St. Louis ZooSt. Louis Zoo was just named the best zoo in the U.S., and it's free!!!We decided to go with some friends and had a really good time. The zoo is really big and is well maintained. They create "natural habitats" for the animals to live in, not cages. We spent about 4 hours at the zoo and still did not see everything. More pics to come.... read more

So second full day in Fort Lauderdale now. Yesterday was nice, got some food in and went for a walk down to the beach (much further than we thought!!!) Was very nice down there, looks like a holiday programme with the crystal clear waters ect. Very busy too, but I suppose it was a saturday. There were so many family's around having bbq's, I think me and Vicky were both very jealous. Its cool the way they do it though, they have picnic benches and bbq on the top half of the beach, so anyone can just turn up and use one. We're kinda short on beach towels (traveling light) so we didn't get to sunbathe or swim yet but we're saving up to buy them so maybe today or tomorrow. We may head to a ... read more

Thurs 12-04 After two days on a train and a plane and spending a night back in the good old upper east side we arrived in Mexico City. Straight away I was struck by the colours, the bright light and the smell of the heat. very welcome relief after the very long winter. Our hostel is in the best location I have ever stayed in. Its right on the main square with a roof terrace looking out across the cathedral. everyone go to Mexico city and go to the mundo joven hostel. Fri 13-04 Changed our plan because all advice seemed to be against travelling north in mexico - instead were going to go along the carribean coast down to Cancun. We met Jesus he was a barrell of laughs- his friend is crazy about ireland. ... read more

Coral: Three days until we leave. Mom has been busy typing out our itenerary. At first she had us planned down to the hour but she has given up on that and is just getting a general overview of each area. We have a lot of things booked to do so we'll have to keep moving. It's so exciting but a bit overwhelming, I hope we don't forget anything.... read more

OD's comments: Started today at the Pinefield Hut near mile post 75 of Skyline Drive. We awoke to slightly cool air and the sun just coming over the ridge. We tried a semi-cold breakfast to see if we could get out of camp quicker. We hit the trail at 8:30AM, an hour earlier than normal. We wanted the early start wit 13.9 miles ahead of us. We were just below the 2,500' level when we hit the trail, our highest point today was about 3,400'. We crossed Loft Mountain and Blackrock Mountain today and went through Ivy Creek Overlook, Ivy Creek, Doyles River Overlook, Browns Gap and past Madison Run Rd. We ended the day on the south side of Blackrock Mountain about 600' below the summit. We saw quite a few Northbound Thru Hikers today, ... read more

We left San Francisco on Saturday, April 28, heading East to Denver on our 3rd leg of the train trip on the California Zepyhr, which travels over 2400 miles from CA to Chicago (we would make a stop about 1/2 way in Denver). Little did we know what was in store regarding schedules for these last two stretches on the train. But we learned the importance of remaining calm and were grateful we did not have connections to make at the other end. Apparently this train is notoriously late. Despite our on-time departure from Emeryville, CA we frequently had to yield to the freight traffic and then encountered a disabled freight train in eastern California which put us as much as 8 hours behind schedule at one point. The engineers were able to make up ... read more

Geo: 51.1942, -113.602There was a big traffic jam at breakfast - tons of people staying at this hostel. There was a big lineup to use the toasters - they were the automatic conveyor belt type. It took forever because people didn't realize they could put their bread in immediately after the previous person, but instead waited for them to be completely done first. I would have liked some cereal too but the line for that was too long, and I wanted to get out of the hostel and have a walk before going to the airport. There was some kind of Spanish high school group staying at the hostel - a group to keep an eye on not for their academic abilities, but because it was a big group of future Spanish hotties! Ahhh ... to ... read more
