Q: What has Kristina been doing? A:What HASN'T Kristina been doing! Last Sunday (Feb 25) , I met a friend from school at the Rodeo stadium, and we went to the National Championship of the Mexican Rodeo! We went on the final day so we saw the final 3 teams compete for 1st Prize. Actually, first let me explain how this all works : The Charreada is the national sport of Mexico. A charro is a Mexican cowboy, complete with sombrero chaps, a nice scarfy-tie, and of course some good solid boots. In the final there were 3 teams of about 6 or 7 charros that completed a series of events, gaining points for their team, to be totaled at the end to see who wins! Apparently Jalisco (the state where I live) has the most ... read more

Today we were in Puerta Vallarta. It was a pretty great day. But it started out pretty slowly....last night we had our second show of the cruise called Band on The Run. It's a really fun show filled with songs like We Will Rock You, Lady Marmalade, and Boogie Nights. It is a really tiring show but its such a good time. Well anyways, we finished and afterwards we do a meet and greet....we get a free drink from the cruise director for doing meet and greet....well that turned into too many drinks and it was a late night. And this morning we had our weekly boat drill which is all of the crew practicing emercency procedures and abandon ship, etc. That was a fun wake up! So afterwards we got of the ship and took ... read more

What an awesome day! The morning seemed to be starting very badly but the day was certainly redeemed. We purchased tickets to go on an ATV ride/village tour outside of Puerto Vallarta. The problem lies in the setting of clocks. Long story short, our time keeping device for the trip (my cell phone since neither of us wear watches) ended up an hour behind. We stepped off the ship onto the dock thinking it was 8:50 when it was actually 9:50! We missed our group!! We were in luck. There were two ATV groups for the day. One was scheduled for 9:30 in the morning while the second was scheduled for 1:30 in the afternoon. A representative from the tour company was on the docks and said that they would let us join the 1:30 group ... read more

So last blog entry I was still going about all the food in Mexico especially at this fair! It really was incredible, but of course I loved every part of it. I even think I enjoyed looking at all the food stalls more than seeing the dolphins jumping out of the water. We spent the whole day at the fair and met up with some class mates there, which was great, I then had company on all the amusement rides. However I think I may have out rode the other two girls, I made them come on this crazy ride and the faces they were pulling whilst on the ride were hilarious. A mixture of sending me daggers and turning green and all I could do was laugh, but I swear that was all because of ... read more

Hey everyone! I hope the new year is going fabulously. Mine is pretty decent. I'm still not going to school, not until February 6th (yah, I know, right? haha). I was kind of in a slump of not doing things, but I'm out of that now, haha :) I changed houses a little while ago, about 2 weeks ago. I like my new family. I have a host sister and 2 brothers (only one of which lives at home) . Actually!! One of my 'brothers' just had a baby!!!! TODAY! Valentina !! so that's super cool. The first baby !! They are all nice. I like the new house, I have my own room, with a big double bed again, and my own bathroom! Coolio, haha! And now that I have a funky new LAPTOP (*thank ... read more

Today was THE most amazing day ever! Today was Puerto Vallarta. We started by taking a rhib to another part of Puerto Vallarta. The boat seemed so fragile - and really was, no shoes allowed. As the boat cruised across the water, we all held for dear life. They man operating the boat kept shuffling us around so that there was enough weight in the front of the boat to prevent it from flipping up at high speeds. I somehow ended up all the way forward holding on to the air filled walls of the boat for dear life. And this was only the warm up! Once on dry land our group boarded a small "bus." By bus I mean to describe a pick up truck circa 1955 with rails along the bed for us to ... read more

So remember in the early 90´s when all our parents hated our music (and in retrospect for a good reason) well they sure seem to be loving it here. Craig and myself wandered the streets all night popping into random bars and all we found were mid lifers dancing to the likes of coolio and vannila ice and waitresses blowing wistles in your ear , not to say that we didn´t embrace the evening and have a good time eating amazing street food on the walk back to our welcoming hostel beds. I went back to Vallarta on the 30th, with my friend Jozefien from Belgium, and we stayed at my friend Olivia's house. We went to the beach on the 31st.. just so we'd be nice and relaxed so we could stay out all night.. haha We started off with dinner at Olivia's house... With her dad, mom, and some of her mom's friends. Her dad is a really good cook (he's from Sweden, so we had a swedish-mexican meal. SO good.) and we finished it off with DELICOUS chocolate cake, yum yum. haha. There was also a guitar man that Gilda (say it Hilda... remember, your in mexico and G sounds like H) hired. When you're eating fabulous food, on the balcony, under the stars, with candles, and guitar/piano music.... basically you just realize that you ... read more

NEW YEAR! AH! This one{s going to be good, I swear... It certainly started off right ;) The party was lots of fun, everyone got super drunk really quickly, there are a lot of US frat boy types here. Some people played with sparklers on the roof and I took pictures. Then I stayed here and spent some quality time with Wendy, and we went up to the roof to watch the fireworks on the beach at midnite. It was pretty much my favorite new years. But now it{s time to begin the long trip home. All day today on a bus to Guadalajara. All day tomorrow packing up and readying myself for customs and so forth. Ugh. Saying some goodbyes I guess. :( Oh how this trip has changed my life.... read more

On our way home yesterday, I forgot to mention, we stopped at the Buddha Lounge, for a bebida and also for dinner, though... it turned out to be upscale USA pricing, so we didn{t stay for dinner. Instead, we went to this place around the corner called Redneck something and it was like... Mexican run but USA themed, but Mexican colored, Mexican priced, with USA food. It was kinda odd and not populated enough for me to be totally comfortable there. Anyway, the price was right... so Wendy ordered the Sausage Happy Special Dinner (or something along those lines), Matheu ordered BBQ rib dinner, and I got Filet Mignon dinner, medium. About the same time our ($7 a plate!) meals arrived, a local cover band came on and started off the night with Come As You ... read more
