We continued our journey east from John Day to Wallowa mountains known as Little Switzerland 160 miles away. From John Day to Baker City 80 miles then La Grande 44 miles heading to Wallowa 36 miles. We set off at 10.00 arrived 4pm with a stop at Baker City for lunch. There is lots of history along this route connected with the great gold rush, the timber industry and the immigrants that helped shape this areas history. At John Day we visited Kam Wah Chung state museum and amazing historic time capsule capturing the lives of the Chinese community and their input into the gold rush. Two Chinese men unrelated became the main stays of the Chinese community. One was a Chinese doctor practising Chinese medicine the other an entrepreneur. Together they set up a community ... read more

For a completely unplanned drive, we are doing amazingly well! (Except for the Toby jug grrr!) Just finished watching the Bournemouth vs Arsenal match at The Coffee Shop in Price, UT. The barista there is amazing, she made us feel very welcome and let us just sit, charge and watch football. We have both drunk a lot of coffee so we are off to Nine Mile Canyon to look at some petroglyphs!... read more

Me & The iF3 I first found out about the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) in 2017 when they launched their organization dedicated to bringing the sport of Functional Fitness to the Olympic level, and held their first World Championships. There was a fundraiser and I pitched in. I didn't win the fan-wheel bike, but I was happy to help spread the word, and a seed was planted. In 2018, I decided to approach them about making a documentary. My friend James Fitzgerald at OPEX Fitness connected me to Gretchen Kittelberger, founder of the iF3, and we started talking. In 2019, the USA team brought me to Malmo, Sweden as their videographer and my documentary work for the iF3 began. I turned the footage from that trip into Reach For The Rings, my feature documentary about ... read more

We continued along US 26 or Journey through time scenic byway. The marks of time are stamped across this landscape through prehistoric fossil beds, mining boomtowns and surprising sights like the Painted Hills. 55 million years of life are preserved in the rocks in this region, which is why its been given National Monument status. Enroute we stopped at the stunningly beautiful Painted Hills. The geological features are the random deposits of fossilised forests from millions of years ago giving rise to ochre, bronze and black colours over the hills, making them look as if Painted. We continued from Mitchell a small but full of character town. We stopped for lunch at its one pub where it threatened to punch us in the face if we didn't buy its beer 😄. We didn't and they didn't ... read more

We're playing catch up here. We are busy travelling or just having fun during the day to blog, sorry, and our night stops are in the middle of nowhere with no signal. Where have we been? All the fun outdoor places of course. If there's a hill we'll climb it of there's a trail we'll walk it. Oregon is an adults playground. We left Bend after a saunter along the Deschutes river walk, and a visit to Pilot Butte, 380 feet volcanic cone down town 1 mile hike up and down with 360 views across the Cascade mountains. Bend is very progressive, kinda hipster place with lots of micro breweries and independent coffee shops. Apparently its full of Californians who live here and work remotely. It is beautiful. Bend was originally a timber milling town with ... read more

Bill, friend Kate and I resumed our journey across the USA on the original transcontinental highway in the heat of August. I was excited to return to Omaha where I spent most of my high school years. We planned a full day to finish up the last section of the Lincoln Highway in Iowa, then revisiting my old haunts and Omaha home. It was a nice icebreaker to remind us of the challenges of the road ahead as we traversed farm roads along the Loess Hills of Iowa. Omaha has emerged as a vibrant city – lots of development. I used to take quiet hikes in Fontenelle Forest with my parents – it’s now an admission-based attraction and even offers ziplining, ropes and bridges high above the forest floor. My personal highlight, after stopping by Mercy ... read more

Juchhu, ... read more

North America » Canada » Prince Edward Island » Charlottetown September 27th 2023

Tuesday 26thSeptember 2023 Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Captain announced whilst we were at dinner last night, that the reason we were late leaving Port in Sydney yesterday, was because we had dragged up another anchor!! This caused lots of laughter in the restaurant as we had lost an anchor on the other side of the ship, in the hurricane!! (Apparently, we could still sail with one anchor because of the stabilisers on the ship!!) Anyway,we didn’t have high hopes for Charlottetown as Prince Edward Island (PEI) is said to be very flat and the only thing worth doing was Anne of Green Gables Museum (which we weren’t doing!!) as she was born in Cavendish on the north coast! Decided to just have a wander on the Historical Red Route (as advised by Tourist Info!!) and duly ... read more

We enjoyed out time in Hudson! We "moochdocked" on Family's driveway; thank you Adam & Jessica! May be one of the quietest places we have stayed and beautiful with lots of trees and privacy. Mike's sister Tamara was visiting them part of the time we were there. She was our tour guide to explore Stillwater, MN a charming river town across the St. Croix River from Hudson. We strolled the main street checking out the gift shops, bookstore, antique shops, and samples some ice cream. While visiting we had a driving tour of the twin cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul. Jessica was great to show us the sights. We stopped in to see Adam at work and had lunch from a food cart in the skyway. So awesome to have the elevated walkway to connect buildings ... read more

North America » Canada » Nova Scotia » Sydney September 26th 2023

Sunday 24th September 2023 at sea Monday 25th September 2023 - Sydney, Nova Scotia As it was, we left at 08.30 am and apart from a lecture in the morning about the Mi’kmaq indigenous people of Nova Scotia, didn’t do a lot else except whale watching, and sitting in the sun!! (making the most of it!!) Arrived in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia about 8.00am but had to wait for a tender until about 9.00am and the ride took about 20mins! There didn’t seem too much to do in Sydney itself and there were another 3 big cruise ships in Port, so we managed to find another couple (Hong + Connor!!) to share a taxi with us to do part of the Cabot Trail with us and also see the pretty town of Baddeck (Can ... read more
