On bended knee is no way to be free Lifting up an empty cup I ask silently That all my destinations will accept the one that's me So I can breathe Circles they grow and they swallow people whole Half their lives they say goodnight to wives they'll never know Got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul And so it goes Don't come closer or I'll have to go Owning me like gravity are places that pull If ever there was someone to keep me at home It would be you Everyone I come across in cages they bought They think of me and my wandering but I'm never what they thought Got my indignation but I'm pure in all my thoughts I'm alive Wind i my hair I feel part ... read more

DEAR FRIENDS, I'VE DECIDED TO GO WITH TRAVELBLOG INSTEAD OF MYSPACE FOR THIS LITTLE INDIA BLOG. THIS WAY I CAN POST PICTURES WITH MY ENTRIES AND MY PARENTS WON'T HAVE TO GET A MYSPACE TO KEEP UP WITH ME. I JUST BOUGHT A SWELL NEW CAMERA THIS WEEKEND AND I INTEND TO BE OUTTA CONTROL WITH THE PICTURE TAKING. WHEN I WAS A KID I WANTED TO BE A PHOTOGRAPHER FOR NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, THIS IS ABOUT AS CLOSE AS I'LL GET. TODAY SOME DOCTOR AT WORK LECTURED ME FOR 20MINUTES ABOUT DRUG RESISTANT STRAINS OF MALARIA, AND PROCEEDED TO TELL ME TO BURN MY TICKET OR GO IF I'VE CONSIDERED MYSELF TO ALREADY HAVE LIVED A FULL LIFE. THANKS BUDDY!!! ... read more

Aldri mer taco, aldri mer pizza, aldri mer Stabucks Frappucino. I gaar ... read more

Here is my much anticipated first entry Hi there, I'm getting ready to leave. I hope to finish packing soon and I hope that then I will be more relaxed. I've been struggling with my computer and new digital camera ever since Christmas and I think I've finally gotten some of the problems under control. I was having trouble because my computer wouldn't recognize my camera, which means they couldn't talk to each other and I had no way to download my photos. This was not going to work. I have since discovered that my camera works if I plug it into a keyboard plugged into my computer. The problem being that a keyboard is a big thing to take. So today I found an old USB hub and YAY it worked! So now my ... read more

Today went over and met Gary's parents. You'll never meet nicer people than those two. Home cooked meal, good conversation...and it is nice to meet people you have heard about for a long time. Gary's father Bill is an amazing story - first ultra-marathoner I have met. Can you believe he has run races that were 100 miles long? Yes, run! On his own two feet! Or run 48 hour endurance races? And his mother Carol - well, being able to put up with Gary is like a non-stop ultra-marathon in itself. (Gary, you know what I am saying). Anyway, had a great dinner and really enjoyed myself. Afterwards we did some driving around to see some sights. We drove out to the Mansfield Dam, which separates Lake Travis and Lake Austin. On the cliffs above ... read more

Ah, my very first entry! I'm starting this blog as a healthy place to ponder about the next big trip and document them as they actually happen. The Next Big Trip is kind of a nice way to start to describe my mentality. I'm by no means extremely well-traveled, but I do what I can. I'm 20 (part of the inexperience), and a student at university. Like many people my age or otherwise, I'm often shocked that people don't think the same way I do, but I'm starting to come to the conclusion that my desire to travel... everywhere... is somewhat abnormal. My method of travel is typically along the lines of a backpacker/budget traveller. I really see no reason to spend more than necessary. And my ultimate goal, for my 20s at least, is to ... read more

Today we actually had a full day of checking out Austin. Got up at a respectable time in the morning and went out to breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. Man, those guys know how to throw down on their breakfasts! I ordered the "Country Boy" breakfast and couldn't finish it. Look at that photo! They should use that for one of those eating contests - "And our winner in the Cracker Barrel Country Boy Breakfast Eating Contest is Big Gut Billy Bob with two Country Boy Breakfasts eaten - a new record! The reigning champ, Garbage Disposal Greg, ate one and one quarter!". After breakfast we tried to find a camera repair shop using my Garmins GPS. It sent us to some residential areas, and since I didn't want to go knocking on Billy Bob's front ... read more

As yesterday was a long travel day and I didn't get much sleep, we got a late start on the day and didn't do much. Gary took me to the best Mexican restaurant in Austin - Rio Grande. He knows the owner, Mario, and we were treated right. I ordered some stuffed chicken dish (stuffed with Monterey Jack Cheese and mushrooms) served with rice and guacamole. It was snackin'! After dinner, we cruised through the Dell campus to see where Michael Dell works, drove past the Dell Diamond where the AAA baseball team the Express (owned by Nolan Ryan, I believe) play, and cruised by to see friend and former business associate of mine Dave Melendrez's fixer-upper house he as working on. After that we cruised back to Gary's house and just hung out. Tomorrow we ... read more

Okay, I have determined that much of Arizona, New Mexico, and West Texas are very similar....desert. 'Nuff said. There really isn't anything more to say about the desert. It's dry. There aren't any trees over three feet tall. It's hot. Everything is brown. I am fully convinced that people who live in the desert have something wrong with them. If you don't own a 4x4, then I can't see much to do for fun but kick dirt clods and stare at the sun. But hey, whatever floats your boat. Made it into Texas, "down in the West Texas town of El Paso"...(Marty Robbins song for those who didn't recognize). I used to live here when I was a kid and my Dad was in the Army. My sister was born here. My Dad suggested that I ... read more

After a couple of weeks bumbling round Austin and getting things ready, I'm finally ready to go. I got my diving certification sorted at the weekend. I've also been running round gathering odds and ends that I'd decided I need while backpacking - stuff like hand sanitiser, a mosquito net and so on. I also splashed out on a telephoto lens for the camera, and a jazzy new leatherman with all the attachments so I can repair stuff on the road. I guess I should have bought a roll of gaffer tape too. I'm hugely excited about the rest of the trip, despite the forecast for daily rain in Rarotonga while I'm there. I'll be underwater a lot of the time anyway, and I've been assured that it's mostly sunny. I've uploaded some pics from Texas ... read more
