Sunday, June 24th 2007 We Departed Grande Goave at 7am, to make the bumpy journey to the Port au Prince Airport, and arrivied around 9:am. We checked-in and cleared Haitian customs in a breeze. Our flight wasn’t scheduled to depart until 12:35, but we didn’t want to take any chances in arriving late. Go figure, everything went smoothly and we wound up sitting in the terminal waiting are with a solid 2 hour wait before boarding time... NOT! Wouldn’t you know it?!?!?! The flight coming in from Miami was delayed by 3 hours!!! So we waited some more... No problem, we thought... our connection to Montreal wasn’t until 9:PM that evening. Although we would much prefer waiting it out in Miami, surrounded by Burger Kings, shops and air conditioning...the real purpose of this trip was ... read more

... read more

Our transition from the US back to the 3rd world has been interrupted by two events ... a 6-hour stopover in Miami (nice and spacious) and, in my desire to lighten my load, my tossing my laptop from great height onto a concrete floor. I now have to keep my hand firmly pressed on the space just above the keyboard in order to use it. Jane also tells me that our flight into Quito gets in about an hour after our connecting flight to Lima. And our hotel in Lima has no record of our accommodation booking or our airport-to-hotel transfer. Well, wherever we go, there we are! We are, of course, having a fabulous time, and have been blessed to spend time with family in London, family in Boston, family in Kennebunkport, Maine, and ... read more

Some brief notes from Elise and my weekend trip to Miami. I normally don't feel inclined to write about a weekend wedding trip (since at our rate I'd never have time to do anything else), but this trip had some interesting events and besides we were in Miami so it felt like an actual vacation too. So, here's a few things that took place, or I observed. Friday (May 4): We arrive at our hotel, the Mayfair Hotel & Spa. It was very nice, had a unique feel to it, the room was spacious and had a little hottub on the balcony - a feature that suffered nearly the same fate as our fireplace at home - looks cool, and fun to brag about having, but seldom actually used. We wander the area a little and ... read more

Friday, April 27th, 2007 - Miami, Florida - ‘… Welcome to Miami, Buenvenidos a Miami’ I finally made it to Miami, albeit a typo error problem on the Delta Airlines’s e-ticket in spelling my name (apparently an ‘F’ sounds like an ‘S’ over a phone reservation, but it was permuted rather quickly, thanks to Dustin’s Delta Platinum Member program). Upon our smooth landing at the Miami International Airport, an unrecognized language greeted me; judging by its nasal sound similarities to French and the speakers’ colorful appearance, I would have to guess this had to be the Haitian Creole, the third official language of City of Miami after Spanish and English. Meanwhile, my own welcoming version of Will Smith’s big hit a decade ago was playing over and over again in my head: ‘… Welcome to ... read more

Happy April Fool's folks! I actually just realized it as I set the date for this entry... I guess it's only fitting I begin this blog on a day that suits me well. HA! Anyway, I'm currently not travelling... I'm home typing away, watching th Discovery Channel, longing to get on a plane and go somewhere... but alas, I won't be going anywhere for at least another couple of weeks. Nevertheless, I will be detailing about my past adventures, including my trips last year to NYC, Chicago, NC, and TN, and my past trips to exotic Carribean destinations like Grand Cayman, DR, and Jamaica... and my most emotional trips of all: my 2 trips to Cuba and how hard it was for me to say goodbye each time. So I hope to chat with many ... read more
