Yellowstone Day1 and 2 Up at 4am today for a taxi for myself and Bill to Manchester Airport for our flight to New York. All ten of our British group went through check on with little trouble, except those with two check in bags who were made to past $100 extra. Luckily my pannier was small enough to go in the cabin along withy ruck sac full of paperwork, camera, chargers and computer etc. At Newark Airport we had to retrieve our clumsy bike bags and shunt them around the airport to the transfer desk - why couldn't they have gone straight through? Just to extract another $6 from us for the trolley? Once on the aircraft for Chicago we had a long wait. Firstly the engines would not start and we were told we would ... read more

We kicked off our stay in Jackson Hole with grilled chicken for dinner and an amazing sunset over the Teton mountains. The next day we walked around down town, had lunch, and got suited up for white water rafting. We put in on the Snake River, and had a blast getting soaked! Some of the rapids we went over included Lunch Counter, Big Kahuna, Little Sister Goes Flying, and Box of Fuzzy Kittens. That night we went to the rodeo, which was very exciting to watch. We saw bull ringing, bucking broncos, barrel racing, and cattle herding among other things. Everyone had lots of fun at our first live rodeo. The next day we stopped at the local fire department's annual chicken fry and had a very tasty lunch. After we ate we drove down to ... read more

To celebrate my 30th birthday, my sister convinced me to do "something big." After a few months of procrastination, we (Chris, Danielle and myself) decided around Christmas of 2013 to climb the Grand Teton on my birthday weekend. Climbing to an elevation of 13,775 was going to take some work for all of us, not only because of our lack of mountain climbing experience, but also due to the difference in oxygen levels for my Sea-Level-Living siblings. Their training and conditioning was enough to overcome the physical challenges that we expected, but we really were not sure what we signed up for.... read more

Day 10- woke up and headed to the Snake River to go white water rafting! It was absolutely gorgeous and so much fun! After, we decided to go check out Jackson Hole ski resort in Teton Village. We had an early dinner and road the tram up to the top. The view of the Teton mountains from the tram and at the top was amazing. Next, we headed to the Wyoming Rodeo and watched the locals ride bucking broncos, rope the bulls, and barrel races. Later on, we met up with Jeffrey and some of his friends, who play in a jazz band, and watched part of their set at a small club. Where else can you do all of those things in one day!? Definitely a day to remember.... read more

Day 8/Day 9 Day 8- We decided to sleep in today. Ended up going to the Pineview Reservoir near by. The water was a perfect temp for the hot weather (in the 90's). We brought snacks and sandwiches. Nice beach-like type of day. On our way home we took a detour to check out Powder mountain ski resort, another winter family favorite. Heading to Jackson, WY tomorrow. Day 9- Arrived in Jackson to my dad's friend, Jeffrey's, house this afternoon. He is kind enough to put up with us for a few days. Spent the afternoon exploring the town square. My dad insisted that we go for a drink at the famous Cowboy Bar, so we did. A little background, my Dad spent a few years in Jackson in his twenties (with Jeffrey) and has been ... read more

Geo: 43.4799, -110.762We left Twin Falls early this morning, heading for Yellowstone. We had a beautiful drive. The eastern side of Idaho was much more impressive than the southern border. As we got closer to Wyoming, we saw a traffic sign along the road indicating that Route 20 to Yellowstone was under construction and to expect significant delays. So, we made a game time decision to pass on Yellowstone* and cut over to Jackson Hole instead. We got into Jackson Hole around lunch, found an RV space in a park a mile from town. After lunch in Jackson Hole, we had a great hike to the summit above Jackson so that we could see the Grand Tetons. We are planing to take the local shuttle to Snow King Ski Resort for dinner, then back to Jackson Hole ... read more

Day 2 Packed car to get out of hotel. Not a great night. We were woken up at 3 am and then 6 am with a TRAIN next to us..then I went to pack the car and the elevator was not working. I had a not so nice word with the front desk guy…Evan not feeling well. Decided to go to Celestial Seasonings factory first. Thought we would get breakfast along the way, but we were there pretty quickly. Really cute place. Went to café Evan got bagel that he didn’t eat..same with Tyler...maybe it's the altitude? Packed food to go…. My breakfast of “scrambled” eggs were a mess too. The cashier wouldn’t let me pay and got me a new batch She also brought me a box of tea! Went to the tour center but ... read more

Wyoming - day 1 Perils of a Flight Today begins our Wyoming adventure. I call it an adventure, because we really do not know what to expect. I have been watching the weather forecast and it keeps changing - one day warm, the next cold, one day dry, the next rain, some days windy, some not. All of these things have an impact on the current fires in the area which is why I have been watching so closely. There are currently 5 fires burning in Yelowstone National Park. According to news reports, only one poses any type of threat to visitors and that is more of a nuisance threat than a physical threat. That particular fire is close to the main road and officials will close that section if the fire or smoke makes it ... read more

We didn't expect it to rain today so when it started we decided to go to the USF&W hatchery and to the National Wildlife Art Museum just outside of town. The hatchery is located next to the Elk Refuge and is responsible for releasing over 200,000 Cut Throat Trout each year in Idaho and Wyoming. Cool to see how little year old trout look. Then we headed to the museum which was much bigger than it appeared from the outside. An amazing collection of diverse work including one painting by N.C. Wyeth of bison in the mountains. This museum also encouraged visitors to try their hands at artwork. Sean made an origami bird, Drew sketched a Cut Throat Trout, and Dean modeled a Cut Throat Trout in clay. We also spent some time walking around town ... read more
