I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.------Bill Cosby August 25, 2005, Thursday. We are following a piece of the Lewis and Clark trail. At a visitor center, the Ranger demonstrated the firearms used by the Lewis Clark Expedition. We stopped at Big Hole and a Ranger narrated the events that took place here. Obviously a brutal battle occurred on August 9, 1877, when the US soldiers attempted to capture the Nez Perce Native Americans and return them to the reservation. The massacre occurred very early in the morning, many elderly, women and children were killed. ... read more

I was only in Aventura (suburb of Miami) for a few days but it was a pretty adventurous 4 days. We happened to be there during Hurricane Katrina on her first landfall and the eye of the hurricane passed right overhead. I was pretty nervous but the local were very calm and we just hunkered down playing Trivia Pursuit 90's edition until 1am. Thankfully Katrina was only level 1 on her first landfall as we all know the damage that she caused over New Orleans. ... read more

Hi all. This is just a quick note to let you all know that we are safe and well in Waikiki! We arrived in one of the oldest Air NZ planes but it got us there! no tv seats :( We got into a nice 20+ temperature in honolulu airport so it was a nice contrast, considering i was wearing my ice breaker top and socks!!... sweatie! Anyway, we woke to a lovely trash compctor at bout 6 in the morning and so we started our day. It was a lovely day, lots of sun and large americans! We deicided to walk up to diamond head point. we asked the locals and they said it was a 10 minute walk, or just 2 miles away. After a 1 hr walk we finally found it and then ... read more

The Shahs go to Yellowstone . . . over 2 million acres of protected land. We headed out the first day to see the famous geysers and, within 15 minutes of driving, had our first wildlife sighting - a bison on the side of the road. We actually passed it, turned the car around to slowly creep up next to it, and started photographing from different angles to capture the moment. By the end of 3 days, bison sightings were so common that I became disinterested. . . herds of them can be seen at waterholes, on hilltops, in valleys, along the road, crossing the road . . . of the 3,000 bison in the park, I think we saw the vast majority of them . . . and, frankly, they just aren't cute animals. Welcome to our blog! Phil and I hope that this format will be an easy way to share our experiences and pictures. On the 8th of this month we received word that our visas were finally approved! It only took a month and a half longer than expected.......... Now we are in the scramble to get everything done asap. We have already booked our flights, we leave Portland on the 29th and arrive in Singapore on the 31st (crossing the date line and a 17+ hour flight between LA and Singapore). Then we will spend several days in Singapore with Phil's parents and fly to Penang on the 3rd. Last Friday we shipped off all our stuff to Penang. Fortunately we will be staying in a fully furnished apartment so we didn't have to ship furniture. ... read more

World Youth Day was exciting, crowded, and tiring. We didn´t see too much of Cologne because of the crowds, but got to see other small towns which reflect the culture and beauty of Germany. We stopped by Paris for the day and saw as much as we could. We got to enjoy its grandeur and crepes! We are now heading to Barcelona. Unfortunately we are not able to upload pictures here and we don´t know when or if we´ll have time here in Europe, but when we get home we will post as many as possible, so keep checking up on us! love to all... read more

Many have asked me why I would take off a year to go to Europe on a mission trip. People have asked what I hope to achieve by doing this, or aren't I already close to God. So here is my reply: First I don't think during my life I will ever have such a close relationship with God that I can stop trying to get to know Him (I have found you are either constantly trying to achieve something greater or you are falling backward - there is really no way to just stand still in your walk with God). As for my reason for leaving Texas to seek Him, my desire for this year is that the person who boarded the plane for Oslo is not the person who returns. I want to surrender ... read more

Aí, tivemos ainda de esperar ... read more

What's up ya'll. As you can tell by the creative title of this blog... I have not yet departed on my trip. However, Sept. 4th I will be heading to New York to see C. Tan for a couple of days. And on Sept. 6th... i'm off to Iceland. I hope this blog serves its purpose of keeping everybody up to date and informed. And hey... if you try to call my cell phone after sept. 6th, it will not be receiving voicemail. Apparently my provider has made it convenient for them to charge me roaming fees every time somebody leaves me a voicemail. They were nice enough to allow me to check my text messages for free though... how sweet. Anyways... if you do feel inclined to reach me while I am traveling... the best ... read more
