I'm off!

After a couple of weeks bumbling round Austin and getting things ready, I'm finally ready to go. I got my diving certification sorted at the weekend. I've also been running round gathering odds and ends that I'd decided I need while backpacking - stuff like hand sanitiser, a mosquito net and so on. I also splashed out on a telephoto lens for the camera, and a jazzy new leatherman with all the attachments so I can repair stuff on the road. I guess I should have bought a roll of gaffer tape too.

I'm hugely excited about the rest of the trip, despite the forecast for daily rain in Rarotonga while I'm there. I'll be underwater a lot of the time anyway, and I've been assured that it's mostly sunny.
