My first day in Chicago...(i've been here before but it has been a while.) My Flight left Alaska at 9:50pm last night 6/5, that flight is always too long it feels like it just wont end! I couldn't sleep at all. I had a flight change in Minneapolis and was on my way to Chicago, just an hour flight from Minneapolis. I slept almost the whole hour. I arrived here at 8:30am Monday am. Grabbed the Airport Express Shuttle and was at the hotel an hour and a half later! I was the last one on the shuttle to get dropped off, at least I wasn't driving in the rush hour here. The Tremont hotel...old hotel, fine but not recommended to others for the price. I met my group at 1:30pm at the Field Museum we ... read more

I visited Chicago for the first time over Memorial Day Weekend. My main purpose for visiting the city was to see the U.S. play England in an international soccer friendly but I also saw a lot of the sites. The skyscrapers were amazing I have never seen anything quite like it (I was too young to remember my trip to NYC). Upon my return I had to write a story about my trip for my Writing Across the Media class. The story really sums up the sights and sounds of my time in Chicago. CHICAGO - The voices that rose above the screeching of metal of the L train had a distinct accent to them. The words that carried across the tracks were “cheers” and “mate”. Closing your eyes, you would have thought you were riding ... read more

The 'summer season' starts out with Linda and me taking a trip to Chicago, one of our new favorite cities! Our hotel was the Hyatt, conveniently located on the Miracle Mile. We flew in Friday, checked into our hotel, and then headed to Rush Street for drinks and dinner at Le Colonial. The food there was delicious! Afterwards we wandered down Rush Street trying to decide which of the many bars to visit, and decided upon Syn, where we immediately made several new friends. The drinks were flowing, the vibe upbeat and fun, and the dance music 70s and 80s. It was a good choice. The next day we walked along the Miracle Mile, taking in the sights along the way, did some shopping and had lunch at Watertower Place. Then we hopped on a trolley ... read more

Hmmm, tiddley in Spain at the mo, so excuse this entry if a bit scatty........ Headed to Chicago and being a complete architecture strumpet, spent two days running about with eyes averted heavenward, taking numerous piccies of buildings. It is a spectacular city, wide boulevards... very Al Capone..... fabulous buildings and shopping, that I couldn´t quite afford. The people seemed fairly nice and I pattered in numerous blues bars, sampling the local culture but truly spent most of the time hungint buildings. The studio and home of Frank lloyd Wright were a particular highlight and the neighbourhoods out towards the area he resided in were full of extremely twee tudor style homes, with tyre swings, baseball parks and beautiful spring trees. Incredibly inspiring and Lake Michigan is massive!!!! They have planetariums and the enormous Navy Pier, ... read more
