After a hectic 6 weeks on the road we decided we needed to slow down and relax on a beach for a few days. No getting up early to make sure we saw all the touristy things in each place. We had origianly thought of heading down to Miami then over to New Orleans, thankfully we didn't want to spend that much time on a bus as it seriously would have cut the number of days we have at each spot and put us in Miami when Katerina first hit and then New Orleans at about the same time Katerina went through there. We deiced on Virginia Beach it was only a day on the bus and sounded like a nice relaxing place to go for a few days. The hostel we stayed at was awesome, ... read more

Lexington to Roanoake We set off on Bike Route 76 towards Roanoake and promptly got lost again, 10 miles later we got back onto our route after a brief detour through some very picturesque (and poor) parts of Virginia. We were chased by dogs at one point, I took off up the road as fast as I could pedal, Vernon just rode along with barking dogs around him, they weren't vicious (probably just wanted some toes to lick). After lunch the weather deteriorated and we had to use our waterproofs, in the current temperatures it's a toss up between how wet you get from the rain and how damp you get sweating in a plastic coat; although the Goretex does seem to work fairly well. We reached Roanoke around 6pm after 58 miles of pedaling and ... read more

Well ive been a bit slack so ill try and finish of the rest of the weekend.... Anyways after i went to sleep and woke up not feeling that great, we had a great breakfast of Biscuits and gravy (man Cheryl is a great cook) we said goodbye to Bone and Bev and Eric and Glenora. It was great meeting them all and finally putting a face to the voice ive hear for so long. After that I went for a swim with kids cause it was so hot out side and then we decided we would head to Water Country USA. Its a pretty cool water park, similar to wet and wild but heaps bigger. We went on a few rides and paddled around in the pools until about 7 30 and then thought we ... read more

This will be a fairly simple (and boring) entry until we get the hang of this blogging lark. Day 1, Heathrow All is going well, we made it through the traffic to Terminal 3 with hours to spare; then the fun began, my left pedal wasn't coming off, not for anybody, many people offered advice - "You're tightening it, you need to go the other way " mainly, a small group of children enjoyed the show (bending spanners with Uncle Vernon), unitl we gave up and wrapped it in a sarong and lots of gaffer tape. The check in queue was supremely sloooooow, we ran to the gate and got there with oooh minutes (2 of them) to spare. Our gaffer tape was confiscated and much discussion was had over our h*lm*ts, but they were allowed ... read more

With only 6 hours sleep the dogs attacked steve and I at 7 am and from then on the house turned to madness. With 4 kids in the house under the age of 10 wanting to play throw anything we can around the house. Cheryl cooked breakfast today they called Biscuits and Gravy (so the Australia translation to this is some weird sasuage thing chopped up and put in some creamy sauce and biscuits are sortta like scones) it was a fantastic breakfast and everyone loved Cheryl even more after that. We decided that we would go the beach today, so it was about a 30 min drive to the beach, but the beachs here are no where near as nice as the Australian beachs, but they do heat up alot more so the water is ... read more

We drove through 3 different States and paid 2.50 in toll money! what a pain in the ass. With Steve at the wheel (he didnt want me to drive on the wrong side of the raod) we set off on our 9 hour drive of hell. We drove about 2 hours to the Kentucky boarder we we headed in to West Virginia, the place of 900 country radio stations and the most amount of mountains ive seen on a Highway. Alright one more day before Jenn and I fly to Paris. I'm watching Lance Armstrong win his 7th tour de france and I can't believe Jenn and I will be there in 48 hours. 7 man..... crazyness. I'm not working tonight but I will be playing some outback kickball which will be a fun way to say goodbye to everyone. I also haven't finished sewing on those damn patches I bought during my last trip. I'm not very good at this sewing thing...... Oh well the backpack looks pretty sweet with the patches on. I guess its worth the pain (and yes constantly jabbing your thumb with a needle is painful). My next post will be from France! I'll miss everyone! Feel free to leave messages on this thing and let me know what you're upto! ... read more
