Let the betting begin
Sam wins the Super Bowl draw but not the game 2/16/16- FYI - My travel blog delivery site had a bug in their system so my last 2 blogs did not get sent out to my subscribers. Doing it again and hoping it works this time. Note dates on my blogs to see where I left off. Thanks for your patience - Sandy
Our time machine is getting a good workout. I've been trying to get back on schedule with my blogs but keep falling behind. Just bear with me best you can. I'll get it right soon.
Going back to Super Bowl Sunday. Some of you may not want to but some of us liked it. Sam & Cory made their annual bet. Sam won the card draw bet to pick a team. He selected the N.C. Panthers. Cory secretly wanted that team cause our son, Cory, lives in N.C. But he took the Broncos like he had to and was gracious cause he had to be. Sam was beaming from ear to ear....all smug. But you all know the end of this story! Sorry, Sam but winner Cory had to do his happy dance right in front of you. We both were dancing as the RV rocked
back and forth. Sam & Sandy waved their pity towels. The bet was a dinner at Cherry Pocket (unique fish camp restaurant) ....loser pays! Get your chunk change out Mr. & Mrs. Foreman. We are trying not to be smug! I think all the betting games are over for this season......Sandy is relieved! Next year, though.
The dastardly cold that I caught after the cruise had me taking it easy for awhile. It didn't get too bad nor last too long....thankfully. We went to Costco's so Cory could have his annual checkup with his hearing aides. He likes Frank, the technician. Cory's good to go for another year now. Can you hear me now? YES, I can!
Pulled myself together to go with Sam & Sandy to the Ale House. Wednesday: lobster night, remember. It was very tasty as usual. We just beat the big crowd. There is a mega huge Timeshare property called Orange Lake that brings in thousands of people. It is located right behind the Ale House. They are all in town now so to say that the Ale House gets crowded....is an understatement......long, long lines wait for very long, long times. But not us.
???
Cory played golf with the group of men from Tropical Palms on Thursday. I use this time to clean and try to catch up with odds & ends. Our daughter, Lory, sent me a mountain of my gossip magazines so I even found time to read a few of them. The older I get the less I know some of these new and upcoming stars. Less to read. That's almost good for me. So many thing to keep up with nowadays.
Friday, we tried to get caught up with our yearly bucket list. The four of us sped along the highway to Plant City for their monster size strawberry short cake at the Parksdale Market. If you have never been here - GO! It is a unique place. Besides the shortcake section, you can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, jams, etc. The seating area, when devouring your delicious shortcake or strawberry milkshake, is something to see. A tad primitive but highly decorated with bright, gaudy, red decorations, twisted green plants and trees and a grungy fiberglass roof. You feel special here. Famous people (besides us) have visited here: Pres. George & Barbara Bush for example. Later, we rented
Parksdale Market
Plant City, Florida a movie from the Red Box: Martian. Settled into our RV and struggled to get the DVD player to work....but we figured it out. We enjoyed the movie but it is a one-timer.
The famous Strawberry Festival is March 3-13 this year. They have some good entertainers playing: Donny & Marie, Charley Pride, Trace Adkins, Merle Haggard, Martina McBride, Tanya Tucker (Delta Dawn...my favorite song to sing ....or try to anyway), and many more. May have to put that on the old bucket list.
Both bucket list and pay-back material, we killed two birds with one stone today. We drove around Winter Haven, stopped at a dusty, old flea market and ended up at Cherry Pocket. Remember that was the Super Bowl Bet....we won, they lost. We really like this primitive and unique eatery. I felt right at home with the cobwebs flowing on all the vintage treasures that set high on a shelf all around this paneled shack. Their signs actually call it a shack so I am not stating anything untrue or unkind. There is outdoor seating on an old wooden deck....the bar is an old, dilapidated boat you sit around. Live music filled the air.
We sat inside. The weather has not yet become hot & toasty. We arrived just before the dinner menu started which was perfect. They took our order and we got served our dinners earlier than most. Catfish & shrimp were our delicacies for the evening. So good! Linda, the owner-manager, posed with Lulu. She has done this in years past so now it is a routine. Lulu is thrilled with the attention! Thank you, Linda. Grouper is one of their specialities. Everyone loved it.....in the past. BUT, the truth came out. We read the fine print on the menu. It stated their "grooper" (note spelling) was really basa fish. I'll just say: Google "basa fish!" That's why everyone in our group ordered shrimp or catfish. If you want a special, memorable place to go: head to Cherry Pocket. You will need a GPS.....you will never find it otherwise! It is located way outside of Lake Wales. If you need a guide, just call us!
Back at TP, the fun for the guys continued. Sam, Cory & George walked up to Old Town for a huge car show. Sam said there would be over 300 cars. I can hear the
loudspeaker and music back at our RV. It must be crowded and festive up there. I am just happy doing my blog. The line of traffic coming back into our park was bumper to bumper (we were in it) with all the people coming to this event. Must be thousands of folks at it. They have these car shows every Friday & Saturday but tonight must be a special one.
Happy Valentine's Day TOMORROW! That's in case I don't write a blog then. Nothing special planned unless Sam & Sandy do another pay-back for another winning (us) bet......sorry, guys....you lost! This one will be for Coca Cola cake at Cracker Barrel. Oh, this is a "to-die-for" dessert. If you haven't tried it: TRY IT! Hmmmmm......sounds like a sweet tasty treat for a sweet couple from another sweet couple. Lulu said she would be everybody's Valentine. What a sweetheart!
