It's seems unreal that in five days I'm going to be standing in line at LAX ready to board a plane whose ultimate destination is Amsterdam. Crazy. That's 5 days to say goodbye to everyone I know, take as many pictures as I can of the people/things I'm leaving behind, and to get all the supplies I need. I'm painfully unprepared. It's amazing I even have boots. There are so many things I need to sort out and organize before I go. Wow. Just 5 short days. Sitting in the computer lab here at school it seems like my trip is still so far away. I probably won't believe its happening until I'm actually there. *sigh* I honestly thought I'd be a lot more excited about going. I mean, I AM excited. This is something I've ... read more

San Francisco Sojourn After Australia, we decided to go home to California for a few months…for the holidays (we missed the 2005 holidays b/c of traveling), my dad’s 70th birthday, to see other family and friends and to just generally re-group (It’s tough work visiting non-stop wineries! As many joked, “We needed - a vacation from the vacation!”) We made our home in San Francisco with our close friend, Jackie. “Made our home” is probably more accurately described as “Booted Jackie out, changed the locks, adopted her place as our own and then proceeded to invite Jackie over as a guest!” hehe…Joking aside, we couldn’t have asked for a better hostess! We lived in the Marina neighborhood of SF, a great spot -- beginning with the gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge. As expected, ... read more

The Girls

After 3 hours of sleep Tuesday morning - I was up and heading off to the airport. Geez, last minute things sure take a LONG time to pack! Linds and I flew to LA (and slept pretty much the whole way) and had over 12 hours to kill before our flight took off to Singapore. We certainly were not staying in the airport. As luck would have it, we were getting off the plane and heard this girl (we later found out her name was Leslie) talking about having a 12 hour layover on her way to Sinapore and then unto Adelaide, Australia. Well, we got to chatting and decided to hang out. She’d also met this guy named Blair (from Edmonton as well) on the plane who was vacationing in LA. He was renting a ... read more

Check out the video. Today I woke up feeling refreshed after actually sleeping well last night! We went out first thing to find the house where I used to live- we drove straight past it at first as I remembered it being bigger. It was weird to see the house again, and the school where I attended kindergarten. I couldn't find the pre-school I went to though, which was disappointing. The centre of Livermore has changed lots, so I had no chance of recognising anything there! At around midday we headed for Richmond, and to Larry's boat, and from there headed out for a sail on the bay. It was amazing. We sailed up to Angel Island, and then around Alcatraz. Although the sky was very hazy, we could see the city outline, and both the ... read more

So this is the first installment from our travels! It is Day 3 and we've just arrived in Livermore, where I used to live as a kid. We spent the last three days in San Francisco, which was amazing. It's a fantastic city by day (and probably by night but our hostel was in a pretty dodgy area and we had severe jetlag!), and the weather has been beautiful. Sun, sun and a light breeze- rather nicer than the English winter! Walked for miles, covering lots of the city, including the main tourist sites. And of course we rode a cable car. Allie, I thought of you on Fisherman's Wharf and the Ghiradelli Factory. And Rach I thought of you when we saw an enormous shoe shop, with 60% off everything for their 'semi-annual' sale! UntitledSan Fransisco was a pretty cool place. Not really mutch to say about it though. We had a shocker of a hostel whitch was more like a crack house or a house for recovering addicts than a youth hostel!! We checked out China Town, Pier 39, Fisherman´s Wharf and Golden Gate Bridge. It was bloody cold tho so the bridge was a mission and too foggy to see mutch. Had some great clam chowder on Fisherman´s Wharf and visited this chocolate shop that had more different kinds of chocolate and chocolate related things than either of us had ever seen!! Like LA it would be better in summer I think...... read more

9th January until the day I go home (probably the 25th), 2007 I guess the last legs of journeys like this are always a going to be a mixed bag of emotions: Sadness that a long held dream has come to fruition, run it's course and is nearing it's end, reflection on the experience bringing back pleasant sensations and then an eager excitement tinged with a certain sense of trepidation over going back to what you knew before (and wondering if everything- including me- will still be the same when I get there). All that said, Sarah being present during most of my brief return to the good ol' U S of A did much to distract me from this mixed state of mind. All was fun and frolics under California's cloudless skies and the sun ... read more

Seufer6: Destination: Lake Tahoe Monday, January 22, 2007 We drove here from San Francisco to get here yesterday. It took us about 3 hours to get to our final destination for this leg of our trip. We are staying in a nice house that has plenty of room for all of us, so it will be nice to spread out a little bit more than we have been. Our house is on Winding Creek Rd. and we will call it home for the week. Today we woke up, did school work and got all caught up in spelling (2 lessons), math 2 pages, and well almost science! My dad, Emma, and Lilly went to Squaw Valley and Tahoe City to check things out so we could concentrate. When they got back dad told us we were ... read more

Mammoth Ski Trip 2007 http://www.mammothmountain.com/ So to start off 2007, a few friends and I had planned on going up to the mountains to ski. In Los Angeles, you have 2 choices, Big Bear or Mammoth. In our minds, Mammoth will always be the winner with that choice, as they have more snow, bigger runs, and a nicer village area. So Gadow, Traci, Tracy, Kasey, Mindi, Youxi and I, all left Friday afternoon to get up there and start the festivities. After a vigorous workout of beers and Wii tennis, (video at the top) we went to sleep with only 6 hours til we needed to get up. Probably not the best idea, but we managed to do ok. On Saturday, even with our soreness from Wii Sports, we got up and hit the mountain. ... read more

Well things are still going well over here, work is still fun and is getting better as we all get to know each other. The weather is still troubling though, it was FREEEEZING at the start of the week, one day it never rose above around -12c and it was sunny the whole day, in the morning it was around -30c with no wind chill! Pretty much if we left our water/anything liquid outside for long it froze. Needless to say we spent most of the day huddled in the warmish huts at the top and bottom of the lifts. Now though it is unseasonly warm again and there doesnt appear to be any snow on the way which could become a problem as all our existing snow may melt away, which could once again leave ... read more
