We are currently in Jackson Hole, WY- our future home. We've decided that we are definitely going to move here. It's incredible. We are in love with the town of Jackson, but the Grand Tetons are what sold us. They are INCREDIBLE! As we were driving from Buffalo, we couldn't see them yet and we kept thinking they would show up eventually. Then we turned a corner and BAM! There they were and we got out of the car screaming because we were so excited! They are soooo cool. We've done a lot of hiking in the past 3 days here. The first night in the Tetons, we camped at a very cool campground. Unfortunately, it was very chilly... 30 degrees chilly. Luckily, Allison has an old camp friend, Maddy Bennett, who lives with her husband ... read more

Posted by: Onaxthiel: Driving through the mountain passes along the Hoback river made one thing clear to us, if it hadn’t been before. Fall is here in the northlands, or at least in the high elevation portions of them. The fall colors were in full bloom on all the deciduos trees in the hills, making for a spectacular palette. Our destination for the day was any decently sized town past Idaho Falls, putting us in position to view the last bits of Yellowstone we were still interested in on the way up to Glacier. After a ways, the Hoback gave way to the Snake river, and finally to the valley plains around Idaho Falls. Just before driving into town, we spotted a rather unique antiques shop along the road. Upon close inspection the structure was revealed ... read more

Quebec 2002: The Ice World Cup is holding an event in Quebec City. It's cold. I go into the Petzl trailer to get a little quesadilla. Sitting across from me is Stephen Koch (http://www.stephenkoch.com): Stephen is a strong alpinist, living Jackson Hole. He is out here for the comp. We get talking. As always, I am wondering what the next step in my life is going to be (5years later, I am still wondering what my next step in life is... I'm obvioulsy not great at that standard 5 year projection!!!!). Stephen suggests that I get in touch with Exum Mountain Guides (www.exumguides.com), a guiding outfitter located in Jackson Hole, WY. The thought really appeals to me. I have been seriously considering becoming a mountain guide and this could give me a great feel for doing ... read more

A summary of our wildlife encounters on the trip... The only one missing is the huge elk we saw coming back from Jim's late in the evening one night - he had a huge rack! It was in the middle of the road and very cool to see. Here's the animals that did pose for the camera.... read more

Walking around Jackson Hole: lots of tourists, cowboy hats, antlers, and the feel of the Western town. We just don't have many knife shops in Atlanta. Or nearly so many cowboy boots for sale. It's a small town with charm. In the main square, Dave started to say it reminded him of a more Western version of Sonoma and the same thought hit me at that exact moment, right there at the square. They must be similar. We have enjoyed cruising around, having a meal here or there, wandering into a bookstore or a little gallery, window-shopping all the way. ... read more

As we were driving into the main town of Jackson Hole looking for our hotel, we saw the sign: Teton County Fair July 21-29. We wondered what would go on at a Wyoming county fair as neither of us has ever been to Wyoming before. We soon found out: pig wrestling was tonight's main event! It was hilarious - teams of four (usually in matching costumes) go into a small, circular pen that is FULL of mud and a barrel in the middle. They let the pig out (size based on the size and gender of the teams), and the team tries to trap the pig, pick it up, and drop it bottom-first into the barrel. The first teams we saw were young girls. Then we moved into men, co-ed teams, women. Some of the teams ... read more

Hey we made it to Jackson Hole yesterday but I was to tired to enter a blog. When we got here there was a stressful moment when we found out we did not have a room and we had to call about 10 motels to find one. The first we found was 350 a night then we found a recently canceled room for much less and booked it on the phone with a Credit card.. so with sleeping in the camper top overted we checked in, breathed a sigh of relief, and headed to Bubba's BBQ for some awsome ribs and chicken... Our trip up was beautiful and we saw a bald eagle. He was to far away for a pic. We are excited to go up to Jenny lake today and possibly to Yellowstone. ... read more

After we finished touring the Grand Teton National Park, we headed back over to the Teton Village in Jackson Hole for the gondola ride. During the summer months, you can ride the gondola up over 3,000 feet to reach 9,095 feet above sea level. You can also ride the teewinot chairlift up about 400 feet. We really enjoyed both rides. The gondola gave us the best views of Jackson and the Snake River Valley but the teewinot was a fun and relaxing open air ride. We also saw a bunch of people palying disc golf down the mountain as well as mountain biking down. Most of the mountain bikers use the teewinot to take their bikes up and then ride down. My nephew really enjoyed the teewinot so we rode that a couple times. It was ... read more

Day 8 It was cccccccold last night! Benji checked and said it was a balmy 35 degrees, but no snow. When we woke up, we learned that we have a leak, now in a pipe. Probably because of the travel and age of our camper. Or perhaps the South Dakota off ramp did it. Either way, we’re finally headed into civilization and we’ll have to do some repairs. Your camper busted a pipe. Would you like to try to fix it yourself? Whitewater rafting was awesome! Hit three class 3s. Jackson Hole is very yuppified. There are way too many granola munchers for our liking. And nothing opens until 5:30…at least food wise. We wanted to eat at a few places that were recommended, but it didn’t happen. Ended up at a Bonanza-like place. Stopped ... read more
