Welcome! This is the begining of our trip, and we're trying to figure out this travel blog thing so every body can follow us on our journey. We're starting off in California, we moved out of our house a couple days ago and quit our jobs a few weeks before that. We're now at Brandi's wonderful mom's (and Dave's) house in San Rafael, and from here we're thinking about going up to Sacramento for a few days before we get to some hardcore driving. Right now, we're doing a lot of work on the bus, putting on the finishing touches. Gimli (yes, named after the Lord of the Rings character) is going to be converted to running on veggie oil this weekend, so we're really excited about that! We are setting up our surround sound system ... read more

Hi, it's Ilene writing from California-- Glad I built in the one-day buffer in California. You'd think leaving CT in the morning would give me plenty of time to reach California, but I almost spent the night in Dallas. 12:15pm EST my plane leaves 30 min late from BDL. 3:35pm CST I miss my connection in DFW by 5 minutes because we take an extra 40 minutes in the air to go around strong headwinds. I ran and ran. No avail. 6 others also miss the flight. Why is it better to reroute all of us than holding the plane? There should be a word for the feeling you get watching your connecting flight pull away from the gate while you're still on the runway in your first plane. 3:45pm CST I'm put on standby for ... read more

Trip back to San Francisco was fairly easy and we dropped Jason back at the airport to make his way back to UK. Sarah, Dave, Mark, Beckie and myself then stayed in San Fran for a few more days to take in the sights of the city. We stayed in "The Opal" hotel on Van Ness. Good value place and you get breakfast thrown in. Its near some good transport links so is a pretty good bet for the cost conscious! After managing to return the fun bus to Budget in their underground car park (Dave and I did not think we were going to make it down the ramp in places - very tight!) We walked into China town past the cathedral and some other historic buildings. China town was a slightly mad place with ... read more

Soo, what can I say. Well I haven't got much time to write now, been here in the Internet cafe for over 2 hours trying to catch up on emails etc, and time is running out! Well, we went Las Vegas, took the bus there from LA. We got there pretty late so we just put our bags down in a hostel, got ready and left. Vegas, wow, what a cool place! I loved it. We stayed up till 8am in the morning the first night, not sure how it happend, but we seemed to never get tired! Met a guy who taught us how to gamble and we very happy to have experienced it. Met some other cool people from Germany who we were hanging out with the flllowing night too when we went to ... read more

We spent the weekend enjoying New Haven a little. ("Little Children" at the Criterion was pretty good. What's with the voiceovers with the guy from Frontline? We hit the last sale on summer stuff at Bottega, so we'll be stylin in the tropics. A lot of the YCBA is closed off now while they build the next exhibit, so we went up to the 4th floor and enjoyed the sunlight. And we made our first stop at Barcelona, the new place at Temple and Crown. There were a couple of tapas we liked a lot.) And we played with Robert's new digicam and got Ilene's bags packed. Robert dropped Ilene at the aiport this morning, and now she's in Orange County until tomorrow evening when she and Thuan start heading across the Pacific. Robert's playing the ... read more

Seufer6: Destination: Laguna Beach: January15-18, 2007 Monday January 15, 2007 Martin Luther King Day After so much fun in Disneyland, we decided to turn it down a notch and head south for a few days of relaxing in the beautiful artsy town of Laguna Beach, California. We arrived after a short drive to the ULTRA luxurious Montage Hotel and Spa, checked into our room, unpacked a little, put on our swimsuits and headed for the pool, which was just feet from our door. We swam, hot tubbed, walked to the beach, and enjoyed the sunset. As the sun set, the weather cooled, so we headed back to our room where Tanner fixed all his sisters sandwiches and strawberries. They were yummy. By the presentation of the turkey sandwich and strawberries on the plate, he is destined ... read more

Hey All! So I am here at Nicole Melas's house in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. It has been quite a whirl wind since I got here but the perfect way to start of my trip...spending some good quality time with such a good friend and her amazing fam. So I ended up in LA at about 10:30 pm EST and went out to dinner w/ Nicole's fam and family friends. Dinner was great but I was definitely feeling pretty sleepy by the time I got to go to bed at about 2am Boston time. Yesterday we had breakfast outside although it is a little chilly here (record lows last nigh for 23 hours!!! I am very glad Clara will be with me for this very long trek! Anyway I know my internet access will be pretty ... read more

So last year we went to almost a dozen cities in Europe, mostly in the Balkins and had a great time. But we aren't so into the organized tour scene so, for the most part we did our own research and had tours and info all ready before we got there.....fun but lots of work. In San Francisco, we found this site where we bought a tour and loaded it on to our iPods. It came with a PDF file that had a map and a sheet that showed how to get from one stop to another. It was soooo much esier than doing all the research and kept us off the bus tours too. I spent $20 for a half day tour for four people. It was very cool. The site is www.citystorywalks.com. I think ... read more
