One of the difficulties on 3 week trip going through multiple weather zones is trying to figure out how to pack. Well, before leaving, I checked the 10 day forecasts for where I'd be and decided that autumnal clothing would be best. Pants, mostly long sleeve shirts and a heavy fleece hoodie. But Mother Nature has her own way of doing things and today was winter, not fall. It was raining when I got up this morning, and by the time I left the hotel, there was snow mixed in and by the time I walked to the town square it was snowing. And sticking. And let me tell you, snow on wooden sidewalks can be very slippery. During my meanderings through the town, I found the ski shop and bought some gloves because my hands ... read more

Up at 6:45 to go to see sunrise over the mountains. Coffee and oatmeal then off to the marina again. We found that it was the last day for boat tours so we signed up for the 10:15 tour and went back to the camper to put Oscar in and got our heaver jackets and cameras and off we went. What a great boat ride all the way across the lake and up close and personal with the mountains. The narration was thorough and another opinion of the fire policy was heard but they also had stories of the past and how the park came to be. We are so blessed to have had people with the foresight to save pieces of paradise for future generations. This is one huge chunk. I can only think of ... read more

We set out around 1:00pm, MST, to tour the local area of Jackson Hole. We stopped at visitor center where this is also a Wildlife Viewing area. However, we were not fortunate enough to see anything there other than geese & ducks. We decided to take a drive up the Teton Mountain road and see if we could see any wildlife up there. We did see a good size mule deer buck when we first started out. But that was it…not even a squirrel! We drove about 20 miles, and up to an altitude a little over 8,200 feet. The temperature never dropped below 84 degree even at the altitude. We think that is why we did not see any elk, moose or bison. But, nonetheless it was a beautiful drive. We wandered in the village ... read more

This morning I received bad news from Arkansas. My very dear friend, Jackie Arnold passed away after a long illness with Congestive Heart Failure. Larry & I will be spending today in Jackson Hole, but early tomorrow morning we will headed out en route to Mountain View, Arkansas. Matt is not sure yet what all the arrangements will be, but will probably have a memorial serivce for Jackie in Mountain View, with no View. Jackie's final resting place will be PA where a funeral will be held. When Larry & I get to Mountain View, we will help Matt out with whatever he needs help with and then drive him to PA. Not much beyond that is certain at this point, but I will be certain to keep you all up-to-date on our movements. Take care ... read more

Yesterday, Larry & I went to Snowbird Ski Resort where there is summer things to do there. We rode an aerial tram up the mountain where you can walk around and hike if you want. At the top of the mountain, we were 11,000 feet above sea level. When got off the tram, both of us were a little light headed. But Larry felt it the most. I was able to walk around pretty good and not get short breathed. Not so much for Larry. He also had a queasy stomach. The tram leaves after 30 minutes at the top, but you don’t have to leave when the tram leaves. You can stay up there as long as you want as long as you are sure to not miss the last tram at 8:00pm. That wasn’t ... read more

Well hey there everyone! Well today we don't travel anywhere & it's a free day all to ourselves! God it feels good to be able to do what you want, when you want! The coach trip is good as I'm getting to see so many places & have met people on the coach but my god it's quite restrictive & like being on a school trip. You don't want to be late otherwise you get the bad pupil stare from Tour Director Bob. Anyway, let me tell you about last night. We had an evening trip out out on a "Chuckwagon Cookout" which is a ride in a wagon (bit like the ones you see on Little House of the Praire for those who remember that programme!!) along the Cache Creek to an evening dinner & ... read more

It’s a shame that Jackson, WY has become a tourist trap. Real estate is very expensive, shops are packed with souvenir tee-shirts, ball caps, and Western-themed stuff made in China; and the town is full of camera-wielding Asian, European, and American visitors. Of course, we are visitors, too; so, there you have it. There are some very good restaurants in town, although pricey. And, the Western Art Museum is wonderful. But the main reason for coming is to visit Grand Teton National Park. The Tetons are beautiful, especially when covered almost to the base with late spring snow. We shouldn’t complain, really, since we got permission to dry-camp for free in the newly paved parking lot at Teton Village ski resort. It was the off-season, and the Village was fairly empty. Skiing was over for the ... read more

Jackson Hole Shred Fest 2011!!! The last few years the CO Crew (me and my buddies) have made at least one big ski / snowboard trip each year. Last year we made the trip to Jackson Hole (Jax) and had so much fun we just had to do it again! This year one of our friends who went with us last year moved to Jax and has been ripping up the slope all season. He has sent us some pics, and they are having an incredible snow season! Needless to say, we are going to be staying between his place and a hotel. We will be there from February 4-8, ridin for 3 days. I will be flying in and Ryan will pick me up from the airport. It will be nice to get outta camp ... read more

Our Teton-Yellowstone vacation got off to a very early start: a 5 a.m. ride to Logan Airport for an 8 a.m. flight. We were a bit worried about the layover in Denver—a few weeks before, United had altered our itinerary, shortening a 3-hour stop to 45 minutes. In the end, it all went off without a hitch. Flying into Jackson Hole, the pilot banked the plane, giving us a first look at the jagged Teton peaks still spotted with snow. Mountains make for updrafts, so there were a few bumps. I gulped; Tristan grinned; Eli was oblivious. To Eli’s dismay, our first stop after the airport was the supermarket. We stocked up on peanut butter, honey, bread, trail mix, sunscreen, bug repellent, and other necessities we thought might be more expensive in the parks. Since we ... read more

This morning marks the beginning of day 30 for us. We have officially been on the road for a month and I must say we are lovin' every minute of it. When I think back to the beginning of the trip it feels like forever ago and I have to go back and read my own blogs to remember what we were doing. It does get a little hard sometimes because we miss the kids, our family and friends but luckily we have the internet and cell phones to help us keep in touch almost daily. Tim and I were just talking yesterday about how very blessed we are to be livin' the American dream at such a young age. We are so thankful for this incredible opportunity and never take it for granted, not even ... read more
