Well friends and family, it certainly has been a while since I've sat down and continued to share my adventures with you. Sadly, they have come to an end for the time being. Last time, I believe, we met up with our hero, she was partying down in Auckland saying fairwell to her homies. Mr. Camper Van (Beethoven - for you, Claire) was delivered safe and sound. The last few days in New Zealand were gloomy - wet and overcast but that didn't stop our hero from soaking in the last remaining moments of Kiwi-dom before poof! she went off to Fiji! Ah, Fiji. What can one say about Fiji that hasn't already been said about tropical paradises the world over. It was heaven. It was warm. I got tan. I relaxed and read on the ... read more

So I thought this little adventure was over, but I just got an e-mail from Peru that I had to forward on. My friend Julie (the one I knew previously from Africa) just had to have an operation while in Peru...here is her e-mail "I barely have the energy to write this and I will fill you in later next week when I return but I was flown by medical jet out of ayacucho and had an emergency appendectomy. It was so scary. I was released today but am still very weak. All I know is that I am going to need some serious therapy after this! I am staying with someone through my Moms connection until I an strong enough to fly. Please let amanda and the Ayacucho girls know. I could use all of ... read more

Well, San Francisco: I LOVE YOU! Our first little stint in San Fran barely did it justice. Now that we've had time to walk around and take in the city... it is just so cool. I have never felt so in tune with a city than I have here in Frisco. I even love how harmonious the town is within itself. Even though there are a multitude of different, unique neighborhoods with their own culture and denizens, at first glance they all seemed to be fairly tolerant. Now, if I were to go to law school here and actually spend some real time here, I may find a different story; however, I think first impressions are pretty important and do mean something. I think the best thing that I loved about San Francisco, or at least ... read more

This last year has flown by. It seems like I was talking to Lloyd about if we were going to travel or not the other day. Planning this trip over the past 9 months has been amazing. The whole idea of taking this trip started when Lloyd and I shared a room fall quarter because he quite his job as a Resident Adviser in the dorms to pursue the life of a Bartender...I think it worked out well. I was in a journalism class and we were asked to buy three magazines that we would potentially like to write for. One of my magazines was National Geographic Traveler. The lead article was Around the World in 80 destinations. After looking through the magazine Lloyd and I somehow got to talking about traveling. I don't remember who ... read more

One moment I was in New York, the next I'm in San Francisco. Its as if 7 weeks have gone by in the blink of an eye. The road trip has been hectic. I've had far less free time than expected for blogging duties and learning Spanish (for South American phase, now less than a week away!). I have seen so much! There is certainly no better way to get around the states than a big gas-guzzling SUV. The flipside is that there have been times when I'd have liked to have spent longer in a place, but we've been forced to hit the road again in order to reach the next destination and ultimately get to Los Angeles on time. Here are a selection of photos from the journey so far. PS. I wrote the ... read more

In my final week in San Francisco i went to jail for a day. Alcatraz that is, the ex-prison located on an island in the the bay near SF. Quite strange that in my 4 years of living in San Francisco i never went to it before, but i was working and the weekends require a reservation upto a month in advance, and i can't schedule my life that well. When i did have holidays i was more keen for backpacking in the mountains or on the coast or snowboarding at Lake Tahoe. So Jace and myself went on Tuesday, got there late by one minute and our ferry had gone, so we had to wait in the standby queue for 2 hours, sheesh! In a type of prison already... Finally we arrive and we ascend ... read more

So here we are in San Francisco, the first stop on the new trip, my first time in America and I am loving it! I arrived Tuesday afternoon after a very long but uneventful flight with a dissapointing array of inflight films, I was hoping for Batman Begins, War of the Worlds or ............... but instead I got 'Bridget Jones's Diary: Part 2' and 'Hitch'...........hmmmm. Jen and I had got seperate flights so it was very strange when I was waiting in the hostel room to hear a knock at the door and find Jen on the otherside, all the way out here in California when the last time I saw her was a few weeks ago in Mumbles in Wales! We managed to keep ourselves awake until about 9.30/10pm by having a couple of beers ... read more

Hey All, Techincally I'm in Tokyo while writing the first part of this (or just outside of it) and I just dropped $13 on noodles and a ginger ale... good bye Vietnam discount, hello Japan! I could not bring myself to schlep into Tokyo at 7:00am after two hours of plane sleep so I've been kickin' it here at the airport. Crashed out in a day room for some horizontal sleep and am now updating the blog. I can't save pictures from here so will add those when I'm back home. On to our last two days in Hoi An. Saturday, we took a tour of My Son, a sacred place of the Champa people back in the 1st through, oh, did he say 6th? century. It's a bit like Macchu Pichu, in that it is ruins that ... read more

I then went from Vancouver directly to Seattle where I have some friends. I stayed at their place for almost a week. We explored the Seattle Space Needle, went to the EMP the Experience Music Project from Woody Allen (Best Museum I've ever been to). We saw the Flying Fish on the market and I even went to a Baseball Game, The Seattle Mariners against Baltimore Orioles. It was the game when Raffael Palmero had his 3000th Hit. They told me that was something special and I belived it... Very impressive was also the visit of the very active volcano Mt. St. Helens south of Seattle. After one week in the State of Washington I went to Portland, Oragon to visit a friend of Petra. He showed me around Portland, we did some hiking and went ... read more
