took ice crampons which came in handy at times. We then trekked on to Peyto lake which I really wanted to see but unfortunately its still frozen. I've seen photos with the mountains in the reflection of this cool blue lake. We moved on to Jasper where we spent the night in our shitty hotel. Just look ate photo of me in ... read more

I haven’t been feeling well this week, random inexplicable pain. So today was mostly about sleeping, resting and going to the infirmary for some answers. They think I have an infection and have given me some drugs. Will hopefully be pain free soon. But I did briefly get off the ship with Brooks and Catherine, just to explore the area around the pier. There’s not a lot in Costa Maya. The pier was created by the cruise line. There is no city or even town right by the pier. It’s a stop used to access sites on mainland Mexico for tours. Not really a place to stop and see right by the water. Because the pier was created by the cruise line, it is EXPENSIVE! Lots of wandering in and out of the shops. No shopping. ... read more

Hi and big love to everyone… We finally left Puerto Vallarta and took a sleepless 21 hour bus journey down the west coast of Mexico heading for the bright lights of Acapulco… The journey on bus was touted at taking 18 hours to get there - 3 x 6hr drives I thought and we are done! So the18 hours came and went and we are still weaving up and down the mountains in the bus going south… A mosquito has decided my feet look like a good place for a bite and I’m trying to doze off as the sun is starting to rise. People had said to us “you’ll not like Acapulco as much as Puerto Vallarta” so with this in mind we approached Acapulco 21 hours later, dazed and confused… We jumped in a ... read more

Aaaah, hello Friends! In the last couple weeks I have received a number of emails asking the same question . . . “WHERE are you?!” - one friend actually wrote my mom to try to get the scoop on my whereabouts (sorry Al). My apologizes to all - as suspected I’ve proven that I am not a “blogger” . . . but I am alive and happy with much to tell about my last 5 months on the road (has it really been that long?!). If you’ve been reading any of my entries you’re aware that I’m extremely thorough (aka long winded) so if you’re only interested to know where the heck I am now skip to ** before the last few paragraphs ;) That being said I must also acknowledge my gratitude for allowing ... read more
