Der heutige Tag war nur Reisetag, da ich morgens zum Flughafen gefahren bin, dann ins Flugzeug und nach LA. In LA bin ich Abends angekommen, um etwa 21 Uhr. LA hat eine Zeitverschiebung zu Hawaii von 3 Stunden. Auf der Fahrt zum Hostel, habe ich im Shuttle ein Paar aus Slowenien getroffen. Diese besuchen ihren Sohn, der hier in LA Musik studiert. Mit denen habe ich mich dann auf serbisch unterhalten. Als ich dann im Hostel ankam, habe ich erst mal einen Schreck bekommen, als ich mein Zimmer betreten habe. Vom Zimmer fuehrt eine Glastuer zum Innenhof, wo laute Musik lief und Party angesagt war. Ich fragte einen Chinesen der mit mir im Zimmer war, ob dies jeden Abend so laut ist, und er sagte ja. Heute morgen wollte ich eigentlich früh aufstehen, um das Wetter auszunutzen, da für das Wochenende Regen angesagt ist. Leider habe ich meine Uhr falsch gestellt, so dass ich bis um 10 geschlafen habe. Ich habe mich über mich selbst geärgert, aber was solls. Nach einem kurzen Frühstück, ging es dann erst mal die Gegend erkunden. Das Hostel liegt sehr nah an der Melrose Avenue. Ich bin dann weiter zum Santa Monica Boulevard und weiter hoch Richtung Hollywood. Ich wollte unbedigt das Hollywoodzeichen sehen. Das habe ich aber erst dann gesehen, als ich schon auf dem Hollywood-Boulevard war und den Walk of Fame längs gegangen, wo die Sterne mit den Namen der Stars auf dem Gehweg eingeprägt sind. Monday 14th March – First Taste of Los Angeles All packed in Waikiki and a trip to Honolulu airport to fly out to mainland USA and see our very good friends in LA: Brian and Tanya – How wonderful to see our old friends again, with whom we shared many happy times, in London, Bournemouth, Chicago and LA. Norms Diner – Despite a late arrival, a great old US diner beckoned and we eat at the institution that is Norms. OCEANSIDE – CAL 7 mars –Départ de San Diego pour Oceanside. Après avoir nettoyé et lubrifié les contacts, les freins du RV fonctionnent parfaitement. Yé! 8 mars – Ce matin, les jardins de fleurs à Carlsbad – très beau . Ces fleurs poussent partout, bordures de rues ou sorties d’autoroute. Ça fait une ville très fleurie! Ensuite, on a trouvé une superbe plage à Carlsbad/centre avec un boardwalk au niveau de la rue. Il y avait 4 équipes de jeunes filles qui s’entrainaient pour le volleyball sur la plage. La plage est propre et il y a des condos, hôtels de luxe en face de la plage et bistros, resto. On finit à Oceanside beach près du ‘pier’ pour voir le coucher de soleil. Beaucoup de surfers…. March 14 Mariposa to Yosemite. Loaded up the next morning and headed into Yosemite. The day started out cloudy but cleared up and became a very nice day. I started my usual climbing the steep inclines and slowing on the steep downhill slopes and curves all the way. Hard on both man and machine. I stopped in a turnout after a particularly long and steep downhill slope and smelled my brakes having a burning smell. So I found a level spot where I wouldn't need to apply the parking brake and just use the transmission to hold the truck and let the brakes cool off. This certainly got my attention and I stopped periodically on the rest of the way in picturesque spots to let my brakes cool off again. I came to a detour in ... read more
