Date: 7/01/05 Location: Jackson, KY Living this past week didn’t seem so bad, but looking back it seems a miracle we survived it: -At auditions we had 23 kids show up. Our show usually has 60. Ricki-Ticki-Tavi story is cut, as are a few characters and groups are made smaller (Monkeys, Wolves and Snakes) -The number of kids continued to dwindle as the week went by. For some reason everyone had a dentist appointment this week. And I mean everyone. By Wednesday four of our monkeys had decided that they didn’t want to be in the show (which I attempted not to take personally) which left us with 7 monkeys (usually we have 18) one of which would not be back until dress rehearsal on Friday. -Buck (the Buck)’s father got into a car accident midway ... read more

New York Manhattan is a city that at first take I did not like. But after I gave it another week I found that there were many things to like and so many different sides to the city that I had to reconsider what made a good metropolis. To its credit it really does buzz off its own energy. This is a city for people with energy and ideas. Every day I have seen someone creating a new crazy new idea or product. This place is ruthless to those that try, but many persist and some have made their way. For those products that are successful, they will be succesful anywhere in the world. The streets are covered witih the brands that have survived this bear pit and they include: LG, iPod, Nike, GMC.... Most of ... read more

I was just offered a weekly column in the campus newspaper's new World Traveler section. I thought my pre-departure column that got me the job would make an appropriate first entry to test this thing out before I leave. For one, I can't figure out how to indent the first lines. Preparing to study abroad is a journey in itself - the first step in learning to cope with stress, exercise patience, develop cultural awareness, and accept humility. The first of these lessons I learned during finals. Attempting to understand German grammar is stressful enough without simultaneously attempting to rent an apartment halfway around the world. I frequently envisioned myself wandering the streets of Rome, homeless. Eventually, time-differences and a constantly fluctuating exchange rate were conquered. I now envisioned myself wandering the streets of Rome, enjoying ... read more

Hi there all. Well, have arrived "Up Over". Am currently at the tail end of 30 hours of sleep deprivation. It's evening here in LA...7:15pm and it's still bright! Joy of summer. Had a good time before I left. Many emails and an awesome Arctic Lemon cake by my boss, complete with animals and marshmallows for icebergs went down a treat. Also had lunch with family and friends which was great. Had a huge list of chores to get done before I went and got most of them done. Was up at 4am on Saturday to catch the flight to Sydney. After quickly procuring a copy of the latest Harry Potter novel, we boarded the flight to LA. It was very bumpy for sometime. I didn't get any sleep seeing I just kept getting disturbed by ... read more

So I'm heading off to Houston today and to Peter Island tomorrow. When I woke up this morning I had a 102 degree fever, but I think I'm doing O.K. My fever broke about thirty minutes ago, so I'm sweating like a pig. Rocky seems convinced that I have malaria since I have similar symptoms to what he had when he first got malaria, so I may go to the doctor in Houston to get tested for malaria. I will be sure to let everyone know what I find out (but I'm pretty sure I don't have malaria). ... read more

One week from Tomorrow I leave for Waltham, MA. I can't believe it is already here. I am so excited to start something new. It's almost like experiencing a sunrise. The hard part is getting out of bed. Then you must patiently wait until the sun is fully up. I have already started to get out of bed, that would be all the program searching, fundraising, and planning. I will finishing getting out of bed next Sunday, Aug. 21st, when my plane takes off for Boston. I will get to experience the beauty of the sunrise in the next couple of weeks. I must be patient, relax, and enhale the beauty of change. With seven days left, I will soon begin packing for the next nine months. I have completed many of the tasks on my ... read more

Well its a few days late but last weekend my brother, Keith and I made a short trip to Fort Desoto, down in south St. Pete. It was a good trip, hot and humid but good other than sleeping in the heat. The park is really cool, campsites right on the water and the beach is less than a mile down the road. Lots of trails for running, biking and skating etc.... but overall my favorite park is the lack of development in the park lots of nature areas and wildlife around I recomemned anyone to visit, Ill post a few pics aif I can figure it out, Also only about 5 days until I leave for Japan.... Also I know these photos are awesome and yes I will do your wedding... read more

This last year has flown by. It seems like I was talking to Lloyd about if we were going to travel or not the other day. Planning this trip over the past 9 months has been amazing. The whole idea of taking this trip started when Lloyd and I shared a room fall quarter because he quite his job as a Resident Adviser in the dorms to pursue the life of a Bartender...I think it worked out well. I was in a journalism class and we were asked to buy three magazines that we would potentially like to write for. One of my magazines was National Geographic Traveler. The lead article was Around the World in 80 destinations. After looking through the magazine Lloyd and I somehow got to talking about traveling. I don't remember who ... read more

As I travel, I seek out places that have high-speed internet access at little or no cost. My stay on the Mississippi Gulf Coast led me to search the downtown area of Long Beach, Ms. I found a locally owned and operated coffee shop in what used to be the bank. The photos show that this was a Hancock County Bank Building. Now there is a hair salon upstairs in the back, and a coffee shop downstairs where the bank tellers used to be. This is a wonderful place to sit, drink coffee, and do internet business. The coffee and pastries are good, but the best part is that this feels like a small-town coffee house. It is not a national chain and doesn’t have the slick marketing where everything in the place is an attempt ... read more
