For the last week I have been in San Francisco. With this being my last destination, I am now planning on my next steps and how I will be able to get back here. The best cities by far have al been the ones next two water. Is this because I dont feel closed off or does it bring a stronger connection to Sydney? San Franciscans can be super stylish and have some great music. The city seems to be constantly immersed in festivals and concerts. As a tourist I did most of the typical things like the Golden Gate, Crooked Street, Cable Car and some of the museums and art galleries. The best part was simply the travels on the public transport through the city and to see the colourful homes and hills. While I ... read more

San Francisco: Sept 16-22 We bussed it over the Bay Bridge into one of America’s most loved city, excited to be visiting somewhere that we’ve always wanted to see (the more you travel, the less this happens). We’re greeted by a sunny, windy day - the norm for San Fran- and decided to carry our bags to the hotel as its only 5 blocks away. Well that was 5 American city blocks that are far bigger than Canadian blocks but the worst part of it all is San Francisco must be the hilliest city in the world. We get to Union Square, the centre of upscale shopping in San Fran and right down the street from our hotel and I mean literally down the street. We are up on Nob Hill overlooking the city and ... read more

Hello all! Aaron and I have arrived safely in San Francisco and have both begun our ministries. We are living in a parish, school, and retired Marist community right in the middle of the financial district in downtown San Fran. Its a great location and Aaron and I had a few days to explore the city on our own before beginning our work. After meeting with Catholic Charities we have both begun working although in different places. Aaron is working at a place called Rita de Cascia house which is a home for previously homeless families who have a family member infected with HIV/AIDS. He is also doing some work at Guerrero House which is a transitional house for homeless young adults ages 18-24. I am working at St. Joseph's Family Center which is a transitional ... read more

Today we headed towards San Francisco, stopping along the way at a winery in Sonoma Valley - much the same as the more famous Napa Valley. There were lots of yummy things to try there, so we pretty much ate lunch trying out all the dips and things! We then headed into San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge. What a sight. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest and fog covered the top so you couldn't actually see the top of the bridge. In San Fran, like all the other places except Vegas we were supposed to be staying in a campsite. But earlier in the week (day 2 I think) Priska had decided that we were too loud and would probably get kicked out of the San Fran campsite so had organised us a bed ... read more

Hello Folks! Hope you're all doing well. Our apologies for not keeping this up to date - it's hard work having fun! Anyway, we are both safe and well in San Francisco, CA. It's our last day here as tomorrow we are flying to Mexico City. We've had a fantastic time in the USA but we're really excited about going to another country. Here's what we've been up to since the last blog from Arizona..... After a fantastic 4 days in Tucson (amazing scenery, great sunsets, nude waterfalls, microwaved foods, caves, wildlife, swimming & lots of alcohol) we drove north to see the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. Rachel did some 'off roading' in our hire car through the valley (don't think the suspension works as well now!) and we managed to stay in the worst ... read more

I've started the preparations for my trip to Asia. I got myself an Eagle Creek Explorer backpack and some supplies from REI. I found an awesome micro-fibre, quickdry towel and i've been testing it i've gotten some books and started reading. I'm not sure exactly what i'll be doing during the entire time, but I'm glad that i'm not the only one that has experienced this sort of adventure seeking... Below is a little snippet from the Travel Blog Travel Guide. Mid-Twenties Crisis Vast numbers of people mid-way through the start of promising careers realize that this is not what they wanted to do their whole lives! This often coincides with finally paying off the debts from university educations, or the saving of enough money to put a deposit on a house, and then realizing that ... read more
