Well, I finally managed to get a week off work - yipee! I headed off to Denver, Colorado where I met up with my Dad. We had a wonderful time watching the Colorado Rockies play the San Diego Padres at the Coors Field stadium. Luckily the Rockies won and my Dad enjoyed his first baseball game. We then hired a car and set off on our long drive to see some of the famous sights. We started off with the Garden of the Gods; went on the Manitou Springs-Pikes Peak Cog railway which was 20 degrees Farenheight at the top and snowing!; then to the Great Sand dunes; Mesa Verde National Park where we hiked among the famous cliff dwellings; the hot springs at Ouray; spent an hour in Aspen before getting to Grand Lake and ... read more

After a few hectic days of last minute shopping and packing my departure date finally arrived. My mom and sister took me to the airport and refused to let me leave without taking tons of pictures. I finally convinced them that we didn't need to get yet another angle, and I was officially on my way. The start of the trip was somewhat jittery as our flight from Denver had mechanical problems. "Nothing to worry about" said the pilot, "we just have a fault light on in the cockpit." Yeah right, nothing to worry about. After an hour or so of having the A/C turn on and off repeatedly, we finally backed away from the gate and started taxiing. We made it almost all the way to the runway when the pilot comes on again and ... read more

When I sat down to write this first entry I realized that in exactly 3 weeks I'll be leaving for London. That's three weeks to finish figuring out what I'm going to do when I land at Heathrow. Three more weeks to say goodbye to friends and family. And three more weeks of alternating between excitement and fear. Not very much time at all really. Since this is my first entry, I think it's worth taking some time to write about why I decided to quit my job, sell my stuff, and buy a one-way ticket to Europe. I graduated from college in 2004, and immediately started working for a credit card company in Virginia. I found the first year of work to be both exciting and challenging. However, shortly after my first anniversary at the ... read more

I suppose all stories must end at some point, and this particular one does so here. During the first week of the TEFL program, I considered cutting the whole thing short. I found the whole experience much more empty than I had hoped and there much to be done at home. After all, I had not spent a week in Denver before I left for Paris. I was seriously considering leaving, so I looked on the program website for specific information about refunds, continuing the course elsewhere, and all the specifics that quitting would entail. Pulling up that website was a strange experience. It was the same website I had stared at on so many occasions over the year, thinking of far away and exotic places, new experiences, and big things to be started abroad. In ... read more

After getting up at 2:30am Saturday and a two-and-a-half-hour flight from San Jose, we are waiting for our connection flight in Denver to Cancun. We came to realize that any airport in any major city in the US is nicer than the one in San Jose which still resembles a Greyhound terminal after many years. There are a few annoying kids in the waiting lounge playing whatever ball game they invented. Whatever it is, they are annoying and should be sent back to their bedrooms. Other than that, I'm really looking forward to getting to Cancun - my first visit to Mexico! (Joe)... read more

From Halifax to New York up in way ing the sky. I see all is fog, thick as Chocolate sryup. Entering the US border, I see heavenly clouds like cotton candy that I can dance on. They looked sooo fluffly that I can jump out of the plane and just sleep, sleep like an angel. In the air of New York, I see houses duhh, many fottball fields, baseball fields, Parks, and tonsss of cars! I fly into New York, very high security there, what I thought was something would happen and we would have to be stopped by. So many Officers were there, to be safe though, you know since 9/11 happen. We got through, but got lost a bit :S, I asked my dad if I can use the phone to call Sean ... read more

OK, so I came home a few days early! I missed my family and Andrew and Bailey a lot, and when Phuong and I started to get a bit frustrated with (tired of?) each other, I decided to call the airline and catch an earlier flight! It was fun navigating by myself. I caught a train from Salzburg to Munich, and took the S-bahn to the airport. Actually, first, I took it in the wrong direction. *Then* i took it to the airport! After a long day of travelling and some delayed flights, I landed and found out that Andrew's plane (he was flying in from South Carolina) had been cancelled! Bad weather at the East Coast. There went my ride. Never fear, though! My dad came at 10pm and rescued me. I'm so happy ... read more

Today was the trip to the Mile High City: Denver, CO. Went to visit my friend Jen, who I met last summer at the Ellis internship weekend. We got some awesome subs, wandered through the “gay park”, and met a rather precocious squirrel. This little guy kept his distance until a little bread went his way. Then, all bets were off and he got pretty close! We decided to name him Mr. Waggers because of his excessive tail motion. Seriously, it’s like his tail had ADHD…and you know it’s bad if you figure that this was in addition to the normal high-strung nature of a squirrel. But, I digress. After much musing about life, music and the perils of falling for straight girls, we took the show back to Jen’s place where we traded some songs ... read more
