It’s 6am I haven’t sleep more than 3 hours, why I don’t know... it’s the whole thing about going on vacation the next morning. I’ve checked the flights, all looks good; we even have tickets to ATL to make our life easier. I guess I’m just excited to be sitting in E-concourse and having a Sweetwater 420. We’re packed, I’ve loaded the car with our suit cases, provided all the necessary people with all the passwords and instructions, just in case. You never know. Kirsten has gone through the check list multiple times, each time I find something missing, toothbrush, hearing aid batteries, passport you know minor items to get me through TSA. Ok, we’re loaded and, on our way, to pick up OMI. She is waiting outside her condo tapping her foot wanting to know ... read more

Well, it's been over a month since I've returned to Ecuador. It's been a busy month and the travelblog website has had some glitches, but enough of excuses. The second half of my US visit blog entry is waayyy overdue! It's been 12 years since I moved away from Atlanta and over 7 years since I’d been back east for a visit...so, I scheduled ample time to reconnect with old friends. It's amazing how even though the years pass, we pick up where we left off. My friends and I haven't aged at all, but their kids sure have grown up -- how does that work?! I had lined up a rental car to pick up at the Loews hotel not far from a MARTA station, so upon returning from Florida I took the train from ... read more

Left my red truck (Scarlett O'Sare) parked in a friend's garage near Quito, and my taxi arrived just after midnight to get me to the airport in time for my 4:30 am flight. All went smoothly with my COPA connection in Panama City and, as always, I enjoyed catching up on old movies on the long leg of the flight (PTY to LAX is over 6 hours). My plane actually arrived in LA early, I sailed through immigration, my suitcase was the first one off the baggage carousel, and I was waved thru customs -- which meant I had to wait a bit curbside for my niece to swing by and pick me up. Jenna and her family just moved west from NY, much to my sister's delight! Jenna and I hurried to the babysitter's house...and ... read more

Leaving Atlanta – Monday July 2, 2018 It’s 6 AM and I feel this gentle rub on my leg, I open my eyes and I see Kirsten’s smiling face starring into mine saying. We’re on vacation and we have flights to catch. I smile... knowing Kirsten has given me every moment of extra sleep knowing it going to be a long day. I’m in and out of the shower in record time and were on our way to pick up Omi. So, for this adventure Kirsten has swapped houses, yep your read that correctly. About 18 month’s ago, Kirsten listed us on some web site called Homelink.org. She has been getting requests daily, ok maybe not daily but weekly …seriously. So, she accepted a request from a couple in France located in the Loire Valley “Thus ... read more

The drive from Interlachen FL to Atlanta Marietta RV Resort in Marietta GA, just northwest of Atlanta, was 379 miles and would take 6 hours, 2 minutes according to Google Maps. I had already hooked the Ram to the Bighorn so I had minimal “prep to travel” tasks in the morning. That preparation is vital whenever I want to get an early start – and an early start would be essential if I were to get through Atlanta metro before the afternoon rush hour. I managed to get on the road a few minutes before 6 AM on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 with my first cup of coffee in my travel mug. Fortunately, I was travelling north so the rising sun was not an issue. The trip, although long, was uneventful, and the early afternoon Atlanta ... read more

Tuesday afternoon, May 22nd. We are back in Atlanta. Wow, what a trip! THE GREAT AMERICAN ROAD TRIP aka THE WINE, BEER & BOURBON ROAD TRIP. Our last leg was also the longest at 380 miles. As we departed Memphis, we made the mandatory drive to see Graceland. We decided that we were just too worn out to do the tour. So, we could not see much of the mansion. But we did see his airplanes which were on display across the road. There was not much else to report except that we drove I-22 in north-west Alabama for the first time. I thought the countryside along the road was beautiful. I would like to wrap up our trip with some statistics. States & Nights: 11 States & 16 nights/17 days: GA-Start: TN-1, KY-1, OH-2, IN-1, ... read more

It’s 6 AM and I feel this sharp pressure in my back, I’m opening my eyes and I hear “get up lazy boy”. We’re on vacation and we have flights to catch. As I’m falling or being pushed out of bed, I catch myself just before I do a face plant on the floor. I hear Kirsten say from our bed, Good Morning Sunshine, the shower is waiting. I crawl into the bathroom and pull myself up on the vanity. I’m thinking “This is going to be a long day”. We’re all up showered and fresh, well at least Kirsten is. Drew and I are still half asleep, as we make our way into Kirsten’s car. Kirsten has already picked up Omi and they are both ready to go. I drive to the Orlando airport, there ... read more
