HI, this is Kevin. We are going to leave on vacation at 5 in the morning tomorrow. I cannot wait because we are going to Purdue first. It is going to be the best day of my life. We each get $20 for vacation and we get to spend it all and when we run out we run out and we can't buy anything else. I have $40 to spend because of the Super Summer Challenge. I'm going to see Mark, Luke and Ava. It is going to be the best. Hi, my name is Brandon. We are going to go on vacation tomorrow, when it is in the morning. We are leaving at 5 in the morning. The first place is Purdue and it is going to be a fun day. Hello, my name is ... read more

The Price Kids would like to introduce themselves: KARYN- I'm eleven. I like to draw, write, climb, and swim. Traveling is fun and I'm looking forward to Niagara Falls and seeing our old neighbors again! Hopefully we will all have a great time on our trip up the East Coast. Thank the Lord we have a new car...otherwise we undoubtedly wouldn't make it all the way. I'll try to tell you everything about our trip that I can! Have a good week. RYAN- I'm ten and I like sports all of them. Everybody else wanted to fly to the northeast, but I don't like flying, so I begged my mom to drive so we are. I'm looking forward to seeing our old neighbors in Philly. I'm happy we got a new car, if we didn't we ... read more

Well, here it is. I'm packed except for my computer. I've got my boarding pass and travel documents. Everything's charged and I've called Bank of America so they don't hold my accounts. I'm surprisingly unstressed. But I am a little hungry. See you kids on the other side!... read more

24 hours from now I'll be at the airport, either in line for security or through security so fast, it makes you wonder why they tell you to get there 2 hours early. Doing laundry now and beginning the packing process. How do you pack for 6 weeks? How will I be able to account for every eventuality? At least it'll be pretty consistently HOT. With some thunderstorms thrown in. So that decreases the mass of the items I'm packing. Oh lord. I'm going to be in Italy for 6 weeks. Who thought this was a good idea? So I was thinking the other day, in my entire life, I have only been in two places for 6 weeks or more: Illinois and Connecticut. My third locale is going to be Italy. I'm moving progressively east. ... read more

Well, I got my Euros yesterday (thanks BoA), I got my Italian cell phone (thanks Eliza!), my passport is in order and I have a sweet hat, so I guess this is actually happening. I have to finalize my enrollment in the classes offered at the dig, you know... by paying... but other than that, I just have to get my butt to the airport on time. I'm realizing more and more that I'm probably a little bit screwed. Maybe that's the fear talking, but I don't speak the language, I won't know anyone on the continent and I have limited financial resources. Fun times. I got the list of excavation participants the other day, and the only other students staying for 6 weeks are boys, so I'm hoping I get my own room. And that ... read more

Just called the bursar to pay my tuition, and the slow-talkin' Georgian lady I spoke to said I owe out-of-state tuition. Something around $2000. I was told I would pay in-state, totaling $804. O, bureaucracy, how do I love thee?... read more

Well I got my visa. It was surprisingly easy. I decided that consulates are very good representations of countries. The Chinese consulate in New York was large and had marble and granite as the main construction material. The French consulate in Chicago was naturally smaller than New York, but it also had a whole different feel to it. Still bureaucratic, but with more opportunities to interact with the officials. And the decorations were more plush, modern and vibrant than the Chinese consulate. And there was almost nobody there. I was very surprised. Overall it was a good day. Mom and I got there at 9am and were out by 9:30am. Then we walked over to Marshall Field's to pay our last respects, and were lucky enough to eat breakfast at the Walnut Room, without much wait. ... read more

Well here's my first entry- yay. I still haven't gotten my visa, but I refuse to worry. It's Christmas time after all. I think I'll head down to the consulate on the 28th. Which means I need to get the visa app filled out in duplicate and get some horrid pictures taken. Ah, there's nothing like preparing for a trip. There's nothing like getting ready for a journey. First there's the abstract "Hooray, I'm going somewhere!" But after awhile and the time draws closer for your departure it becomes "Holy crap, i'm going somewhere!" Most of the time you can hold off the panic with packing and changing currencies and buying nifty travel gadgets. But the night before you leave and everything is done and you're putting away your toothbrush for the last time, that's when ... read more
