Heading back downtown after our trip past the Statue of Liberty we decided time was getting on and we should head towards the Empire State Building where we were to meet Annie and Paul. On the way I was starting to feel a bit grouchy which usually means I am hungry (poor old Kim had got used to my hungry grouchy turns by now). We stopped at a vendor and decided to try one of the Giant pretzels on the way to keep me going!! We finally reached the Empire State worried that we would be late and that we would have a huge queue in front of us. It was now evening and our plan was to catch the sunset at the top and stay there until it got dark so we could see the ... read more

We said goodbye to the West Coast & California, and jumped on a plane headed for the East Coast - New York New York!! We stayed in the middle of Times Square at the big apple hostel, and it was a fantastic location, even if it was difficult to sleep at night because of the noise and the famous neon lights (thanks for the earplugs James, they definately came in handy that week!). We share a dorm with two other Aussies - Sydneyites. Our first outing is to Central Park. The place is huge & we get totally lost. We end up doing a full circle & find ourselves at our starting point. We thought that we had mastered the subway system until we got on the wrong train 3 times - bloody express trains..... Alright by now most of you realise that we came home early!! We cam back for a few reasons; 1. To surprise everyone 2. Save money 3. To be back in time for the world cup :-P!! 4. I was getting annoyed with Kim’s relentless smoking and drinking binges!! :-P While we were away our plan to come home early was pretty hard to keep from everyone so we had to slow down our blog entries and tell a few white lies so people thought we were in different locations than we really were! Writing a New York blog before coming home would have given the hint that we were coming home early especially as our final flight was from JFK airport. We had a lot riding on NY and hoped it would live up to ... read more

Hi everyone! What a whilrwind of an adventure I've had in NYC! It's been AMAZING! I have visited so many friends and felt so welcome here. This city is quite bustlng and exciting and there was always stuff to do here. A part of me wants to live here, but I also realize how tough this city can be. It isn't the easiest city to live in by any stretch of the imagination. But it's still a cool city to visit. So here's a recap of my adventures in the big apple! Thursday: Visited the Financial district, went to an awesome piano lounge where the pianists and singers played Elton John, Billy Joel, James Taylor, and some fun musicals. I think I already covered thursday. Friday: This sounds rather diva-esque, but I actually had to get ... read more

If you come to America, you should be destined to see the Niagra Falls.Without much a say,it is inevitably the most beautiful romantic wonder. We,a group of friends, decided to take a road trip from a much populated New Jersey through the calm serenity of New York state to Niagra at Buffalo.I remember it was a overnight trip, least to say we lost our directions in New Jersey and reached Buffalo at sun rise.We stayed in a small motel and took a nap. While we parked our car at the parking lot in Buffalo,I saw some tall buildings from the 3 storied parking plaza and on close inspection I read CANADA on one of the tall towers. Now imagine standing on American soil,so far no view of the falls and in less than a mile you see buildings that belong to ... read more

Well, I'm not going to lie. I had the biggest fright of my journey so far when I came to the Grand Central Terminal yesterday. I am not going to say what exactly happened, but I didn't get home until midnight (my flight got in at 8 pm) and I've become a paranoid traveler in NYC. But this really nice lady from Germany helped me out tremendously and stayed with me for 45 minutes while I was freaking out. Turns out, she studied voice at NEC and her mother went to Rochester. Small world! On the plus side, my first day sight-seeing in NYC has been AMAZING! Oh my gosh! Where do I start? I've seen the Statue of Liberty, took the Staten Island Ferry, saw the Trump Building for my mother, saw the New York ... read more

Now for the Star of the show, my time in the big Apple... aka New York City. I'm sure everyone who reads this journal knows at least small bits and pieces about this city. The amount of TV shows, movies, books and even Video Games based on this city, makes it a place pretty well unescapable. Of course the "tragic events" of the terrorist attacks back a few years ago left a scar (or snide smile) on the face of most people accross the globe. New York's skyline, the images of destruction forever embedded within each person. I was interested to see how much these attacks have altered or shaped current life in New York's dilly dally daily routines and thus fore effecting the people themselves and if it would effect me at all. So let ... read more
