Forget preludes about “written on the Hound” etc – this is from the Thunderbird Inn directly across the road from the Hound in Savannah. With the luxury of an extra night here which I decided this morning I have simply not really gone out all day but plotted in some detail the next few days as I only have 11 days more or less. After a bit of an allnighter after too many beers/shooters with Brandon I fell asleep on and off in bed and did not get up until almost noon – to get some Krispy Kreme donuts from the Thunderbird office to go with my in-room brew coffee. Then planned on the Net my next 4 days up until Atlanta – hotel for 1 night in Charleston, Sth Carolina after going there early (leave ... read more

9-30-10 Wandered over to the marina this morning. The couple in the trailer parked next to us was fishing off an old boat docked there. Turns out the guy who owns the RV Park also owns both that boat and Mr. Garwin’s personal craft...bright turquoise blue!! The couple was born and raised in the area. They spoke of the BP fiasco, and of course, hadn’t received a penny from them!! Sounded like BP was in Carabelle in full force and did make some payouts...didn’t sound like any of the locals actually received any funds, tho’...typical! Headed for the Georgia border just north of Jacksonville, FL today. A lot of driving, and when we arrived, we found out you can’t park overnight in their rest areas. Too far to head for Savannah, so finally found a Flying ... read more

Oh how dreams change. While in college I had dreams of going to law school, working as a corporate lawyer until I could pay off my debt, then becoming a lobbyist for child advocacy. However, two years of student loan payments and miserable desk job hours later, I can no longer ignore the fact that I was not made to be a lawyer or sit behind a desk. I was made to live the dream. And my dream is to to own my own organic honeybee and veggie farm with my best friends. My dream is to travel and live out of a car and see the whats out there. My dream is to be an adventurer. Meeting my boyfriend really helped set these dreams into action. He not only brings out my travel itch, be ... read more

Savannah, Georgia, is a city with a rich history. Slavery, civil war, shipping and Girl Scouts, it's all happened here! We stayed about 15 miles out of town in a cheap motel so we drove in and parked at the Visitors Centre. It was 100 degrees and sunny so we needed to take it easy!! The Visitors Centre is located in the old railway station and they provided us with some maps and a guide to the free bus service which loops around the historic centre. The free bus covers more or less the same route as the trolley buses but you don't get a view or a commentary! That's fine as we just wanted to use it to save our legs a bit and get to Forsyth Park where we saw the huge fountain and ... read more

We woke up early on Monday so that we could get as much time in the city center as possible. After reading reviews on line we went to B.Mitchells for breakfast, the location close to the river and white chocolate banana bread french toast lured us in and was worth the visit. The staff brought a table outside for us and a bowl of water for Lola. We had read that Savannah was a dog friendly town but it is an understatement, they love dogs and so many people stopped to play with Lola, she just ate up the attention. After breakfast we went down to the river in search for the candy store River Street Candy Store to pick up a few treats for the folks in Miami. Then we headed to Lady and Sons, ... read more

Geo: 32.0808, -81.0907Our walking tour began at 10 AM and lasted about 2 hours. The guide was very informative and had lots of interesting facts about Savannah. It was a small group of 9 people so.easy to hear what was said. Savannah was established in 1733 by James Edward Oglethorpe and a group of English settlers. The historic part of the city (the largest in the US) is designed around 21 squares with housing on 2 sides of the square and service and administrative buildings on the other 2 sides. The predominant tree is the Live Oak which at this time is dropping pollen to the point that it could be scraped up with shovel. Savannah and surrounding areas are known as the Low Country. Savannah grew to be a bustling port with architecture reflecting a ... read more
