Puerto Vallarta 19 January - 18 February 2018 I have been so relaxed in PV that I totally messed up the blogs. I forgot to write about the first month because I put a few photographs of PV in the blog about Loreto and then swanned off to Morelia and became obsessed with butterflies. So that is why two blogs are coming along at once. We continued to enjoy Posada de Roger and it's eclectic mix of residents. As we were going to stay for another month after going to Morelia we decided to spend more time relaxing and go sightseeing after our return. I think I explained on our previous visit that the plumbing in Mexico is dodgy to say the least and in fact last time we resorted to carrying a plunger around with ... read more

Loreto, Baja Sur 31st December - 16th January 2018 After the traditional city resort of La Paz, the tourist madness and mayhem of Cabo San Lucas and the remote rural retreats of Mulege and San Ignacio our tour of Baja California Sur terminated in Loreto. Like La Paz, Loreto is positioned on a bay within the Sea of Cortes, protected by numerous small islands. Arriving here reminded me of Goldilocks and the three bears. Whereas La Paz and Cabo are too big for a lengthy stay, Mulege and San Ignacio too small, Loreto is perfect. Because of it's isolated situation, the couple of small neighbouring towns one in each direction on the road are at least an hour and a half away, Loreto is very peaceful but has everything necessary for comfort. However before saying more ... read more

In late January, we decided to go to Mexico for an 11 day stay. In order to be considered a true citizen of Salt Spring Island, it is required that you go to Melaque, Mx for a few weeks every winter. We stayed at the El Palmar Resort which is actually owned by someone from here and it is very focused on the tennis crowd. I considered coming out of tennis retirement and packing my racquet but resisted- Jan is planning to play every day. The first few weeks of winter have been very wet on the west coast and the weather on our day of departure was described as an "atmospheric river-" I think they were expecting 150 mm of rain on the west side of Vancouver Island. The snow depths in the interior are ... read more

My husband suffers from anxiety and PTSD. He learned about a natural substance called Ayahuasca which is found in the Amazonian rainforest. When mixed with DMT as a tea of sorts it produces hallucinations which has been proven to help with anxiety, stress and addictions. I was intrigued by this concoction and decided to join my husband in a series of experiences. And instead of traveling to South America we experienced Ayahuasca in our own space at home. The first night we drank an introductory dose. The "tea" is a thick dark brown liquid with a bitter taste reminding me of middle eastern cuisine. Our guides suggested we take the first dose alone for the purpose of total immersion without distraction. The liquid's odor made it difficult to drink without gagging but I managed to get ... read more

Monday, October 17, 2005I had never been to Mexico and had always wanted to see it. After all, our daughters had visited Cancun three times and Bob had crossed the border several times while stationed in San Antonio during his Air Force tenure. So when our new credit card company offered us a "free" trip, we said, “Why not?” It had been a horrific year: Hurricane Charley had destroyed our business and building in Pt. Charlotte. FL, we had suffered through the ignominy of negotiations with the county and the insurance company, the building was finally sold and we needed to celebrate our 27th anniversary! We could have chosen C... read more

After a long time at sea and then coming home to the snowiest winter in a decade I cannot be happier with the decision Adina and I made to spend a week at an all inclusive in Mexico. Neither of us had done the all inclusive thing before, but I'm sure it will not be our last. Travelling on your own with a backpack and no plans offers some experiences and opportunities that you'll never get any other way - but not having to pack up for a week, being waited on hand and foot, and not having to worry a single second about what things will cost was the most relaxing vacation I've had. We decided on a smaller high end resort and could not have been happier with our choice. The fact that there ... read more

Roads MEX 45 for the most part was OK a few bad spots near the entry to larger cities. Not very many topes. second toll near the exit of highway MEX 45 to Leon 190 pesos 2,3&4 Axels. Entering the Spanish city of Aguascalientes on a Sunday early afternoon watching the festivities of families and groups on the street, in court yards and Plazas with lots of Mexican music blasting. Geo: 20.6509, -105.215Our first port stop is today and we are in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Jeff and I have been here several times and we have booked a whale watching excursion. Puerto Vallarta is where Banderas Bay, the 7th largest bay in the world, is located and it is to this bay that the humpbacks in Alaska make their way south beginning in late December/early January through early April. We are at the beginning of the migration. The Bay of Banderas is the breeding and birthing grounds of humpbacks and dolphins and we're hopeful that we'll see some whales. We have a quick bite of breakfast and join our group. We board a mid-sized rubber dingy that seats maybe 20 people. Jeff and I, bringing up the rear of the group, end up sitting in the very ... read more

Geo: 20.6509, -105.215Our alarm goes off and we get right up. I phone Mary and Trish, waking Mary up. Trish has already left for Zumba class! I call Leroy and Eve and wake them up as well. Oh dear. Told them to go back to sleep. So much for that plan!Jeff and I know that today the Wheelhouse Bar will be serving a traditional British pub lunch, so we put sticky notes on everyone's cabin doors inviting them to join us at 11:30 and we head off for breakfast. Oatmeal and fruit for both of us.After breakfast we go to the Princess Theater for the 'Enrichment Lecture' by Dr. Samuel Glassner. His lecture was on "The First European Doctors" and it was fascinating!! The impact of 'healing' and illnesses on politics, agriculture and especially religion was ... read more

Geo: 20.6509, -105.215Ahhhh...our first full day on the cruise and it is a sea day - wonderful! We wake up late and go to the Horizon Court buffet for breakfast. Jeff had what he calls a 'normal person's breakfast' which was eggs, bacon and toast, coffee and cranberry juice. I have oatmeal, fresh fruit, coffee and cranberry juice. After breakfast we start our usual " OMG, we're on a cruise ship and need to pay attention to our caloric intake and expenditure" and we walk around the Promenade deck for about 4 to 5 miles. We're bummed out that both the very front and the very back of the ship have been cordoned off so instead of walking the entire circumference of the ship where 3.2 laps equals a mile, we have to cut across the boat ... read more
