We are pretty much done with Christmas shopping, except for each other, and since we’re not going anywhere, nor is anyone coming here for the holidays, we are almost idle this holiday season. Strange indeed! But that means we have time to look at other things, and one of the most pressing is making all the arrangements for our spring trip. It has been five months since I last wrote about the Rendezvous trip and we have enough new material to provide an update. Joan has spent days researching the seven states in our target area and has come up with several things she wants to do. Add her ‘Rebellion Items’ to my ‘Bucket List’ National Parks and Monuments and we have a very full and satisfying itinerary. We’ve also mapped a tentative route and included ... read more

Ginnie and I left PA on Sunday afternoon and are presently in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. We have had a fast uneventful trip so far and the boys have been angels. I'm including a message from them at the end . We plan to be in MN by Thursday morning and will enjoy a little down time before heading for NB for the eclipse on the 21st. The Misadventures of Alfy, Watson, and Linus AWL... Today we all got in this box on wheels that our mom's said to do and we went for a ride, a very long ride. There was all kinds of running around first, stuff going in the box, lots of talking, and all this excitment. Well, we got excited too and ran and ran around in our friends yard. It was fun ... read more

Blog 08-16-17 Superior, MN We have been traveling over 300 miles every day and have so far gotten to Superior, WI which is 2 hours short of our destination of Grand Rapids, MN. We just couldn't do the last 2 hours and it's a good thing, it started raining just after we set up for the night. We had a very relaxing evening and plan to have showers and enjoy the rest of the night. We are going to see the Judy Garland museum in Grand Rapids where she was born and spent her youth. The biggest obstacle was going around Chicago and thank heaven Ginnie was driving, the traffic was terrible. I had sweaty palms just trying to follow our route. The interstate from Chicago to Rockford was brand new, they didn't even have the ... read more

June 9th up at 5am and on the road early from Sault Ste Marie. Wasn't much of a lineup at US Customs. The customs officer said he trusted us that we dumped all our food and let us in with no inspection. We entered the State of Michigan and then on to the Sate of Wisconsin. This was our first time in these states. In Michigan most of our drive was through Hiawatha National Forest. Beautiful tall trees some wildlife and very few people. We then drove along the shores of Lake Michigan until we entered Wisconsin. Cottage country. Everyone seemed to have a fishing boat. Once we entered Wisconsin we hit the traffic of Green Bay. A busy freeway with six lanes. We arrived in the small city of Oshkosh. Wisconsin is in another time ... read more

The blog will be short today as this is a rest day and we're not doing much. We both intended to sleep in this morning and we had good intentions, but the older I get, the more difficult I find it to sleep later. So we were both up by 6:30. After a quick breakfast, we headed back up to the room to relax and watch a little politics on television. We normally don't watch any television while we're on these road trips, but we both wanted to see this. It only lasted a couple of hours, and we were ready to find something not to strenuous to do for the afternoon. We mailed another package of stuff back home, and decided to tour the Pabst Mansion before tackling the laundry. The Pabst Mansion was the ... read more

It's time to leave the hustle and bustle of Chicago and head a little further north. Today we are off to Milwaukee, just 100 miles up the road. We were a little slow in starting this morning, those Doubletree beds are really comfortable. I also hadn't finished uploading the blog pictures from the night before, so I had to do it this morning. By the time we left it was getting close to 9:00. It takes a little while to escape the confines of Chicago, even if you are staying 20 miles west of downtown. The first part of the ride was through industrial areas, eventually leading to middle class suburban homes and finally to a really nice upper middle class bedroom community. It was about 30 minutes before we could really call Chicago behind us ... read more

Well, it has been over a week now that we have been on our journey, and we have travelled 600 nautical miles. I know in essence, it does not seem very far; you could probably travel that in a vehicle in a day or two, but on the water at our speed, it is quite a distance. And as we often tell people, it is more about the journey than it is the destination. After leaving Harrisville, MI on Wednesday, we dropped anchor that evening in the beautiful little bay of Presque Isle. Our vista was complete with summer cottages (actually, to Lukus and I, they looked more like mansions in comparison to our recent accommodations), a marina with a shop and restaurant, and two lighthouses. The newer of the two is apparently the tallest lighthouse ... read more
