IN THE MEAN TIME.... Let me tell you about the past few days... For Krissy, Melissa, Diane and Mom, you all know the weirdest things happen to me, well....some more for the books. Wednesday night our Hotel Director took us all out to celebrate our graduating the college - earlier than Friday I know - our group got to eat dinner in the formal dinning room at the captains table with the hotel director, food and beverage manager, our Sr. our Mgr, an on board Administrations person and the rest of us. The food was unbelievable, rich dressing salads, visually appealing desserts and aged wine, the conversations were great but what happened at the end of the dinner was even more memorable. So there we were just finished our dessert ready to present our gift to ... read more

Our cruise was for one week, to three ports: Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Our ship was the Carnival Triumph. We had taken a cruise before on the Carnival Conquest. The Triumph and Conquest are very similar. Both are outstanding pleasure ships. This time we got upgraded to an outside cabin with a small balcony. We enjoyed the ship very much. The crew was outstanding. The crew is hired from third world countries because they work cheap. The work long hours with almost no time off for board and room with a small salary. I think they make most of their money from tips which they send home to support their families. Every one of them speaks English well. The weather was cool much of our trip including the cruise. We even went through ... read more

G'Day All Its been a while since our last blog but we have been busy trying to get buff and bronzed to fit into the Maimi scenery. We got into Miami after our disastrous flights from Honolulu to Dallas and then from Dallas to Miami. American Airlines don't supply any food to their flights and if you want food you have to pay an extra $5 for it. On top of that they offer headphones for an extra $2 and their seats are really uncomfortable and only recline about an inch. Ok, theres my complaining about American Airlines finished. Our hostel in Miami was located right in the middle of the art deco area of South Beach which is where all the people with large cars and lots of money hang out on the weekend. Its ... read more

Wednesday November 22, 2006 - Dear God the trip is over. Steve and I woke up this morning a little after 5am. His mom called for our wake up call, plus his phone and my watch alarm were constant reminders. It was time to get moving. I was tired just because it was early, and he was tired because in getting rid of my cold (mostly), I had given it to him. I felt bad but there was some justice in it - he gave me his cold in China and went to see the Terra Cotta Warriors without me while I stayed in. Now we are even, Stephen. (Oh, so that's where that phrase originates). By the time I got me and my stuff downstairs he already had my tea ready, so we sat for ... read more

The flight to La Paz took us to Miami for a 2 hour layover and was an interesting experience as I had not been in the US for nearly three years. Some of the most notable differences were the following: In a matter of hours, we went from being the richest looking gringos everywhere we went, to the most raggedy looking people in the airport. I hadn't before realized how old and discolored my campo clothes had become and for the first time in a long time, was self conscious about my appearance. Tiffany and I had lost our ability to speak in English about people right in front of them without their knowing what we were talking about. On several occasions I caught myself from saying inappropriate things in front of service personnel. On a ... read more

Hi there Everyone, So as many of you know, or those of you who are going to be made aware of my travels, I am currently working as a Corporate Trainer for Carnival Cruise Lines. I will be sailing the Caribbean and Central America training all company initiatives. So my adventure begins… The Eagle has landed. And as much as I would like to say in one piece I cannot. There is a handful of my skin in the man who was sitting beside me on the plane who was a 'nervous' flyer's hand. When we hit some turbulence he decided that I was better than the arm of the chair to grab onto... Oh well I did my good deed for the day ( yesterday ). The flight to Philly was okay, nothing to overkill; ... read more

Our journey to Ecuador proved to be quite a mission. We were flying with American Airlines, which meant we had to trust the airline that had lost two 8ft board bags and three suitcases the last time we flew with them. We were also flying via Miami, so would also have the pleasurable experience of passing through American immigration and customs on the way. Things got off to a predictable start. At the check in desk in Costa Rica we were told that there would be a $70 charge for each of our board bags. Luckily, we had anticipated this happening on the way to the airport, and Pete had come up with a plan. My part in this majestic scenario was to; "stand there and dont say anything. Leave the talking to me." "Ok, I ... read more
