Ok so I'm still in LA stuck in the books and have a little more than a month to go on this whole bar exam experience...but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel so I'm starting my journal today. Hopefully in a little more than 30 days I will look back on tonight and realize that the nightmare is finally over. On a more positive note, I'm really excited about being able to share this experience with everyone who logs on...at this stage of the game so many things in life are open to who knows what and it couldn't be more exhilirating. Now I've just got to buckle down and get through the next 4+ weeks. I feel like the little engine...I think I can, I think I can, I think ... read more

Kia ora everyone from LA. Im finally out of central america which fells kinda strange not hearing spanish everyday and flushing the toilet paper. My last week in Liberia, Costa Rica was spent hanging out with friends, another trip to Tamarindo for a final surf which was dead flat and saying goodbye to everyone. Te extrano mucho a todo mi amigos y nos vemos otra vez pronto, lo juro! ya yo se que no puedo escriber en espanol. Kat got a new job for a computer supplies company which she really enjoys so that was great. Was sad to leave life in Costa Rica after 9 weeks but I think it was time to move on. Caught the bus to San Jose then met Annick in mall San Pedro with her friend Wendy. Spent my last ... read more

Today I left San Francisco and jumped on the Green Tortoise bus. Jen Nelson and Eoin dropped me off. I knew I was in trouble when a group of rowdy Irish men arrived. I just can't get away from them :) We started off by meeting everyone on the trip and picking buddies. I quickly realized I was one of only 3 Americans and one of 6 people over the age of 21, which made for quite an interesting ride. There were about 22 people on the trip all together. We spent the first night traveling through the night. We first performed the "miracle," the conversion of the seats on the bus into beds. I stayed up much of the night getting to know the people on the bus and learning how to play the Aussie ... read more

It's been a while! We've done so much since I last wrote - skydiving in Taupo, black water rafting in Waitomo...After bidding fond farewells to the Reynolds & Thatchers in Auckland we flew to what we thought would be a few days in the sun in Fiji. Those of you (I'm sure that's not many) who watch the "Love Island" programme on TV will know it was cancelled due to the storms in Fiji. We spent 3 days playing cards and planning our road trip across the USA by candlelight, in a wooden hut (luckily with some great people). The island was still amazingly beautiful, even in the rain, and although the inhabitants were incredibly poor they were really friendly and great fun. Arriving in LA was a bit of a shock, after not even having ... read more

Leaving the islands of Polynesia I had arrived at the epicenter of the modern materalistic western world, Los Angeles. I was expecting a great deal of questions regarding to getting into the country without a visa but had no troubles whatsoever and I was quite shocked as I was preparing for a full cavity search. The weather was quite agreeable, not too hot but nice enough to walk around as there is not much point getting any public transport as the traffic is almost always backed up. I could see why this city has one of the worst pollution problems in the world. It took about 1.5 hours just to get from the beach to downtown LA. It also stems from the fact that the Americans have the bigger is better motto which meant that ... read more

...and we have dreams of Giant Panda Bears, Terracotta Warrior Armies, and hot pots. For 7 weeks we will be traversing the homeland of one of our ancestors. Our first stop is Bejiing, to explore the glorious capital city with my (Jeff) parents. Our bags are packed and we're ready to go, excited, anxious, impatient, and hungry. We are bummed this blog won't show our route on a map and has dorky icons, but are stoked it is free with unlimited space for thoughts and images. Help us to fill it. That's all for now, Kaley and Jeff... read more

Wow.!!! Got to USA only 2 days ago but WOW!! It's been action packed already. Can't wait for camp to start. I flew in to LAX on Sunday at exactly the same time I left New Zealand... hmmm... odd! Was lucky enough to get met at the airport and escorted to the hotel - Crowne Plaza - nice. We had free time until orientation that night so after settling in a few of us went for a walk hoping to stumble across some local culture or shops. Whichever was to come first we didn't mind either way. Unfortunately we found no such thing but we did find a Burger King. The only trouble was the lady who worked there coiuldn't understand a thing we said! You would think we weren't even speaking english!!!! Not that we ... read more

Carin, Brian and i road trippin down to Los Angeles. First stop Dodgers Game for some authentic US baseball action and the legendary Dodgers Dogs. Followed by a night of partying LA style. Brian took us on the ultimate tour of LA seeing the stars, going on the crazy rollercoasters at Magic Mountain (they are extreme) and hanging out at the beach. Yes, Baywatch prepared us well for the hunky men who donned the red shorts and protected us from the ¨waves ¨. Man they were cute! ... read more
