My Very First Blog Entry Today the first real day for David. We both attended the USD - ITESO orientation. This year there are 238 studnets particpating in the program. David has a total of 25 students between the two classes (Comparative and Mexican Politics). The ITESO campus is absolutely incredible. There is an incredibile amount of trees on the campus and so it is noticably cooler because of all of the shade that surrounds the building. David and I found our own little apartment. So we are so excited because it is nearly half the cost of the hotel options. Moreover, it has its own beautiful patio and is off a quiet street. It's also two blocks from the Centro Magno - where you can see movies for $5 per person and get large ... read more

In March of 2005 some of my best friends got married after having been together for nearly 8 years. They decided to have the wedding in Puerto Vallarta to make it an event to remember for everyone. Initially they figured the cost and distance would make it difficult for people so they thought that it would be just the closest of family. To their surprise nearly 125 people made the trek for the event. I left Minneapolis with Mike and Haley ( the lucky couple) on March 5th - two days before my birthday. I spent the first 2-3 days in Haleys parents condo in Nuevo Vallarta. After everyone arrived we all moved to a villa in Bucerias (approx 20mi NW of Puerto Vallarta) where the wedding was held on the beach and stayed there for ... read more

We left Puerto Vallarta in a chartered Cessna Caravan to go to Socorro Island, part of the Islas Revillagigedo, about 400 km west of the Mexican coast. Socorro is known as a diving destination, and has an amazing variety of life in the ocean, but the island itself is occupied only by a small Mexican Navy base on the South East corner. High winds, rain, salt water and poor roads make it a tough environment for equipment and people. Sheep have damaged some of the indigenous life, but the island is still home to the Socorro mockingbird; there are so many crabs that in some places you cannot help but step on them. After dark they come out on the roads - arms raised ready to fight the jeep. There is even a nocturnal local bird ... read more

During my first job out of college, my company took us on an all expense paid release celebration to a resort in Puerto Vallarta. It is my first time in a resort, and my first time to Mexico... if you consider the areas around the resort to be Mexico! For one, it certainly wasn't much of a cultural experience since we stayed in the pool and hottub day in and out sipping margaritas. But it was a trip to remember! All 7 days of it that is. ... read more
