So in preparation for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (which I start on June 1) my friend Tom O'Donnell and I took my uncle John's canoe out for a nice outing along the Sebasticook, we put in a couple of miles after the damn and started our way towards the very lazy, very windy, very wide Sebasticook river. The black fly hatch was pretty bad that day and I actually ended up wearing a head net to keep them from devouring my face. But what can you expect in late May in the middle of bug season. The trip is pretty sweet and there are a couple of Class II rips in the river that are fun to go down, but MAN is the river slow in parts. It was like canoing a large freaking lake! ... read more

Its official. I have my ticket in hand. I bought it at Dube Travel and they were about $200 cheaper than the cheapest internet site. More money for the orphanage. Its non refundable. Don't worry, I bought travelers insurance. You never know. I fly out of Boston on Thursday June 19 at 12:45pm. I am still waiting for my visa from the Ugandan Embassy. It should be here anyday now. My ankle is doing better, getting stronger everyday. I am just giddy with excitement to be there in Africa with the children. I am forever grateful to God on how He has worked all thing together for this trip(His good.). Rachel thank you for the contact info and letting me know about the uv light for the water bottles. Thats all for now, I will keep ... read more

I have now bought all the train tickets I need. Today I order San Diego to Merced, and Fort Worth to Boston. We'll be getting into Boston at 9pm. I probably won't be able to find a kid willing to come get me at 11 or midnight, so we may spend the night in Boston or Portland and ask for a pickup in the morning. I have one hotel reservation left to make, in Merced. Brian found something, but I didn't have time to double check the info. Last chore will be to reserve a car in Sacramento and Merced. I hate the hertz site.... read more

So.... as April 16th, my trip to Jordan and Egypt this coming August are set in stone. I will be traveling to Jordan on a WorldQuest volunteer project and will be there for two weeks. I will be living in Amman with a host family and working at a vocational school helping to teach english. I will be in Amman from August 16th through the 30th. WorldQuest so far has been incredible. At first, it seemed a little disorganized but that's just the website. Once I was registered and ready to go, I was contacted by the Africa and Middle East Correspondant, Stefanie, and she really put me at ease. They're amazingly friendly and seem to really want me to be happy on my trip. I really feel like I'm going to fit in well with ... read more

I've bought more train tickets. This time down the California Coast. We're spending three days in San Diego. Sea World and the zoo are on tap. Maybe a trip to Mexico. Maybe Kelsie will join us. We're probably taking the train home as well. I haven't bought those tickets yet. I did get a hotel room in Sacramento. The 13 mile taxi ride from the train station is going to be expensive, but the hotel is right near the car rental place. I talked to my Uncle last night and he'll take us to the train station if we come home that way. I talked to all my cousins who all say they're looking forward to seeing me. It's been 30 years since I've seen a couple of them! ... read more

Back In Maine I have been back in Maine since February 17th. I don’t know why I haven't written much since coming home, I guess I am just lazy. Things have been going alright. Sandra arrived in Boston on April 8th. It was so great to see her. We were only apart for 7 weeks, but it felt like years. Since she was been here, we have had much fun together. I have showed her the Maine Coast, Maine’s Largest City (Portland), and last weekend we went up to Quebec with my brother Josh and his Fiancé. I thought about Richard a lot while we were there. It would have been nice to have him there, considering about 95% of the people are French Speaking. Anyway, I will try to post more on my blog so ... read more

Packed like sardines in a large tin can, the airport shuttle carried us to the Amsterdam airport, where we attempted to check in at the airline kiosk. To our surprise, we were not assigned seats next to one another. The prospect of sitting apart for over 8 hours was not very appealing, so we made inquiries at the luggage drop. We explained that we had around the world tickets on a single reservation number and couldn’t understand why did not have seats next to one another. The lady was quite friendly and said she would note this on the computer and that we should speak to the person at the gate. When we finally arrived at the gate, we were prepared to explain all of this, but the lady had already taken care of the tickets ... read more

Hey all, sorry its been a while, seem to have been busy, and its pretty difficult to get online sometimes! We finished up in New York last week and then moved onto Niagara Falls for a couple of days, stayed at a hostel that seemed more like someones house. The lady that owned it was lovely though, really helpful. Niagara Falls is beautiful, just like nothing iv ever seen before, it really is cold this farnorth though, went for a walk on the evening that we got into Niagara, never been so cold, am told that it was about minus 10C, braved it for a couple of hours anyway. Was so strange to see a river like Niagara frozen over (ice about 6ft thick in places!). Went to supermarket and bought a microwavable Calzone, our landlady ... read more
