So to be frankly honest I've never used one of these before. However, I do get an inordinate amount of pleasure wasting time reading random people's "blogs" and hope to instill a bit of that in you. Although, I may not be able to produce the writing quality of some of the most entertaining blogs that I have read I am confident that the raw material I have to work with will be fairly entertaining. Erin and I spent a nice long weekend visiting my brother and his girlfriend in Miami Beach this past weekend and now I'm just getting everything finalized so that I can leave the country for a few months without too much looming over my head. Feel free to e-mail me in person at m-tibbitt@northwestern.edu, and I will write back it's just ... read more

Well had many adventures and stories since my last blog. Far too many to mention here! The highlights were attempting to get from China Town in downtown NYC to my hotel in uptown NYC with the aide of two Italians - an English teacher and her daughter! Finally made it then went out for a few beers with my room mate for the night and got chatted up by Kevin the stage hand in a real locals bar which we happened to come across. Made it out unscathed! Picked up my tour and so far have been to Niagra Falls walked across to Canada for a meal and a night at Hard Rock night club (nearly didn't get back into the US as the two Toms had forgotten their Ds2019's!) and am now in Chicago. Having ... read more

The summer coming to a close is synonymous with the upcoming year coming near. Very early in the morning on September 4 I will be flying out of O’Hare heading to Newark, NJ, and eventually to Ben Gurion Air Port in Tel Aviv. That will be the beginning of my year in Israel with Carmel. I will be studying both at the University of Haifa and the Lokey Academy of Jewish Studies--a progressive beit midrash. In addition, I will participate in volunteer projects and travel around the country. I look forward to everything that is to come!... read more

So it's my last day in Evanston making last minute preparations for Africa and hanging out with the J3 boys. I got my perscription for 135 malaria pills, secured a bed for my apartment in the Fall, dyed my hair brown with hopes to blend in a little more, researched my internship in San Francisco next summer, and bought way too many knee-length skirts for Ghana. I am so happy I got to spend almost two weeks here. Evanston and Chicago are incredible places in the summer. It's the first time I've ever been able to walk down the streets of Evanston completely stress free. I leave tomorrow for Wisconsin for a 5 day sailing trip on Lake Superior around the Apostle Islands with my crazy extended family on two 50 foot chartered sail boats. There's ... read more

For a long time before this trip, I had a preconceived image of what each city would be like. Chicago was one of those cities that I thought could not possibly be too interesting. I was so wrong. This is a city with atmosphere and the city has so much going on you could easily spend several weeks here alone. The city serves a wide variety of interests in music, food and theatre. Centred just off the downtown area is a lake. That like St Kilda is feels distant enough to be a completely different place, but is only walking distances from the heart of the city. The day I arrived there was a street festival in this parkland. At first glance it seems that people are much more friendly. I have to be cautious with ... read more

Hello from Chicago! As well as being the windy city, it's also been the hot city (37c) and the wet city (p***ing it down!) We have had some fun here though, Lollapalooza Festival was excellent - but very, very hot - needed lots of beer to keep us both cool! We have done some touristy stuff here as well such as vistiting the zoo, and ascending the top floors of both the Sears Tower and The John Hancock Building. The food here is fantastic! Chicago hot dogs are better than New York's and the Pizza Pie we had the other night was as delicious as it was humungous!!! It's our last day here - we get the overnight train to Memphis tonight - so we're making good use of the free internet at our hotel. There ... read more

Chicago Well after an enjoybale 12 hour Greyhound trip from Mack Island to Chicago, I was well in the knowledge of how "Scott" from Michigan's U.P. has lived his entire life, from start to finish, including when, where (and how) he met his now wife, when (not quite where and how) they got their 2 kids, how his job as a truck driver sucks and he was en route to a new job. Also how the relationship has been on the rocks for the past 6 months...need i go on? WHY DO PEOPLE ON THE GREYHOUND INSIST ON TELLING YOU THEIR LIFE STORY WHEN YOU JUST WANT TO GO TO SLEEP!!!!! Day 1 Anyway...Chicago was amazing! Again. Arrived early Mon morn and couldnt check into the hostel so wandered around for a while...went to see Buckingham ... read more

We were out having dinner at a Mexican restaurant and Julia (a local) told me she was going to Chicago on the weekend. So I hit her up to take us (Sara-Denmark, Aika-Kasakstan & Nastia-Russia) as well, and it was set we were going to Chicago! We left camp Friday after the we got rid of all the kids and after a 5 hour drive we got there (and we gained a hr in time difference) and went to the hostel. That night we made a few friends (Denmark chicks & a few U.S lads) and had a few sly drinks out the front porch. Because there was no drinking at the hostel, yer crazy I now!! After an hr or 2 sleep we got up to hit downtown & a whole lot of shopping. 3 ... read more

We had so much fun today. We rolled into Chicago early in the morning. I had never been here before so I was really excited to explore the city. We first went for breakfast where I had the best chocolate chip pancakes ever. Then we took the subway downtown. I was super excited to go shopping after not being in civilization for a few days. Ian and I hit a bunch of the shops. I went slightly crazy at H&M, but that place is so cheap who wouldn't. Then we headed down to see a bunch of the famous buildings. We went to the Chicago Tribune building which is studded with over 120 stones from famed sites and structures in all 50 states and dozens of foreign countries. They range from the Parthenon (Greece) and Taj ... read more
