Posted by: Onaxthiel: In honor of Halloween I hammered out a Lovecraftian (very) short story. If you like HP Lovecraft, hopefully this makes sense. If you are not a fan, it may not make any sense at all. In that case, feel free to ignore this one as it has nothing to do with the drive. Since ancient times the natives had claimed that one of their heathen gods lived beneath the curtain of the falls. While modern man has placed his faith in science and scoffed at the superstitions of his forebearers, it is undeniable that many people still feel a call of something primal and mysterious from the cascades. So did my brother and I determine that we should make the trip to the small town of Niagara, a place removed some miles from ... read more

I took a trip to Niagara Falls in 2004 while visiting some friends. I had always thought that this site might be a little overrated and hyped. But, after being there I changed my mind. Yes, it is touristy but the falls really are amazing.... read more

Dear Road Warrior Want-to-be, Another 3 state day thanks to our founding fathers' sons & grandsons, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York are all very close if you stay up north. So. for the 2nd time it was breakfast in Medina Ohio, coffee in Penn, lunch at Dunkirk Lighthouse in NY, and dinner at Niagara Falls. I realized that it could have been dinner in Canada as we are that close to the boarder. We are very used to tall lighthouses on the west coast and even those we've seen on the Atlantic, but a lighthouse on Lake Erie is not very big. I'm sure its beacon is just as important to barges & boats on a big lake, but its grandeur leaves a little to be desired. Not so with Niagara Falls! WOW! Ellyse and Lexie ... read more

Another very early day today but we were too excited to care what time we got up. After getting ready and packing the van we left the campsite on the way to Niagara Falls. It was a good five hour drive until we got to Niagara Falls and when we got there first thing we did is have lunch. Jon was insistent that we did not go get a sneak peak at the falls before we all went to have a look. But Ben just couldn’t help himself when he went to the bathroom he had to look. While we ate lunch, Jon told us that for the second half of the tour we’d have two extra people joining our group. He didn’t have their names yet but knew they were both female and one was ... read more

From New York we made our way up into North Pennsylvania, and ended up staying the night at a camp site in Mansfield. Little did we realize that we had happened upon none other than “Bucktail’s Family Fun Park”, with a working antique carousel, mini trains, cable ride, fishing ponds and a really cool mini golf course (Tom didn’t seem to be too interested in that to start with, but I talked him around and he ended up really enjoying it - probably because I let him win!). Slightly bizarre was the signed guitar and poster of The Bloodhound Gang in the children’s games room though… Another night, another camp site - this time in North West New York, at the Four Mile Creek camp ground, with spectacular sunset views over Lake Ontario to Toronto. (Interesting ... read more

I went to Niagara Falls for a weekend. It was great. The weather was warm to not hot. I did all the tourist things. I must suggest if one goes there to get up early because the crowds come and then the lines are very long. ... read more

We left Raynham, MA this morning and arrived in Niagara Falls this afternoon. It is even more beautiful than I remember from 20 years ago, but Dave was a bit disappointed - he though the falls would be much bigger than they were. We had a great walk around the Falls and Goat Island. We are camped tonight in Brant, NY - right on Lake Erie - It is beautiful. We are out sitting at a campfire, enjoying our first night on the road. ... read more

NYChristoph Hall Dusk in Northwestern Pennsylvania is beautiful. The skies were painted pink by the sun on a white and grey pallet of storm clouds rising miles into the sky. We drove under clear skies as the storm slipped off to the north. I've seen a good portion of Pennsylvania and really enjoy it. After the wallet incident last night everyone could breath easy. I stayed outside late last night and took video of the lightning in the clouds before sleeping in the bus. The intention was to watch the Michael Moore movie but everyone was too tired We woke and decided to ask a Chinese restaurant if we could take some of their grease. Laurie spoke with them but they spoke little English and said to come back later when the daughter was there. While ... read more
