With a couple interviews scheduled for Thursday, today was more of a catch up day for the family and I. I installed a really cool curvy shower rod that gives me 3 feet of more room in my shower. I also installed two new faucets in the kitchen for my mother. God, she was happy...I've never been much of a plumber, but we all think I did a pretty good job. I got a little help from Riley, who happens to be pretty handy with a wrench! I had a couple problems with my deposit for my class in Prague. My bank won't authorize payment because its from a different country. I will have to wire the funds over to Prague tomorrow. What a hassle... ... read more

Hey everyone. How long has it been? Quite awhile and we have done so much, so this will probably be a lengthy blog. So here it goes: After we left Bellingham we found our way to Mt. Rainier. What a beautiful place. We stayed on the Sunrise side and stayed for 3 days. The first day we hiked 9 miles and did some ridge running. That was fun. It was very hard hiking, but fun. The next day we hiked to the summit of Dege Peak which was only 4.2 miles and an easy hike. We then left the Sunrise side and headed to Ellensburg, WA. The Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute is located there with Washoe and her friends so I had to go. It was absolutely amazing! We sat through a lecture and then ... read more

Lexington to Roanoake We set off on Bike Route 76 towards Roanoake and promptly got lost again, 10 miles later we got back onto our route after a brief detour through some very picturesque (and poor) parts of Virginia. We were chased by dogs at one point, I took off up the road as fast as I could pedal, Vernon just rode along with barking dogs around him, they weren't vicious (probably just wanted some toes to lick). After lunch the weather deteriorated and we had to use our waterproofs, in the current temperatures it's a toss up between how wet you get from the rain and how damp you get sweating in a plastic coat; although the Goretex does seem to work fairly well. We reached Roanoke around 6pm after 58 miles of pedaling and ... read more

Great campus. *New York................second home *Week long, buddhist retreat in Barre, Mass. ..............life changing, the silence almost scared me away. Amazing experience. So we'll see how this online journal goes... it's a little different than anything I've done before but hopefully it will help keep friends and family updated. Hopefully I'll get some pictures up pretty quick, too. There's only a week left before I fly out, and I feel like there should be another month- because I'm not ready! I didn't realize how much there is to take care of, but between foreign currency, student loans and searching for somewhere to live when I come back (!), time is running short! So hopefully all the packing gets done on time along with the numerous other random things I need to accomplish. It has been terrific to see everyone at school, though, before I leave. I have to say that I will definitely miss UoP more than I ... read more

This is my last week of work here in Kansas. I've worked so hard to finalize my work and living situation in Paris...now I'm ready to go! After hauling about 200 pounds of luggage to and from France last time, I'm trying to be a minimalist this time around and only bring the absolute necessities. In that spirit, I've posted a photo of myself with my new hiking backpack. Although it's hard to see in this picture, the backpack is about as big as I am. I almost fell over when I was modelling it for my Grandmother. Hopefully that won't happen in Europe. In September, I'm going to San Francisco, London, and finally Paris. Stay tuned. ... read more

We made it! We arrived at San Diego at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 28, rented a car and got home by 1:00 p.m. We had a great time, wonderful experiences, funny anecdots and incredible adventures, all in 3 weeks. We learned so much, grew so much and enjoy sooooo much and one more time we can say there is no better place than home. We are still recovering from the trip, we have so much to talk about, we loved everything we saw, enjoyed everything we did, appreciated everything we had and blessed the people everywhere we went. Strangers, new friends and old friends, people is really the beauty of the world. We will try to add some more pictures now that we are home. Thank you all for your comments, your prayers and wishes, ... read more

Our first day in New York we went on a bit of a shopping spree as Dave wanted to take advantage of the cheaper prices in the US compared with 'Rip Off Britain'. He was beginning to worry that one back pack and a couple of shipped boxes wouldn't quite be enough for a couple of years in England. On loading ourselves up with a sufficient amount of clothes and a new laptop we decided the next day that we had time for a bit of sight-seeing. We headed first to Wall Street and marvelled at the huge number of armed police that could fit into such a small area. We then boarded a Circle Line ferry and headed out to the Statue of Liberty, followed by Ellis Island (where all of the US' immigrants entered ... read more
