This is for those that have been wondering if we made it home. Yes we did. We got home yesterday afternoon. Pedro and Sarah picked us up in Chicago at about 2 in the afternoon. We heard about the earthquake this morning and we are glad we are home. ... read more

Travelling from Platzburg in New York over the border into Canada with no hitches. Only the customs officer asking why we had chosen this particular crossing as it was from the back roads of New York state, we explained that we did not to use the freeways, we just travel the country roads. As it was quite early we had an easy drive into the city of Montreal, spent the day in this lovely city. Enjoying the casual pace of the place, however when leaving we caught up with the traffic. We quickly got out of the city onto smaller roads and travelled along the road which follows the Saint Lawrence River, and stopped at a small town called Prescott. We were so fortunate to find a place which offered small self contained cottages, so we ... read more

Geo: 45.2547, -87.0714Left for our Door County trip a day early to break up the long drive. Headed out around 12:00 (noon). Left food for the kids. Longest time being gone from them. Hopefully they survive and our house is still in tack and plants still alive. We drove for about 5 hours with a few stops to take a break on the way. We settled in at Pine Grove Campground & RV park in Shawano, WI. The place was pretty much deserted on a Monday. We had a nice quiet spot way in back along the pasture fence. Just had a relaxing evening surfing the Internet and researching places to see in Door County. Day 2:Pancake breakfast, clean-up, packed up and left around 12:00. Cool and cloudy morning. Drove until Sturgeon Bay where we pulled over ... read more

We made it to Madison and stayed in a nice RV park in the DeForest area. Once we were setup we went to Sun Prairie to meet up with Bonnie's friends, Deb and Annie at their church for Saturday night service in which Deb sings with the worship team. We went back to the RV as they needed to have an early night as Annie was competing in an Iron Man competition early the next morning. Bonnie and I opted to sleep a little latter and meet up with them at their home after the race where we had a great lunch that we then topped off with a trip to the Sassy Cow for ice cream which was delicious. Also picked up some cheddar & blueberry cheese which was equally good. We then went down ... read more

Rien. ... read more

North America » United States » Wisconsin » Milwaukee March 29th 2016

Thanks to a fun Washington Husky road game against Illiionis at Soldier Field, I had the opportunity to head up to Milwaukee for a Friday night game to see my 30th ballpark. Ballpark: Miller Park Team: Milwaukee Brewers Date: September 13, 2013 Score: Brewers 5, Reds 1 The Good: Beautiful entryway (very welcoming!). The sausage race! Very cool how people tailgate a bit for the games (obviously a huge tradition for all Wisconsin teams). Not glamorous, but visually appealing in most ways. Good crowd for a team that was really struggling. The Bad: Ryan Braun posters throughout (when he was suspended!). While good in most regards, it wasn't spectacular in many. It felt like it was in the middle of nowhere (i.e. no bar scene nearby, which is a huge minus in my book). Miscellaneous: The ... read more

We are on our way to LaCrosse, WI, an easy day of driving. We stopped at Lake Kegonsa State Park for an hour walk. The lake was beautiful with adult size swings under trees. A gorgeous day. Our Holiday Inn is located across the street from Mississippi River Park In Lacrosse. The hotel is full of Harley riders, a friendly bunch. We had gourmet pizza at Kate's and ice cream at The Pearl, a famous old fashioned parlour. Rolling out to Sioux Falls, SD, taking a meander through Minnesota, driving scenic byways.... read more

This year we decided to go a little further afield for our summer bike trip by travelling to Wisconsin (we also did the Olympic Discovery Trail this spring before leaving for West Hawk Lake-5 ferry rides,a couple of hundred kilometres and lots of hills) We arranged a fully supported tour through Around Wisconsin Bike Tours choosing the Northern Woods Tour which was to be about 500 km in 6 days. There were four of us in total - myself, Jan and 2 other lake friends. The first part of the Wisconsin trip was a 5 hour drive to Hibbing and another stay in the Hibbing Park Lodge (still no sign of Bob Dylan) The next day we drove to Three Lakes via Duluth. Minnesota and Wisconsin are both very popular fishing and cottaging destinations and there ... read more
