Well it was a long weekend for the president's day public holiday, and with us having fridays off anyway we decided that it would be a good chance to do some travelling. With Melissa (Holland) and Marie (Sweden) we hired a car and drove south through Vermont, Massachusetts, Conneticut, and down to New York City. It was a really nice scenic drive, although it had decided to rain that day, mixed with a bit of light snow, and some of the roads were closed due to a pretty big storm the night before, so some of our scenic routes were blocked off, and we often had to detour and backtrack. It was a really nice drive still though. I bought an iTrip the day before so we had tunes for our 11h? drive (which should really ... read more

Well, I suppose its time that I write a blog about my school, since that’s why we’re here. I’ve been in school for two weeks now, and I would have written about it earlier, but in all honesty we are only getting into the more interesting parts of it now. The first week was spent primarily with paperwork and requirements, and we talked about the layout of the school and got a tour, etc. I have taken a few pics, but they don’t really do the place justice. (the camera, however, isn’t working, so you don’t get to see them). The Natural Gourmet takes up the entire second floor of a 10 story building on the border of Chelsea and the outskirts of Midtown. It really isn’t that big of a place, but has a number ... read more

It's hard to believe that it's been an entire year since I sat down to write a blog but it's been that long since we've been to Israel. Last year, five intrepid travelers from Community Synagogue journeyed to Israel for an amazing 10 days. This year, the number swelled to 36! Our group has participants from age 3 to 73 and everyone in between. There are 12 kids under age 14 so we are in for quite an adventure. Our trip will take us to the following places in Israel (see if you can find them on the map): Tel Aviv, Caesarea, Zichron Ya'akov (home of the famous Carmel Winery), past Haifa, Kibbutz Goshrim, The Golan Heights, Tzfat, Tree planting at the Golani junction, Neve Ur resevoir, Beit Shean, Jerusalem, Ein Gedi, Massada and the Dead ... read more

Well, we did a three day trip to the mountains, to take advantage of 'all that snow'. Day one: went to Iceface, err.. I mean Whiteface, the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, and theoretically, some of the best skiing this side of the Mississippi. We managed to get to the top of the gondola, where it was blizzard winds, and honestly, I could have spread my arms at the top of the steepest slope there and never have started a descent on my snowboard, due to the windsheer. Insanely windy. If I held my snowboard over my head at the right angle I might have actually been able to fly...looking back, I should have tried this. So, finally started my decent with a little creative hopping/voodoo dancing my way toward something really steep ... read more

Hello Friends! Well, I've been pondering how to start this blog for a week now, without any major breakthroughs, so I think it's time to just begin writing and see what sort of format I come up with. The current material notwithstanding, and, though it is my wont, I will attempt to keep navel gazing to a tolerable level in my journals. I have not left yet, but on Feb 26, I take off for Kathmandu to do a one week trek with Eddie and his girlfriend Michelle. While I'm writing his entry from the relative comfort of my home, I expect that future entries, written in internet cafes with diverse fee structures (or, such as the one on Liverpool Street in London, where a police officer warned me not to even take out my digital ... read more

For those of you who don't know me, I am an avid 'Southerner/American girl' traveller, wishing, hoping, for a RTW trip, but in the meantime I'm doing what I can, when I can. Here are my stories: Ever wonder what its like in a New York City snow storm? This moment, the snow is stinging me in the face, and sticking to my overcoat as I walk down the deserted 19th Street at 12:45am. In New York, the wind tunnel effect is in full force, down the avenue and east to west, though it really must be only around freezing, not much below, because it really isn’t but so cold. The street ahead is coated in white, the air is full of snowy fog, falling in whirls around the street lights. The building windows go dark-dark-light, ... read more

Hey all I know its been a while since i updated this thing but its been a funny old time, after washington dc we have been back to nyc for a further two nights, and then we have been up to boston and watched the superbowl in a collage bar, it was pretty boring game and it went on for four and a bit hours.....but never mind still good fun! We have been to niagra falls, which was impressive, keep an eye out for photos coming soon! we have also been to buffalo, and found out that the hotel we were staying at, (due to how cheap it was) is actually a home for recovering drug addicts and other scary folks, who seemed to check in with brown paper bags full of stuff instead of luggage, ... read more

New York City Hotels - Conan O’Brien Back in 2003 we were up late watching some Conan O’Brien and saw the ad for ordering tickets to the show. I went to the Web site and ordered the tickets. This was in the spring of 2003 and the closest date we could get was December of 2003. We were excited about going to the show and booked a stay at a budget New York hotel called Riverside Tower Hotel. The price was cheap and the hotel was not loaded with amenities or luxury accommodations, but it was clean and safe. The day of the show we headed down to Rockefeller Center to get to the NBC Studios. We heard from someone that you should get there at 2 even... read more
