Cummy logging off from Niagara Falls.... read more

Niagara falls NY is contra to what I thought a poor town where you shouldn't walk outdoors alone after 9 PM if you value your live and credit card. It was pretty much deserted when we arrived and whilst walking towards our hotel hoping to find a bus stop going in that direction we finally stopped a taxi because although there are bus stops in Niagara, there don't seem to be buses. Later were told by Joe the taxi driver that if you are lucky you can catch a bus every 5 hours and once every 24 hours on Sundays. :)) We dropped our luggage of at the hotel and went out to find the Falls to get a glimpse of the it in the dark. Just by following the roaring sound of the falling water ... read more

Day 10 – 5/2/11 We had the alarm set for 8.30, so we could explore the Niagara area, including Canada!! We walked straight for the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the USA and Canada. We walked across, stopping for photos at the line between the countries, then went through Canadian customs, which was super easy, and all they did was stamp our passport! Once we were officially in Canada, we had a quick browse around, in search for some breakfast – and some Canadian dollars! My thoughts on Canada, or Niagara at least, were that it was all quite tacky, and showy… It reminded me a bit of Surfer’s Paradise because of all the wax museums, and a Ripley’s, and all these haunted houses… It was all a little bit surreal. We found an atm which was ... read more

Got up at 9am to pack my bag and get ready to leave and meet Carl at the airport, where we would be flying Buffalo, so we could visit Niagara Falls! My shuttle to the airport wasn’t coming until 1.45pm, but I was taking my time to do everything, so it was just about right! I said my goodbye’s to Madi, headed downstairs to wait for my shuttle, and was out the front watching a car which was stuck in the middle of the road, in the snow and ice, unable to move. Half an hour later, I was still waiting, and starting to freak out a little that I was going to be stranded, when finally the shuttle driver walked up to me, and told me he’d parked on the next street, as he couldn’t ... read more

Today was a big day. Our son-in-law Chris turned 40, Jim Nussbaum turned 60 and my nephew Landon and Kim got married. So Don and I decided that we would celebrate by going to Niagara Falls! This was one of the things on our list when we started out that we were both really looking forward to because neither one of us had been here before. Therefore we were going to get to experience it for the first time together. It is nice visiting the area after Labor Day because the crowds have all gone home. It is like someone flipped a switch and suddenly all the places are empty. We pulled into the parking lot and we were literally one of about 20 cars in a parking lot that holds about 250. It was great! ... read more

The trip to the park where I was staying in Lockport, New York ran very close to the Erie Canal and, as the name suggests, a section of the locks system is close by. My first day however, was ear-marked for Niagara Falls. I knew I wanted to take a ride on the "Maid of the Mist" and see as much of both the American Falls and the Horseshoe Falls as I could. What a treat. Niagara is right up there with Crater Lake as one of the most exciting places I have visited. I picked up a flyer for a 15 mile trip down the Erie Canal and took that opportunity too. Another great experience. The purpose of the canal was to link New York with the undeveloped land to the west. The canal links ... read more

Day 3 started early. Again. Surprisingly despite not being at all a morning person this hasn't been a problem for me so far. I must still be on another time zone. This time it was off to Penn Station to find our train for the nine and a half hour journey to Niagara Falls. The time went by surprisingly quickly, thanks to plenty of leg room and a bit of a nap along the way for some. After arriving at Niagara Falls, collecting the car and working out how on earth to fit all our luggage in, we checked into the very nice Holiday Inn and set out for our first look at the American side of the falls. Looking over the side of the lookout we spotted an ant like stream of people in bright ... read more
