New York City.

Had a nice three days chilling out in Patzcuaro which is a lovely old small town in the Mexican state of Michoacan. There are many shops carefully hidden within the old buildings so as not to spoil the town. Fantastic artisan goods are on offer and you can watch the craftsmen at work intricately hand painting items or carving wood. It was a shoppers dream, but my purse remained firmly in my pocket as I would have needed a plane to transport everything home that I wanted to buy! Instead I spent most of the time just relaxing and people watching from various cafes around the two main plazas. We did take a boat trip to Janitzio which is a small island on the nearby lake, but have to say that the island itself was a ... read more

well the trip over was fun. normal flights to minneapolis and then to jfk. when we got to jfk, greg and the older kids of his were gonna meet us and we were gonna go look at st. john's campus and go to eat. so mom and i arrive, in good spirits and happy to be off a crowded plane. we didn't really know where we were going, except out ot meet greg, and so we called him. he told us to meet him in front of the northwest departures area. so i figure jfk is like the other airports i traveled from, with one dedicated international terminal. so mom and i hop on the train to find the other terminals. once on the train, i find a map, and it says that we were just ... read more

Well, after listening to the above song flying into NY, I managed to add many more to the repertoire including ´Manhattan´, ´New York, New York´ etc. Whilst I was getting some accompaniment on the above, I was on my own singing Darren Hanlon´s (Aussie singer/songwriter) Brooklyn Bridge. . I arrived at Newark and was greeted by my personal tour guide for my stay, Joe Sinisi Sr. With a commentary filled with more names of architects and engineers than I could possible remember, not to mention dates, we spent my first afternoon in NY driving around Manhattan, taking in all the sights and giving me a good grounding with regard to geography for future days. Had lunch at Katz´s - deli famous for the ´When Harry met Sally´”I´ll have what she´s having scene”. Not as much horn ... read more

New York. What can we add to the endless amount written about this place? The classic white T (and coffee mug, hat, keychain and handbag) says it all really: I 3 NY We arrived from Boston on the Wednesday on our comfortable Amtrak train, a little tired, a little hot, and a lot exhausted. Penn Station proved easy enough to find our way around. The subway was a little less transparent, (in fact it was pretty grimy...) but we got there in the end, after about 3 transfers and a lot of 'Eeeeee we're in New York!!'s, yessiree! Being as it was late afternoon already, we decided to go slow on our first night, and merely took a stroll through the verdant and sunny Central Park. Again, another incredible landmark that we couldn't believe we were ... read more

Sunday 7th May. I said goodbye to some friends I had been travelling with in the morning. Its never nice to say goodbye to friends, and it really felt like my last day travelling now. I decided to hit the City again, and made my way back to the Empire State building. I bought a ticket, and went to the very top, the observary point on the 86th floor. The view across the City is absolutely amazing, you can see everything from here, it just dwarfs the other skyscrapers. And since 9/11, its now the highest tower in New York. Its claimed to be one of the wonders of the world. From there I did some shopping in Macys ( of course!! ), and then walked up to Bryants Park. Here is the main library, and ... read more

We left the campsite in Washington, the last night of camping on this trip, and drove to Philadelphia. We stopped in Philly for lunch, and again for a whirlwind look around the City, and it looks a huge place with many people. Back in the car and on the road, to the last destination of my tour, New York. I had never been to the States before, so I was particularly looking forward to coming here. We found our hostel which is close to Central Park, and the Bronx. After checking in we walked down the avenue until we reached 72nd street and the Dakota buildings. Infamous, as this is where John Lennon was murdered as he got out of his car to enter his apartment in the building. I spoke to the porter of the ... read more

States visited: 22 California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Conneticut. Okay, so we just walked in Utah at Four Corners, and we trained through Rhode Island and Conneticut on our way to New York - but I jumped out on the platform so I have touched ground! And we drove in all the others! Springfields visited: 2 Springfield, Colorado and Springfield, Illinois. Neither of them had a Shelbyville anywhere near. Neither did we see any mutant fish. State Capitals passed through: 8 Denver, Colorado; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Little Rock, Arkansas; Nashville, Tennessee; Springfield, Illinois; Montpellier, Vermont; Concord, New Hampshire; and Boston, Massachusetts. 50 Å R I N G E N!
