Hey Everyone! We headed to Chicago for a long weekend over Easter with Tara, Daniel and Rock. Daniel is playing for a Rugby club there for a few months so gave us a good excuse to get to the States for a quick trip. Chicago is a great City and we even got sunny weather which was a welcome treat after nearly a year in Dublin! We got to see the Chicago Bulls, the White Sox and the the Black Hawks which was great, they all won too! We spent one day out in the suburbs watching Dans rugby, they had a great win and we got through a few boxes of beer in the sun during the afternoon. I did manage to get a bit of shopping in amongst all the sporting events thank goodness, ... read more

Flight AA37 American Airlines takes off a little late toward south over Glattbrugg (or as we used to say in a literal translation -- Slippery Bridge). Familiar with the airport and the departing routes of all the aircrafts in the area I know that it will make a left turn shortly after. Well, I do not expect to see my mother's house on the other side of the forest, the house I spent most of my childhood by the way, because the turn will be made too early for that. But I was hoping to have a view at my last residence in Kloten, though. Now guess what? Because it's cloudy this morning just seconds after the start we are flowing into the first tattered shreds of low clouds. That's exactly the point why I want ... read more

....Continued After arriving home from the hockey on Tuesday night, we found Sam fresh from a band rehersal and wanting to further educate us by having us watch the original Blue Brothers movie in Chicago. So we did. And got to bed bright and early on Wednesday morning. This of course necessitated a sleep in, and a morning catching up on couch potato-ism. Pasta for breakfast was the correct start to the day, and we both actually ate shrimp - although we decided that Mark should have most of them cos he actually likes them. While Juliet burned photos to CD and wrote in her diary, Jenny caught up on emails and Mark shot a large number of enemy soldiers on his computer, and we all agreed it was a thoroughly productive day. A snack on ... read more

Yesterday I was informed that my manager's last day would be Friday!!! This really throws a wrench in my plans. Original intent was to give my thirty day notice next week. I now have the unpleasant job of informing the VP (today) that I intend to move on as well. I will work my schedule around such that I can stay through mid July rather than the end of May. I hate it when I am too loyal. It’s a good thing that the Visa has gone through and that there is no way of changing the three month window for departure date. ... read more

Well, its late and i'm super tired, but i will startwriting tonight and finish in the morning before all of my events and thoughts leave me. Good luck to all to find that break. One quick thing, I failed to tell you all about Markuz's 3 second dream. He was driving. At a red light....but still. He look a deep breath, looked at me and said "Woh...i just had a 3 second dream." Luckily i kept him awake for the 1 block we had to drive to the hotel. The real question is, how many times has this happened? Anyways... Our shows consisted of 4 Dorothy's, 4 Shakespeares, and one Mozart. Of course we had a really good time doing our Shakespeare's...my favorite show. At our tuesday school, the faculty was ridiculous. Cutting across Kentucky after leaving Tennessee, we found a detour to a pair of long thin lakes, separated by a strip of land just a couple of miles wide, so crossing Lake Barkley, we stopped at the Land Between the Lakes Park for lunch and windshield bug removal. A very pretty area, we just couldn't stay long because of the oppressive heat - over 90 degrees! Moving on we crossed Kenlake (Lake Kentucky) and rejoined the interstate. From here it was just a couple of hours to Illinois, which we entered from the South, over the Ohio River. Mt Vernon Motel 6 was our home for the night, and Wendy's super value menu again provided our dinner (salad and baked potaoes, plus an obligatory burger each.) The next afternoon saw us on our way west to ... read more

Navigating our way through the myriad interweaving freeways which form the central nervous system of the metropolis of Chicago, we found our way through the dusky skyscrapers surrounding us, and with a little luck and our cellphone travel guide handy, we fought our way through traffic to find that Chicago miracle-of-miracles, a spare carpark at Mark's apartment. Pulling in, we were greeted with hearty welcomes from the balcony above, and like a human cannonball Mark sped down the stairs and administered much needed hugs, and as we wearily and gladly got out of the car our host for the next week was already pulling our bags out of the car, what an angel! Up two flights of stairs (we didn't set the neighbours huge black alarm-dog off this first time) were comfy sofas, the widest flat ... read more

Our spring break was the best ever. I had so much fun. I met New friends, and I had the chance to help some families that needed our help. We should do this again sometime. After 17 hours in the van I am kinda sad that our trip is over already. Dawn Prevatke... read more
