So, I made it safely to Puerto Vallarta. Wendy and I rode took a cab with Nori and Danny, who were traveling to Mexico City to retrieve Dannys car and Noris passport and visa, both of which were stolen on a subsequent Tequila tour and found by the Mexican Police in Mexico City that night. The bus ride was about 6 hours and we took Primera Plus. I had bought a headphone splitter (7 pesos) and headphones (90 pesos) the day before, so we could listen to music on her MP3 player. The mexican countryside was gorgeous, once we finally escaped Guadalajara traffic. This country isn{t built for highways. Anyway, amazing. Mountains, beautiful weather, agave plantations, little towns here and there... The last couple hours of the drive it was raining, as it apparently does every ... read more

We flew into Puerto Vallarta and drove 45 minutes north to Sayulita, a charming fishing village. We are staying at VILLA AMOR, a small boutique hotel with very reasonable prices and fabulous restaurant. The hotel is located on the bay and it's just a short walk to the beaches. The more popular beach has surfing, snorkeling, restaurants, also beach chairs and umbrellas for rent. We chose to go to the La Playa de la Muerta, which is the beach by the cemetary. You walk through the cemetary and come to a gorgeous desolate beach. We purchased beach mats in town and hung out here. Great bird watching area, pelicans, egrets, herons. We didn't do anything and that was our goal. Great time and we will return.... read more

Hi everyone! (as either cheers or sighs ring out around the world at the news that Kristina didn't fall off the side of a cliff to be lost forever) I realize that I haven't written a blog in a hundred years (that's accurate, if you round up),but here we go to make up for it, random jotted notes: So a few weeks ago, I had a district breakfast, where all the exchange students were introduced to all the Rotary Members that had chosen to come. We all wore our fancy jackets that are quickly filling up. My favorite thing about mine is the glittery Virgin of Guadalupe patch I bought and sewed to the back. After the breakfast, we went to the house of one of the students for lunch, cascarita- casual soccer, and hang out ... read more

Disclaimer: On this trip I will probably be drunk alot so I apologize now if my rantings make no sense sometimes. I think the last entry was one of them. Also sorry if I dont reply to your comments the internets arent usely free. So we made it after a very queasy 4 hour bus ride from Tala to Puerto Vallarta. Once we got here Davy and I still had to take another bus for about an hour which gave us a tour of the real puerto vallarta and its not anything like the post cards. When we finally got to the hostel there was no one here but one other girl. So ofcourse we headed into town and Davy decided to splurge a bit. Fact: no where in Mexico do the menus include chips and ... read more

So I have come out on the other side of my first thanksgiving meal without the family, and I managed to survive with only a few minor burns and scratchs! So heres the story of my first thanksgiving: Lupita and I went food shopping (after scouting out the stores for where to get everything), and that only took us about 4 hours. And I am not even kidding. As it is clearly not thanksgiving here, and American thanksgiving isnt until November, the stores didnt have the best selection of turkey. So turns out all they had was smoked turkey, which eventually turned out fine, but let me tell you... oie. We (Lupita, Eduardo and I), so we called their grandson who is a chef, and it actually turns out that the kind we got, you only ... read more

This is just an update to say I have added pictures to two previous blogs, so that makes just about ALL the blogs with pictures. If you just scroll down on the original page when you opened THIS blog, you can see which blogs have pictures, that maybe you didn't see. And by the way, got the results of some of my tests back, and turns out, I'm NOT going to fail, at least not this term! i have a solid 10/10 in history, snaps for me! 9/10 in Biology, got 7.5/10 on the math test... the others aren't as good, so won't be bragging about them here. haha. But I didn't fail the subject I actually like, and thats all that matters right? The teachers I like like me too now, so we're all good. ... read more

Where did I leave off: The two school days I spent at Gaby's school went well. It was definatly nice to being something that might even appear to be useful (I did hand out dry pasta and glue after all). Friday night was a really fun night ! I went out with some of the other students from GDL, and we all went to this birthday party for a friend of a past exchange student. Yah, that was kind of complicated, but the jist of it is, went to a party. The way Mexico does parties (if the birthday person is priviliged enough) is in a very big way. They rent out party spaces and set up a big tent with tables and chairs, and a dj and usually either live mariachi or banda music. This ... read more

Now I know that one should not waste his time too much hazey eyed, flying in circles, creating mayhem and feeling sorry for oneself each and every morning. But sometimes you just have to and if so there is no better place to do it than Puerto Vallarta! It took me awhile to understand the implications of having an open bar at my disposal, but after a quick lesson we were well on our way. The photos probably describe better than I can, but it was a blast and we were to meet some fantastic people along the way! After a long trip on the busline, fighting with the guards to let me take my luggage on board (would have been heaps easier if I actually knew how to speak Spanish - but oh well!) a ... read more

Just got back from my very first Rotary Youth Exchange Conference! (Campemento Mazatlan to be exact... I have a t-shirt to prove it) It was definatly a good time... Ever get to suntan at a conference? ... yah.. I don't know what I did to get to live this kind of life, ha ha. So I was in GDL the whole week before the conference, which means I missed the whole week of school. missing a whole week of school that you don't understnad = coming back and everything being exactly the same. haha. I have to figure out what I missed. I can hardly figure out what I didn't miss, but did in class! Ah well. I will do it. (duh duh duh daaaa.. super k.) So Friday I left on the bus with ... read more
