Well. I had planned to write a lot more and a lot more often but being a mostly non technological camp and lately having activities morning noon and night has meant, sitting on my laptop for hours hasn't really been a common occurrence. I have been at my camp locale by the lake since June 2nd and it has been absolutely beautiful and fun and sometimes stressful and I may or may not have cried one day when I was running late and I didn't get time to make my bed and could not find any clean socks. When I got here after my long series of flights and bus rides, I wafted with an upbeat delirium to go on a road trip through 3 states to the hills of beautiful Vermont to go and choose ... read more

We made a quick stop at the garden located on scenic loop, said hi to the frogs, and then headed over to Beehive trail. To get to the trailhead we had to go to Sand Beach and walk to the other side of the beach. There were a lot more people than the first day we came but the fog condition was slightly the same. Beehive trail is considered difficult trail because of the steepness and cliff you have to climb on. We walked passed the entrance to the trail so we had to walk back a bit. From the point approaching the trailhead, there was a group of hikers chitchatting and pointing up the mountains to hikers who were climbing up on the cliff. They were literally on the cliff. It didn't take long from the ... read more

It's hiking day on Acadia Mountain Trail. The beginning of the trail was largely covered with trees so it was shady but not cool. It was pretty hot today. Even though the initial part of the trail was a gradual ascent, the heat was too unbearable that we had to make a few stops to catch our breath. And during that time, I discovered that we should get a hell out of the shade as soon as possible. The biggest mosquito I had ever seen landed on my arm attempting to get some lunch from me. I quickly smashed it, and then more came so we at that point hurried up the mountain to get away from all these blood sucking creatures. It was definitely hot and humid and I kept thinking how far were we ... read more

After about 5 hours or so from Jackson, NH and we were in Bar Harbor, Maine. On the way there, I noticed road signs showing distance in kilometer. I guess because Maine is the last state in the northeast of the US before you get to Canada where they use kilometer. We arrived in Bar Harbor around mid afternoon so after checking in at our motel, Acadia Pines-cheap and very clean, we drove about 3 miles to the visitor center. map- checked, plan discussion-checked and then off we went to Acadia scenic loop. Cadillac Mt. was our first stop. We drove up to the summit. It was a clear day so it was nice. Wind was really working hard making it difficult for me to keep my tripod still plus keeping myself warm. I eventually had ... read more

Well the last couple of days have truly been adventurous. After finishing the floating down the Nulhegan we hoped into the Connecticut river. There is a sweet class two wave during high water if you take the left off from where the river "forks" in three different directions. When I say forks I mean you can either go left, right, or straight. I've never seen a river do that before in my life. We took the left and got to run a nice class II wave. By the end of the day we had made it up a good chunk of the Amonoosuc to Groveton, NH. Now because of all the rain we had this last week the rivers were all flowing high and fast and it was tough making it up the Amonoosuc. Thankfully we ... read more

Day Five Todays breakfast: doughnuts. Only in America. Luckily, to augment these was the best breakfast option yet. A fruit bar from where one could choose a mix of blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, two types of melon, apples, kiwis and grapes – all topped off with soured yoghurt. Talk about a contrast. After a horrible hour of unloading the campers bags from three large trucks, went to the computer room, and waited for lunch. At 12:30, the designated time, there was no sign of anyone downstairs. perplexed, but putting it down to the catering staff being off for the day, i headed back upstairs and carried on with my work. Fast forward an hour, and still no sign. I wandered outside to discover that lunch had been on the grass – f—king typical! Was therefore hungry until ... read more

Les effluves ... read more

Met super people, Capt Paul, Airforce, and wife Janet while in NJ. Then we headed to Maine , "Boondocked" at LLBean in Freeport Maine. Did some shopping. Then off to the Acadia National Forest. Bar Harbor had lobster pounds along side the road where you could steam lobster at a picnic table. Bar Harbor, where the New England rich folks hang out, is a unique seaport. Wish we could whale watch but the weather was rainy and rough, and we had Princess with us. Scoped out Stephen King's home in Bangor, Maine. Liked the gargoyle-iron grate fence. Heading to Boston for grandaughter Megan's surgery on June 16. Boston Children's has done 38 of such surgery's since 1999 according to the Internet.
