November 1st We managed a trip north to the Carolina Shores and spent some time on the beaches there after a visit to Fort Fisher. Fort Fisher is one of the lesser known battle fields of the civil way and was also used during WW 2 and a small military stronghold to protect the port. The state recreational area near there has wonderful beaches that stretch for miles. If you are driving a 4x4 as a towed vehicle, I suggest paying the $15 fee for a day pass and driving the trail down the beach for a more secluded experience. The waters here are very inviting and most of the time they are great for swimming. After getting some sun and colleting a few shells, we drove past the Aquarium and pulled into the ferry terminal. ... read more

Being a full time RV’er has advantages in that we can choose to move anywhere our hearts desire and truly travel in search of 70 degrees. After shoveling snow for 33 years in Alaska, we chose to opt out of dealing with the fluffy stuff and fly (drive) south for the winter. I have always heard the term Snowbird and now we can experience just what that means. We were on the East coast, so the likely choice is Florida for the winter. But where in Florida is a good question, we try to be active and enjoy traveling, yet we are getting older and prefer the down time to be quiet. The real trick is to make that decision well in advance and research where you are considering calling your roost. The sooner you make ... read more

Blog 02-23-17 Meeting Ginnie I slept in this morning and it was delightful. After the rain yesterday and some last night it was refreshing to see the sun out this morning. Yes, one day of rain in sunny Florida and I'm so over it. Watson and I went for a longer walk then usual because I have to leave at noon to find cell service and then meet Ginnie for a late lunch. We did the normal double loop then went to the tower to find the eagle nest. Watson went up the stairs like a champ and the view after the rain yesterday was beautiful. The lake was higher, the grass greener and the birds more active. I did find the nest with little trouble and was able to see it much better with my ... read more

blog 02-20-17 Happy Birthday Lisa I was laying in bed having coffee when something outside caught my eye. I had the door open with the screen closed and I saw a rainbow in the tree overhead. Of course I grabbed my camera with the small telephoto and after looking at it determined it was a perfect spider web with the sun hitting it just right. Focus was an issue as well as exposure but I played with it quickly as I knew that perfect angle of the sun was short lived. I did get my big lens out and snapped a few with it but that was really hard to hold and focus. I think one is perfect from the big lens, crisp and full of color. What an exciting way to start the day. Watson ... read more

Space X and a move Saturday was overcast and watching the launch was iffy. Space X is scheduled to launch a re-supply mission to the space station and it is due to go off at 10:02 am. I have my site all picked out, the observation platform right next to my camper. I thought about driving south about an hour to get a good view but decided to not to go. Driving 2 hrs today and then leaving tomorrow was going to be too much driving and what if the flight didn't go, what a waste. The platform started getting crowded as the launch time approached, my friends Judy and Larry came from the river side to watch with me and several other campers were there. Nice to see so much enthusiasm for a launch. The ... read more

2/16/16- FYI - My travel blog delivery site had a bug in their system so my last 2 blogs did not get sent out to my subscribers. Doing it again and hoping it works this time. Note dates on my blogs to see where I left off. Thanks for your patience - Sandy Our time machine is getting a good workout. I've been trying to get back on schedule with my blogs but keep falling behind. Just bear with me best you can. I'll get it right soon. Going back to Super Bowl Sunday. Some of you may not want to but some of us liked it. Sam & Cory made their annual bet. Sam won the card draw bet to pick a team. He selected the N.C. Panthers. Even though the air was cold and the wind made it even more uncomfortable, Cory and I ventured south for 1 1/2 hours to the big, Florida Flywheelers Show. I suggested to Cory he might better wear long pants than shorts....nope, he does things his way: shorts was his garb. Me: I had three layers of tops, long pants and mittens. One mistake: I forgot a hat. Soon I would find out I would really need a Russian Fur hat to do the job right. The Flywheelers show consists of tractors, huge machinery, antique engines and equipment of all vintages. There is an enormous flea market that goes with this display of heavy duty equipment ...so large you rent a golf cart to get around it. Most of the stuff for sale is old, rusted, metal ... read more

Our excursions have begun. They seem to be centered mostly around food. Yesterday, Cory & I went to the Noodle Company restaurant. We travel through Disney grounds to get there. It is truly like a fantasyland we are now living in. So awesome. Disneyworld is only about 5 minutes away.? Imagine living in Disney's backyard! Well, we are!! What an extreme from home. We live near the Genesee River there (one of the few rivers that flow from the south to the north). The noodle restaurant is one of my very favorites. Every kind of noodle dish you can possibly want..plus more. Now they list the calorie count under each dish...vegan and not. My big bowl of penne rosa (vegan style) was only 520 cals. It was even too much to eat and boy, was it ... read more

The long flight from Dublin ended in Miami and our reunion with long time friends John and Kathy picking us up at the airport and taking us back to their home in Fort Lauderdale for a few days. It was a welcome respite from the heat once we got indoors. We had a couple of most enjoyable days catching up over the past ten years or so, with Kathy whipping up some fantastic meals, which were enjoyed with copious amounts of wine and of course Southern Comfort..... On our last night, John and Kathy invited a group of friends to a shared dinner at their home, where we met up with great people from around the world and chatted, ate and drank into the wee small hours. The following day, John and Kathy drove us up ... read more
