Untitled Lindsey and I started out our USA road trip at 9 am from Tabor. The drive to New York was beautiful, it's amazing how much you forget about mountains until you see them again. It never ceases to amaze me about how beautiful they really can be. We got to her house in Cobleskill, NY and headed right out to Cooperstown to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. We got to see Todd Helton, Phil Neikro and Tony Gwynn's memorabilia at the museum, which was great for obvious reasons. We ate at a little restaurant called the Doubleday Cafe and got our first meal of the trip! We walked around the town a little bit, making our way to the Doubleday Field where many of the first baseball games were played. Around 7 ... read more

Day 9 – Tuesday – Niagara Falls, New York Well, a little over a week in to our holiday...and we had our first big day of driving. Thankfully John has it down to a fine art (bloody Americans on the wrong side of the road!) and Jen is a great navigator. We did hit a little traffic on the way out of Boston (man they have some DUMB freeways where vehicles are both entering AND exiting right near each other and literally crossing over each other) and we did get some roadworks....but all in all it was a fun enough day considering. I think we ended up hitting our hotel by about 7pm or so, and decided to check out the falls by night. Yeh, that's right, as it was just prior to 9pm when ... read more

Day 10 – Wednesday – Niagara Falls WHAT A DAY!!!!! Well we wanted to cram as much possible in to our only full day here at Niagara so had a VERY early start. John seemed fine but Dean, Jen & I were struggling with reaching consciousness! In our quest to hit all major American fast food chains, we had Denny's for breakfast (mmmmm was good!). Then we eagerly headed to the visitor centre to buy our "passports" (tickets allowing access to a number of areas) only to be informed that a lot of it wasnt operational yet (beginning of the season....who knews) and in fact we could NOT do the "Cave of the Winds" which is where you walk nearby the falls. Hrmmph. Oh well, we bought our tickets for the Maid of the Mist ... read more

Snow Flurries, 5c Well... I've left! I might have something interesting to write about from here on in - it'll be a big few weeks before I finally arrive home exhausted. Leaving London was kinda sad. I'd grown used to not having to unpack my things and I met a great group of people who I'll miss. It's strange traveling because you can't really say 'see you later', because in all reality you know that'll never happen. So it was goodbyes all round to everyone at work and the hostel, with some final beers at the St Louis & my new favourite the Brass Door. It had become a favourite bar of mine - good music, great pool (I beat Patrick the pool shark!!) and cheap beer. Patrick & Shelley own / run the best ... read more

The cats definitely kept me warm all through the night. Dani said that it was one of the coldest nights lately but I didn’t feel such coldness. All I felt was the seediness of way too many Otter Creeks as well as combined beers from karaoke. I did all my packing last night and so did Dani so it wasn’t too long after we woke up that we began on our way at 10am. It was a perfect Saturday morning in the season of Fall, to be out. A convoy of RVs had the same idea and we were stuck behind them for about 30 miles as they cruised down the roads, having a look at all the leaves changing on all the trees by the side of the road. In all our ranting and ... read more

What a day! The falls lived up to and probably more than we expected. The weather started dull but cleared up later to give us perfect viewing conditions. We visited both the American and Canadian sides of the gorge to see the different aspects of this wonderful natural phenomenon. We saw spraybows from several different locations. We had a ride on the Maid of the Mist boat right underneath the Horseshoe Falls and got wet. We walked on the Cave of the Winds boarded walks really close to the Bridal falls, experienced their power and got soaked. We went to the tunnel behind the Horseshoe Falls and got wet again. At the end of a long expedition, we returned to Park Place bed and breakfast exhausted but happy. Th conditions weren't as misty as some of ... read more

Well, we were headed right to the falls and didn't realize it until we reached Ohio. Both of us had thought Niagra falls was soley in Canada. It was great to just watch the water build and flow over the sides, soothing, powerful, calming, and frightening. Much different than I had remembered visiting as a 5 year old. Although the boats and the rainbow were still there. Stevie, in all his Scottishness, had a hard time both entering and leaving the canada side -taken aside for questioning, pocket emptying, almost the works. For me? they didn't even look at my ID! Just told me to take a seat and wait for him. Never know what those Scotsmen are up to...... read more

"It is a spot reserved and sacred to what divine power has already placed there" Frederick Law Olmstead (landscape guy who designed Central park and Niagara Falls Reservation) "Oooooooh ... Watery" Liam James Crouse (idiot) Land, Tierra, Hat Land, çåìëÿ. Water, Agua, Acqua, Vann. Life, Vida, Het Leven, æèçíü. Confused? Frustrated? We were, this was the opening sequence to an 11 min 'informative' film on Niagara falls. So it began "Land, water, life" (did someone say Captain Planet, remember that oh so poor superhero? He had the ability to clean things up and ... that was it), narrated by a woman who by her very OTT performance was desperate to be the next big thang in the voice over industry. Every syllable and every word enunciated and dramatically delivered to the point of shut the hell ... read more
